Anne mum on Derek-Cristine breakup

MANILA – Anne Curtis refused to comment on the breakup of Cristine Reyes and Derek Ramsay, her co-stars in the blockbuster movie “No Other Woman.” Reyes and Ramsay became a couple on August 28 and have called it quits after just a little over a month. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, Curtis said she is in no position to comment because she does not know the whole story behind the their relationship. “First off, I don’t know the story. Wala din akong maco-comment. But maybe we should just respect whatever they’re going through,” she said. Asked if she was saddened by the news, Curtis briefly replied: “Any breakup is always sad for someone, especially if you know them both.” According to the “It’s Showtime” host, she doesn’t get to talk to the two regularly. In a report published on philstar.com last week, Ramsay was quoted as saying that Reyes is his “friend for life.” “Shortest [because] it’s a month. Longest, because I have a friend for life. And I’m gonna be her friend for life,” he said. While he refused to give details about his breakup with Reyes, Ramsay said, “It’s just a decision that was made.” “Ito lang ang sasabihin ko: walang may kasalanan, walang may mali, walang masama,” he said as rumors of a third party behind the breakup continue to surface.

Anne Curtis: ‘Jasmine deserves to make a name for herself’

092813-Anne_Main.jpg

Budding actress Jasmine Curtis is slowly stepping out of the shadow of her older sister, and Anne Curtis couldn’t be any happier about it. According to Anne, during an interview for her upcoming E! News Asia Special held at The HyvE on September 25, her younger sister “deserves in her own right to make a name for herself.” Just last month, Jasmine bagged the Best Supporting Actress award in the New Breed category in this year’s Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for her film Transit. After that, she headlined in Puti, the Mike Alcazaren-helmed indie which became one of the films included in the first CineFilipino Film Festival. Anne noted that for Jasmine to be recognized for her first-ever film right away was an “amazing achievement” already. What rather lent a more “legit” feel to her feat, Anne says, was the fact that it came from no less than the highly-acclaimed local award-giving body, Cinemalaya. “I’m so proud of her that she keeps on striving to do her best,” Anne happily blurted out. Just when Anne thought that she couldn’t be any more proud than she already is about her baby sister, a week ago, the Paul Soriano-produced Transit was chosen to be the Philippine bet for the Foreign Language Film category of the 86th Academy Awards. “The mere fact that it’s going to be the Philippine bet for the Oscars, I think that’s really major so all we have to do is pray na sana ma-nominate. Sana talaga,” the It’s Showtime host told the press. It seems that sibling rivalry is really nonexistent in the AnneBisyosa star’s dictionary as she explained that she has always wanted her younger to not be tagged as her younger sister alone. With the recent happenings in Jasmine’s career, it appears that Anne might just get her wish a little sooner. Anne said she is also proud that her baby sister is thriving in an industry that she herself has admittedly yet to explore. “… Teritoryo yan na hindi ko pa natatapakan eh, ‘yung indie scene. Parang na-miss out ko ‘yung chance ko na ‘yun. Pero si Jasmine, she’s excelling so much in that industry and it makes me so proud,” the 28-year-old star noted. Speaking of independent films, a lot of mainstream stars were able to successfully cross into the indie scene, has she no plans to follow suit? “Well I guess it’s really about the right script, ‘di ba? Kung ano ‘yung dadating.Kung dadating eh ‘di sige, kung bagay naman at kung kaya ko naman, why not ‘di ba? Pero so far mukhang nakatali pa rin ako sa mainstream movies,” the star said. Apart from her noontime show, Anne is currently busy working with her reunion film with Sam Milby titled The Gifted. While she still cannot divulge much details about hew new film, Anne gave a little teaser and said that the Chris Martinez-helmed flick is under the “dark comedy” genre. Since dark comedy is generally a film that not too many Filipinos are familiar with, Anne offered a little explanation: “May slapstick comedy kasi eh I would say ‘yun ‘yung very movie ko with Ms. Ai Ai [delas Alas] ‘yung Ang Cute ng Ina Mo. Eto, serious siya pero nakakatawa siya, ‘yung hindi mo maintindihan kung nakakatawa siya kasi serious ‘yung tao eh. Pero nakakatawa kasi ‘yung eksena mismo.” Considering that her last two films namely: A Secret Affair and No Other Woman and her last soap Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw were all heavy dramas, Anne described her current project as “a breath of fresh air.” Since it’s a new thing for her, Anne confessed that she’s making every effort to prepare and be able to deliver on this film. “Super basa ng script tapos inaaral ko. Tapos ‘yung character kasi is medyo smart na iba. So pinag-aaralan ko talaga. I have to do my best especially with Direk Chris Martinez,” quipped the first Pinay to get an autobiographical feature on E! News Asia.

Jasmine no longer just Anne Curtis' baby sister

MANILA – Anne Curtis is extremely proud of her younger sister Jasmine, who is now making a name for herself outside of the shadow of the "It's Showtime" host. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, Anne said Jasmine’s early achievements are noteworthy because it reflects her potential as an actress. Jasmine recently won her first acting award at the Cinemalaya Film Festival for her performance in the movie “Transit.” “I don’t think any ate would ever want her younger sister to be known just as the sister. It makes me so proud, especially 'yung ginagawa ni Jasmine, teritoryo iyan na hindi ko pa natapakan. Parang na-miss out 'yung chance na 'yun pero si Jasmine talagang she’s excelling so much in that industry and it makes me so proud,” she said. Saying her younger sister deserves to build her own name in the entertainment industry, Anne vowed to always be there for Jasmine in all her endeavors. Meanwhile, Anne is likewise praying that her sister’s first independent film will be the official Philippine nominee in the upcoming 86th Academy Awards. “That’s an amazing achievement. I’m so proud of her and I hope na she keeps on striving for the best. The mere fact that it’s going to be the Philippines’ bet for the Oscars, I think that’s really major so all we have to do is pray na sana ma-nominate,” she said. Shot in Herzliya, Israel, "Transit" tells the story of Moises (Ping Medina) and Janet (Irma Adlawan), two overseas Filipinos who are forced to hide their respective children (Marc Justine Alvarez and Jasmine) after learning of the government's plan to deport children of foreign workers. The 86th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. ‘She’s my role model’ While the 25-year-old actress speaks highly of her younger sister, Jasmine, for her part, does not hide just how much she idolizes Anne. In an interview with Hola magazine in its premiere issue, Jasmine said she and Anne have really developed a close relationship, which was also brought about by their similar interests. “As I got older and got to know more about her industry, I understood her more. And that’s when we started to create a bond as sisters. We are making up for lost time now. There was never really anything to fight about because she always treated me like a baby. She was always very motherly,” she told the magazine. Jasmine said it is only recently when her older sister realized that she’s already 19 and she should let her do things by herself. “She has to let go of that image of me as her baby sister and think of me more as a friend. I think it’s because we didn’t get to spend so much time together when we were younger so she doesn’t want us to break apart so easily. And I totally understand it. She’s over-protective but she knows when she goes too far. She steps back every now and then and lets me handle situations,” Jasmine said. Saying she looks up to Anne in many aspects, Jasmine said: “I want to achieve all the great things she’s done. She’s my idol in this world. But of course I would love to surpass what my sister’s done one day. If not come close to it, at least, and feel the same way she’s feeling now.”

Anne Curtis proud of sister Jasmine

MANILA - Kapamilya star Anne Curtis expressed her happiness over the latest achievement of her sister, actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith. Jasmine is part of the film "Transit," which is now the country's official entry to the 68th Academy Awards. "Congrats to the whole team behind Transit!!! Praying with you that the film gets nominated! Represent!…," Curtis tweeted. In an interview with "Mornings@ANC" on Thursday, Jasmine said that she still can't believe that her first film, “Transit,” will be the country's entry to the Oscars. “I was actually in school, I just went to the library, I was on my laptop doing a bit of social networking and then our film editor tweeted that Transit is the Philippines’ entry to the Oscars. I replied saying ‘Hahaha what a joke, muntikan na ako ma-heart attack.’ And then someone retweeted from an article from an actual newspaper here and it just made everything legit. I started panicking, I was crying. I called my manager. I had to leave the library so I can express my joy,” she said. Shot in Herzliya, Israel, "Transit" tells the story of Moises (Ping Medina) and Janet (Irma Adlawan), two overseas Filipinos who are forced to hide their respective children (Marc Justine Alvarez and Curtis-Smith) after learning of the government's plan to deport children of foreign workers. Paul Soriano, the producer of the fim and its director said they are gearing up for a strategic campaign to boost the film's chances of earning an official nomination. The October 1 deadline for film submissions will be followed by the Academy's release of a list of eligible entries later that month. This will be trimmed down to nine finalists in January, with the final five nominees announced in the same month. The 86th Academy Awards ceremony will follow on March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Anne's reunion movie with Sam gets Erwan's OK

MANILA – Anne Curtis said she is already looking forward to start filming her upcoming movie with former boyfriend, actor Sam Milby. The two were last seen in the movie “Babe, I Love You,” which was released more than three years ago. The two stars also worked together on the TV shows "Dyosa" and "Maging Sino Ka Man." In a live interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Curtis said she misses working with Milby, adding that they have maintained their friendship even after they broke up. “He’s always masarap kakuwentuhan. Ma-chika iyon eh. I’m looking forward to shooting my new film with him and, of course, with Cristine Reyes,” she said. Titled “The Gifted,” Curtis said working on the movie will surely be fun because she, Milby and Reyes have a lot to catch up on. Asked if she and Milby still feel awkward because of their past relationship, Curtis said: “We were together kanina lang sa ‘ASAP.’ Wala talagang ilangan. We are friends.” Curtis said even her current boyfriend, food blogger Erwan Heussaff, is fully supportive of her reunion project with Milby. “I think he knows naman that he can be confident about how I feel for him. He doesn’t really interfere with my work because he knows how much I love my craft,” she said. “Of course, hindi maiiwasan na he might be awkward when he’s watching it but he’ll still watch it,” she added. Meanwhile, aside from her forthcoming film, Curtis said she will also launch her second solo album soon. “Wala naman akong genre pagdating sa pagkanta, so puwedeng ballad, rap, hip hop. Wala siyang genre, kasing baliw ko lang ang magiging album ko,” she said. The “It’s Showtime” host launched her debut album in 2011. At the time, Curtis said she does not mind if people say she is "trying too hard" when it comes to singing. "I don't really mind kung lalaitin ang voice ko or whatever kasi it's part of it naman. Hindi din naman ako nagsasabi na singer ako o diva ako kasi alam naman natin lahat na hindi totoo," she said.

Anne Curtis feels validated by her first international exclusive feature

083113-anne_main.jpg

Anne Curtis has been dominating the social media scene as the first Filipina to ever reach five million followers on Twitter and one million on Instagram, putting her in the ranks of international stars such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, among others. Anne adds yet another first on her growing list. This time, as the first Filipina to have an E! News Asia Special. The Asian franchise of the popular American entertainment news channel has chosen to dedicate an entire special on the multi-faceted actress, singer, and television host which they announced during an event at the Buddha Bar on August 29. The Its’ Showtime host who was present at the event shared with Push.com.ph and other members of the press that being chosen as the first Filipino celebrity to be featured on the show serves as an affirmation of all the hard work that she has put into her slow climb to success. “It gives you that sense of achievement of the 16 years that you’ve been striving to reach or make a name for yourself,” the AnneBisyosa performer started. What started as dreams of having her own show, her own billboard, and eventually her own trophy all began materializing right in front of her according to Anne. “You get floored and then you just can be thankful and this [the special] happening now it really gives you that sense of achievement that I didn’t make a mistake when I told my Dad I want to stay here in the Philippines [because] I want to pursue what I’m doing,” she enthused while adding that she now knows that she made a right decision 16 years ago. This special, according to Anne, is also her first-ever international exclusive feature, which makes the entire experience even more memorable. To get an in-depth look into her life as a private person and as a showbiz personality, Anne said the crew dug deeper to her past experiences and asked tough yet refreshing questions. Meanwhile, to add dimension to her entire persona, the show’s crew also spoke with some of her loved ones and closest friends. But even if she’s thrilled about the feature since she’s yet to see the output, Anne didn’t mask her nervousness over what her loved ones could have said about her, especially her best friend, Minute to Win it host Luis Manzano. The 28-year-old actress said she believes that if there’s one person who would most likely add color to the entire feature by dishing out the juiciest details about her it would definitely be him because “he knows the good and bad side of me… and he’s someone who knows me for who I really am.” The show’s crew, Anne shared, practically tailed her around town as she fulfilled engagements. One of the many events that Anne graced which they were able to cover was the garage sale that she organized recently together with co-host Vice Ganda. Through that particular event the Fil-Australian said she hopes that she was able to embody the Filipino spirit to whoever would be the viewers of her feature. “How we’re all smiling even if we’re tired, how we keep on going. That’s something that I think we’re able to feature when they were following me around,” said Anne. Asked which part of the feature was she most proud of, Anne quickly responded that it would have to be segment about It’s Showtime because “It’s us sharing what other countries might not have which is having a noontime variety show. Not a lot of people understand that. My dad doesn’t understand that when we first came here, but it’s part of our culture that would be something I would be proud to share across Asia.” Get an in-depth look into Anne’s exciting life, struggles and rise to fame on E! News Special: Anne Curtis, premiering on September 29 at 7:30 p.m. (Skycable Channel 57, Cignal Channel 25, and Cablelink Channel 33).

MTRCB asks ‘Asap’ reps to undergo gender-sensitivity seminar

MANILA, Philippines—Representatives of “Asap 18,” ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime variety show, attended a gender sensitivity inquiry on Tuesday, MTRCB chair Eugenio Villareal told the INQUIRER. MTRCB stands for Movie Television Ratings and Classification Board. “The meeting went smoothly,” Villareal said. He added the board asked the network to present a written procedure for wardrobe (no later than March 11), the appointment of gender sensitivity point person (aside from a decorum officer) and for “Asap” representatives to undergo a gender-sensitivity seminar. The inquiry stemmed from the February 24 episode of “Asap 18,” which featured actress Anne Curtis wearing a “provocative” gown in a wet-look production number. Laurenti Dyogi, head of TV programming led the ABS-CBN representatives while MTRCB board member Noel del Prado chaired the ad-hoc committee.
