Claudine insists she is not an 'unfit' mother

MANILA – Embattled actress Claudine Barretto wants to prove that she is not the kind of mother her estranged husband, actor Raymart Santiago, describes her to be. “I am not the unfit mother they try to picture me," Barretto said in an exclusive interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Dolly Ann Carvajal. "The reality is that my children are thriving under my care. Sabina, my older child, is a straight A student; Santino has an average of 94.7. They are healthy, happy and well-adjusted in spite of everything,” she said, adding that she also tries to be involved in their school work and participate in their school activities, as well as the parents’ associations. Given the many controversies she is facing, Barretto admitted she couldn’t help but feel sad about what has happened in the past months. “I still feel bad when I think about the things that happened during the past few months, but I believe I have learned to adjust and just be philosophical about things, knowing that these too shall pass and, as they say, after the rain comes sunshine,” she said. “I want to tell my future self that all of these emotional scars that I bear now tell their own stories. I want to tell myself in the future that I have gone through the worst and I survived,” she added. According to the actress, she finds it hard to keep up with the image that the media, her fans and the public in general, have of her. “While I have played many roles, the underlying character of most of my characters has been that of a headstrong, determined woman under a veneer of fragility and vulnerability who perfectly handles any situation. But in real life, of course, I am far from perfect; I have made mistakes and I cannot always be the kind of idealized person I play in my movies,” she said. Speaking on the rift between her and siblings Gretchen and Marjorie, the younger Barretto said she feels "sad" and "hurt." “Actually, I am both sad and hurt because members of my family have decided to take sides on this issue. I have always valued my family above all else in life. Not being able to be with my brothers and sisters—and, worse, having them against me—makes me sad because most of us grew up so close,” she said. Despite this, Barretto said she is trying her best to live a normal life for her parents, her kids and her fans. “First of all, my kids, I have to be strong for them, to fight for their rights and to secure their future. I also have my faith to turn to, and being a Christian who follows the Bible, I draw strength from the story of Job, who weathered the storms of life to reach better days. And there are, of course, my fans, who never believed the lies about me and who continue to stand by me,” she said. Asked what she would do differently in the past if given the chance, Barretto said: “I probably would have been more careful in my personal decisions. I would have applied the lesson that it is never wise to decide when you are hurt, confused or suffering from emotional turmoil.”

Claudine calls Gretchen 'baliw, adik'

MANILA -- "Nababaliw na yata siya." This was how Claudine Barretto dismissed questions about her estranged sister, Gretchen, who she believes is behind the theft charges filed against her by her former personal assistant. On Thursday morning, Claudine filed her counter-affidavit answering the complaint before the Marikina Regional Trial Court, where several cases related to her marital spat with actor Raymart Santiago are also being heard. This latest legal complaint to beset the 34-year-old actress was filed on September 11 by Dessa Cadelario Patilan, who was imprisoned in May following Claudine's own accusations of theft. At the time, the former TV star alleged Patilan stole a watch and jewelry amounting to over P10 million. In Patilan's countercharge against Claudine, she claimed damages amounting to over P100,000. These include the items supposedly stolen by Claudine -- a wallet, an electronic tablet, a memory card and a sim card. Gretchen involved? On Thursday, Claudine's legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, raised several points questioning the motive of Patilan's filing of the theft complaint. He emphasized that it was formalized four months after the same May incident cited by both camps in their respective sworn statements. Topacio also stressed the fact that Patilan is being represented by Atty. Alma Mallonga, who he accused of conspiring with Claudine's sister Gretchen. "Alam naman natin ang istorya dito, 'di ba?" he began. "Sinasagot lang naman namin [ang mga akusasyon ni Patilan]," Topacio said. "Wala naman kasi talagang katotohanan eh. Kasi kung totoo 'yan, bakit ngayon lang? At saka bakit kung noong nabigyan lang siya ng abogado ni Gretchen, saka lang siya nag-file ng countercharge?" Referring to a published interview last month, Topacio continued, "Inamin naman ni Atty. Mallonga eh. Hindi naman kami nagsabi noon eh, hindi naman haka-haka 'yun eh. Inamin naman nila, 'diba. Nagpa-interview sila. Sinabi niya na si Gretchen ang kumausap sa kanya para ibigay siya bilang abugado ni Dessa. And then after that, nag-file na ng countercharge. So alam na natin 'yon." Topacio was referring to Mallonga's statements in a report published on the TV5 news website Interaksyon. The report quoted Mallonga as saying: "Yes, it is true Gretchen is a client and a good friend. This matter concerning Dessa was brought to my attention, my personal capacity really, by Gretchen." The lawyer stressed, however, that she did not get any specific instructions from Gretchen concerning the case, and that the older Barretto had only endorsed Patilan to her out of concern. 'Magsama sila sa kulungan' Shortly before filing her counter-affidavit on Thursday, Claudine was asked by reporters whether she is ready to face Patilan's allegations. "Magsama na lang sila ni Gretchen sa kulungan," she shot back. Asked whether she is convinced that Gretchen is out to ruin her by endorsing the case, "Syempre malungkot, syempre nakakaawa. Nakakalungkot kasi ginagamit siya (Patilan) ng kapatid ko." Claudine added she would be willing to drop any legal spat with Patilan if she apologizes. "Oo naman, iyon lang naman ang hinahantay ko [na humingi siya ng tawad]," the actress said. 'Sino'ng adik?' The "Mula sa Puso" star was brief words when asked on her other pending legal case, specifically on the subject of her siblings' testimonies backing her husband's allegations against her. In Santiago's counter-affidavit responding to Claudine's allegations of "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse, Gretchen and two other Barretto siblings, JJ and Marjorie, alleged their youngest sister is mentally ill and has a history of drug abuse. Gretchen, in a subsequent published statement, went on to detail this alleged illness and use of illegal drugs, and how their family supposedly conspired to have Claudine hospitalized for treatment. Referring to her sister's statement, Claudine said, "Hindi ko alam. Hindi ako nakikinig sa mga sinasabi nila. Hindi ko alam kung sino ang adik sa amin talaga."

Raymart dares Claudine: Take NBI drug test

MANILA -- Raymart Santiago has taken up a dare to undergo a drug test but on the condition that his estranged wife Claudine Barretto will agree to a random blood test under the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The 40-year-old actor, in a statement given to ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, addressed Barretto's latest accusations in relation to their controversial legal spat involving allegations of domestic violence and drug abuse. Santiago's legal counsel, Atty. Ruth Castello, said her client is "willing to take the challenge of drug-testing anytime of day and night [because] he has nothing to hide." In a press conference held Tuesday, Barretto denied her husband's allegations of drug abuse, which he chronicled in photos and videos in his counter-affidavit filed before the Marikina Regional Trial Court last September 24. Accompanied by her father, Miguel, Barretto showed the results of six drug tests she said she had undergone in recent weeks, with the latest being last Sunday, September 30. She went on to challenge Santiago to undergo the same tests. This latest exchange of accusations is in relation to cases the 34-year-old actress had lodged against her husband. Barretto is seeking to make permanent a temporary protection order (TPO) against Santiago, which stems from the alleged "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse she had suffered from her husband. The "Mula sa Puso" actress detailed these abuses, which she said dates back to 2002, in a case filed late August against Santiago for his alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004. Santiago and Barretto were married in a Church wedding in March 2006. They have two children -- an adopted daughter, Sabina, 9; and a biological son, Santino, 6. On Wednesday, Barretto said Santiago has been wanting to end their marriage so he would have full control of her money, noting they never had a pre-nuptial agreement. Addressing this, Castello said in the statement released Wednesday: "Money is not the cause of Raymart and Claudine's marital break-up. It is the lack of peace and harmony between them and in their household that it was no longer healthy." Claudine's 'trauma' Santiago's camp also responded to Barretto's recollection of an alleged incident in 2010, which she said traumatized her. The actress, during the press conference on Tuesday, hit her husband's supposed absence during the "terrible" episode. "Meron silang ginawa noong 2010 that really traumatized me, and walang ginawa si Raymart para protekhan kami ng mga anak ko. Instead ginamit niya pa 'yun para takutin kami... 'Yung nangyari sa 'kin was terrible, horror talaga. I would not wish it to happen to anybody," she said. Acknowledging the supposed incident, Santiago said on Wednesday, "Wala ako doon. Si Gretchen at Marjorie (Barretto's estranged sisters) ang tumakbo sa bahay para tulungan si Claudine dahil nasa taping ako. Kinwento na lang nila sa akin ang nangyari." Both Barretto and Santiago have yet to divulge the details of the alleged incident. The actor also denied Barretto's accusations that he had used illegal means to record the photos and videos he included in his counter-affidavit. "Sana tumigil na sila nang kakakalabas nang hindi totoo," Santiago added. "Marami pa akong matinding ebidensya na pwedeng ilabas ngayon, pero hayaan na lang natin si judge ang makakita nito. Huwag na sa public." "Napilitan ako maglabas ng ebidensya sa media para ipangtanggol ang pangalan ko. Masyado niya akong sinisira kaya nagsabi lang ako ng totoo. Ngayon alam na nila kahit papano, pwede na ako tumahimik," he said. -- with a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News

Marjorie hits back at Claudine

MANILA -- Actress Marjorie Barretto lashed out at youngest sister Claudine Barretto, after the actress' controversial remarks that she no longer considers her sisters as part of the family and it would be better if they change their last name. "Hurtful! You are the youngest in this family but you treat us all so disrespectfully. From the eldest to the youngest you have never respected us. Enough is enough. I have kept my peace all these time. But this is too much. You have hurt me enough to last a lifetime. You can fool the world and make them believe that we are bad sisters. But you little girl... You cannot fool God. In time... We will be vindicated," Marjorie said via her official Instagram account. Marjorie said she will not change her last name. "Little girl... who gave you the right to dictate to us... To Me "PALITAN NA RIN NILA ANG APELYIDO NILA" I am a BARRETTO! I am legally allowed to use Barretto. You are the one that is a Santiago now. I was a Barretto even before you were born. You ARE NOT the head of this family. I don't take orders from you Little girl. I will not take orders from you," Marjorie added. The actress stressed that she is tired of her youngest sister's blackmail tactics and she will no longer allow Claudine to hurt or harm her again. "I am removing all power you have on me to hurt me.. I'm tired of your blackmails. You have caused me many many sleepless nights and I have cried too many tears for you. You Little girl... You can not hurt or harm me again. Never again. This is the last time I will cry over you," says Marjorie who added, "God is watching." On Tuesday, in a press conference, Claudine denied accusations made by her estranged husband Raymart Santiago that she is using illegal drugs. She also refused to comment when asked about Marjorie and Gretchen's involvement in Santiago's sworn statement. "No comment, hindi ko sila pamilya. Like I said hindi ko sila pamilya at sana palitan na din nila ang apelyido nila," Claudine said. In the press conference, Barretto family patriarch, Miguel Barretto said his daughters Marjorie and Gretchen can change their surname if they want. Mr. Barretto also challenged Gretchen and Marjorie to drop the Barretto surname if they truly feel ashamed to be part of the family. "Kung kinakahiya nila ang Barrettong pangalan, huwag na nilang gamitin, magpalit sila. Gretchen can use Cojuangco kung papayagan siyang gamitin ang Cojuangco, I doubt kung papayag naman si Cojuangco. Marjorie can use Baldivia if she wants kung kinakahiya niya 'yung Barretto," he said. "Wala akong magagawa hindi naman sila nakikinig sa akin," he added.

Claudine: 'You don't destroy people you love'

MANILA -- Days after actor Raymart Santiago revealed her alleged drug use, controversial actress Claudine Barretto posted a cryptic message in her social media accounts. On Thursday morning, Barretto tweeted: "You Dont destroy people you love," which also links to her Instagram account, where she posted a quotation from the US TV series "Grey's Anatomy." from actress Claudine Barretto's instagram account Although Barretto didn't mention any specific person or incident, her posts come just days after Santiago detailed the actress's supposed drug use in a counter-affidavit filed before the Marikina Regional Trial Court last Tuesday, in relation to cases lodged against him by the actress. Barretto is seeking to make permanent a temporary protection order (TPO) against Santiago, which stems from the alleged "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse she had suffered from her husband. Santiago's sworn statement also includes photos and videos, which he said shows his wife's alleged drug abuse. Furthermore, the actor said this can be proven by medical records showing Barretto testing positive in a drug test, as well as her admission to a drug rehabilitation center.

Raymart answers perjury charge filed by Claudine

MANILA – Actor Raymart Santiago on Monday filed his counter-affidavit to the perjury case filed against him by his estranged wife Claudine Barretto. The celebrity couple separated early this year, with Barretto alleging that she suffered "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse from Santiago supposedly since 2002. Santiago has repeatedly denied these allegations, and expressed confidence that the truth will come out even as Barretto filed a temporary protection order against him in July, and a case for his alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004 in late August. On September 4, Barretto filed yet another case against her husband, this time for perjury. According to the actress' legal counsel, Atty. Ginger Castillo, Santiago's camp supposedly lied in a sworn statement in August. "According to them, there is no other case pending when they filed their habeas corpus and they knew at the time there was the TPO case," Castillo said, adding Santiago's lawyers are also respondents in the case. Responding to the allegation, the actor's legal counsel, Atty. Ruth Castillo explained they have yet to receive a copy of the TPO petition when they made the sworn statement. In a past interview, Santiago refused to give a long comment, only saying, "Nagiging circus lang, eh. Pabayaan mo na siyang (Barretto) magsalita." - with a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News

Claudine Barretto faces theft complaint

MANILA -- Claudine Barretto has been accused of theft by her former personal assistant, amounting to over P100,000 in damages, in the latest legal case to beset the actress amid her controversial marital spat. The case against the actress was filed last week, September 11, according to a report published Tuesday on entertainment news site Philippine Entertainment Portal, which cites the signed affidavit of the complainant, Dessa Cadelario Patilan. The 19-year-old Patilan is the same personal assistant who was imprisoned in May this year, following Barretto's accusations of theft. At the time, the 34-year-old actress alleged Patilan stole a watch worth P1.8 million, and several jewelry amounting to P8.5 million. In her complaint-affidavit filed before the Office of the Prosecutor in Marikina, Patilan accused Barretto of violating Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines or Theft, over an alleged incident that took place in May. Patilan is demanding from her former employer P13,550 in damanges, P50,000 in moral damanges, P50,000 in exemplary damages, as well as the monetary cost for legal services. May 10 incident Narrating alleged events on May 10, Patilan in her affidavit said the theft happened at Barretto's residence in Loyola Grand Villas in Marikina City. According to Patilan, the actress was accompanied by Michelle Baretto, Ma. Luisa Ponce Becher, PO3 Pelito Obligacion, PO3 Ibrahim Abdul, and PO1 Wilfredo Cahayag, when she accused her of robbery. The cops, Patilan added, ordered her to show them her belongings. She said she readily did as she was asked, adding she had nothing to hide contrary to Barretto's accusations. When her personal items were subsequently laid out on a long table at the pool area, Patilan said Barretto examined all her belongings, and at one point allegedly tore up a teddy bear given to her (Patilan) by the actress' eldest child, Sabina. Enumerating the items supposedly stolen by Barretto, Patilan said the actress then took her wallet, which contained P10,700 she had received as salary; an electronic tablet, which costs P3,000; a memory card worth P500; and her phone sim card, which costs P50. Barretto, according to Patilan, proceeded to hand her P700 from the money in the wallet, as the actress supposedly said, "Ayan, panggastos mo." The complaint-affidavit was signed by Patilan in the presence of PC Insp. Ramon Santos of Marikina City Police station, according to Philippine Entertainment Portal's report. Patilan's allegation of theft against Barretto comes amid the actress' legal battle with estranged husband Raymart Santiago, whom she accused of "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse. The actress has yet to speak on her former personal assistant's complaint.

Help your daughter, Raymart tells Claudine's parents

MANILA -- Raymart Santiago appealed to the parents of his estranged wife, Claudine Barretto, to help her with her supposed "condition," amid his escalating legal battle with the actress. The 40-year-old actor is now facing a case for alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004, which Barretto filed Thursday afternoon before the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC). On Friday, Santiago attended a court hearing for the Gabriela-backed case which accuses him of "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse against Barretto, supposedly dating back to 2002. Santiago and Barretto were married in March 2006. They have two children -- an adopted daughter, Sabina, 9; and a biological son, Santino, 6. Citing a gag order, the actor refused to divulge details about Friday's court proceedings, but offered he is more than ready to face Barretto's accusations. "Noong una pa lang naman, sinabi niya na magpa-file siya ng VAWC, so talang hinihintay lang namin kung ano ang ipa-file niya, at may pangsagot naman kami doon," he said. Claudine's 'problem' Santiago also criticized his wife's frequent granting of interviews in relation to the case, as he brought up the alleged "problems" of Barretto which he said he had sought to address together with her parents. "Pwede naman niya sabihin lahat, lalo na mahilig siya sa media, mahilig siyang magpa-interview. Pwede niyang ibato sa akin lahat, lahat ng gusto niyang ibato. Pero, totoo ba 'to? "At uulitin ko ang sinasabi ko -- alam ng mga magulang niya ang nangyayari. Alam niyo ang totoo, tulungan niyo ang anak niyo," he said. On Thursday, Santiago addressed Barretto's parents, Miguel and Inday, in expressing his disappointment that they didn't stand by a decision they supposedly made concerning the actress' condition. "Kay mommy at daddy, alam niyo ang totoo. Tayo-tayo ang nag-uusap dati, 'yung problema ni Claudine. Alam niyo and sana panindigan nila 'yung sinabi nila dati sa akin," Santiago said. At the height of the Barretto family's publicized feud early this year, Claudine's older siblings Gretchen and Joaquin brought up the actress supposed "illness," with the latter saying she was put in a hospital at one point. Responding to Inday's move to disown Gretchen in favor of her youngest daughter, Joaquin in a statement mentioned "the truth about Claudine's condition." "May I remind you that it was you and dad who had her put in a hospital because you wanted to save her from destroying herself. Yes, Claudine is going through rough times. Again. And if you truly love her, then you should take concrete steps to save her rather than hitting Gretchen simply because she is standing up to Claudine," Joaquin said in April. 'Battered woman syndrome'? On Thursday, a tearful Claudine in a press conference admitted seeing a psychologist to deal with her personal problems, which she said stemmed from the abuse she suffered in her marriage to Santiago. "Kinailangan kong magpa-process sa mga pyschologist, sa Gabriela, kung meron ho ba akong battered woman syndrome... Nawalan na ako ng self-esteem, ng self-worth. Hindi lang naman ho pambubugbog 'yung pinagdaanan ko eh, kundi mental torture din," she said, crying. Asked for details on the allegations of his wife, Santiago on Thursday only expressed confidence that the truth will eventually come out. "Alam ko na lalabas din ang katotohanan, meron din akong ebidensya... Kahit paano, asawa ko siya. Kahit paano, masakit sa akin na nangyayari 'to lahat, pero 'yun ang gusto niya. 'Yun ang ibibigay ko sa kanya," he said.

Claudine reveals 'years of abuse' with Raymart

MANILA -- "Today, I am breaking my silence." This was the pronouncement of actress Claudine Barretto in making known a "vicious cycle" of abuse from her husband, actor Raymart Santiago, which allegedly dates back to 2002, four years before they were married. The 34-year-old actress on Thursday filed before the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC) a complaint-affidavit detailing Santiago's "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse, with photos showing Barretto's wounds supposedly from the actor's acts of violence. The 40-year-old Santiago now faces a case for his alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004. Barretto was accompanied by her legal team, her parents, as well as fan groups dubbed "Claudinians" and "Claudinatics," in formalizing the complaint on Thursday afternoon. The actress joined her supporters in wearing purple shirts imprinted with "Stop Violence Against Women and Children - Gabriela" on the front side, and "Justice for Claudine Barretto" on the back.

Claudine denies she is Gretchen's 'basher'

Claudine on Gretchen: 'Ayoko siyang patulan' MANILA -- Claudine Barretto said she would rather focus on her court battle than expend energy addressing those who are "complicating" her publicized tiff with husband Raymart Santiago. The 34-year-old actress on Tuesday afternoon attended a court hearing on her petition for a permanent protection order against Santiago, her spouse of seven years. Citing a gag order, both camps refused to detail the court proceedings, which lasted two hours, at the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC). The petition stems from the alleged "physical, verbal, psychological, and even economical" abuse of Raymart against Claudine, as well as their two children, which the actor has repeatedly denied. Shortly after the hearing, Claudine was asked to address a supposed comment made by her estranged sister, Gretchen, who said the custody of her kids should be solely entrusted to Santiago. "No comment... Ayoko siyang patulan," a smiling Claudine said. Gretchen has been "disowned" by her mother, Inday, over her long-waged feud with Claudine over the years. The latest tiff, which erupted in April, stemmed from Gretchen supposedly accusing Claudine of "blocking" their niece Julia's showbiz career. Julia, the daughter of another Barretto sister Marjorie, is set to star in her own "teleserye." The young actress has said she wants to follow in the footsteps of Claudine, who has starred in several soap operas as a former Kapamilya actress. 'Basher' on Instagram? Over the last week, Claudine once again made headlines when Gretchen implied on image-sharing service Instagram that her younger sister is behind the hateful comments made by one "basher" on her page. Asked Tuesday if there is any truth to this, Claudine said, "Hay naku, hindi. Hindi talaga. Alam mo, I don't really care." She went on to give a message to those who are "interfering" with her legal battle, saying she would rather give importance to those who are supporting her. Other family members The "Mula sa Puso" star also thanked those family members who continue to support her, citing her parents in particular. At the height of the family feud early this year, another Barretto sister, Gia, sided with Claudine. Marjorie and another Barretto sibling, Joaquin, are known to be in good terms with Gretchen, as both are frequently seen in Instagram photos shared by the latter on her page. "Syempre, 'yung ibang pamilya ko pa, marami naman kami. And of course 'yung friends ko, very, very loyal and loving, so talagang parang pamilya ko na," Claudine said on Tuesday. Thanking her fans, whom she refers to as "Claudinians," the actress continued, "Maraming, maraming salamat sa pagsuporta at dasal niyo para sa akin, sa mga anak ko, at hindi niyo ko dyina-judge sa kung anu-ano lang na naririnig niyo."

'Bullied' Claudine? Raymart responds

Actor accused of 'making faces' during hearing MANILA -- Raymart Santiago isn't convinced that his estranged wife, Claudine Barretto, was "bullied" by his brother amid a legal battle involving the former couple and their two children. The 40-year-old actor on Tuesday afternoon attended a court hearing on a petition for a permanent protection order filed against him by Barretto, his spouse of seven years. The petition stems from the alleged "physical, verbal, psychological, and even economical" abuse of Raymart against Claudine, as well as their two children, which the actor has repeatedly denied. Citing a gag order, both camps refused to detail the court proceedings on Tuesday. The actress' legal counsel, however, appeared confident about their chances, saying, "It's looking good for us." After the hearing, which lasted two hours at the Marikina Regional Trial Court, Santiago was asked to address his wife's allegations of "bullying" against the actor's brother, singer-host Randy. "Wala namang sinasabi si Randy na ano... He was just protecting me. Parang... I don't know, baka she's overreacting," he told ABS-CBN News. "Parang hindi naman bully siguro 'yung ginawa ng kapatid ko sa kanya, kasi sa mga nabasa ko, parang wala naman sinabi si Randy na nakaka-offend," he added. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on August 6, Randy asserted that his brother is not capable of hurting Barretto or their children, saying only dedicated fans of the actress would believe her allegations. The former noontime show host also expressed confidence that the "truth will prevail." Raymart 'making faces'? Santiago was also asked to address another supposed case of bullying, when he allegedly "made faces" at Barretto during Tuesday's hearing to annoy his former partner. The actor only laughed, saying, "Oh, sinabi niya 'yon?" Referring to his legal feud with Barretto, which also includes a custody battle over their two children, Santiago said he will leave it up the court to arrive at a compromise. "Sa akin, nasa korte na lahat, eh. Respetuhin na lang natin 'yung korte," he said. Barretto, for her part, said Tuesday that taking to court her marital woes is meant to assure she will no longer be a victim of oppression and abuse. "Mas stronger na ako ngayon, mas kaya ko na harapin ang laban na 'to para sa mga anak ko, syempre. Kailagan na rin malaman ng lahat kung ano ba talaga ang totoo, at heto na, babangon na, lalaban na, at hindi na ako magpapaapi. Hindi na mauulit 'yon," she said. The actress has said she is set to file another case against Santiago for his alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004.

Gretchen gives up on helping Claudine

MANILA – Gretchen Barretto has already given up on helping her youngest sister Claudine. This is what the socialite-actress told one of her Instagram followers after the netizen commented that she and her other sister, Marjorie, should help Claudine, who is currently embroiled in a legal battle. Responding to the netizen’s comment, Gretchen said they “have done everything possible to help her.” “She has been attacking us and our children for the help we wish to give her. I have been publicly scorned and accused of a liar for helping her. Why don’t we all just pray that she will go seek help. I guess the time has come when everyone just gave up,” she said. Gretchen added: “She has caused too much hurt that we just have to withdraw from her and her hurtful ways. It’s called self-preservation.” The Barretto family feud erupted back in April after comments on the image-sharing service Instagram, supposedly made by Gretchen, saying Claudine is not happy about Marjorie’s daughter Julia's rise so stardom. In response to reports on the alleged exchange on Instagram, the Barretto matriarch, Inday, released a statement denying Claudine's supposed plans to "block" Julia's career. In the same statement, Inday disowned Gretchen "in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all of her love...Claudine." The issue divided the Barretto siblings, with Gia siding with her mother and youngest sister, while brother Joaquin sided with Gretchen, saying Claudine's "condition" should be addressed. Asked whether she is saddened that she is going through her legal battles without her sisters by her side, Claudine, in a separate interview, said: “No comment.” Santiagos remain mum Meanwhile, the brothers of Claudine’s husband, Raymart Santiago, refused to comment on their brother’s marital life. Riley Santiago, Raymart’s older brother, said their family has yet to agree on coming out with a statement regarding the matter. In late July, Claudine filed a temporary protection order (TPO) against Raymart, citing "physical, verbal, psychological, and even economical" abuse. While Raymart repeatedly denied the allegations, the TPO was granted in early August, with Barretto filing a petition to make it permanent. Both Claudine and Raymart are now seeking the sole custody of their two children, with the actress filing a case against Raymart for his alleged violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. Under a gag order issued by the Marikina Regional Trial Court, neither camp is allowed to divulge information as to the court proceedings, but according to Claudine’s legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio on Thursday, "Umaandar ang mga kaso."

Claudine proud of nieces Julia, Dominique

MANILA - Actress Claudine Barretto said she is proud of her nieces, Julia and Dominique, amid her row with their respective mothers, Marjorie and Gretchen Barretto. Claudine said she misses her nieces, whom she referred to as her own children. She hopes that the younger Barrettos will be spared from the issue surrounding her and their respective mothers. "Sobra akong proud. I'm so proud of you, Julia, and even Doms, you are growing to be such beautiful ladies, inside and out. Mama pretty loves you so much. There's nothing in this world that I won't do for you guys and I miss you. I miss you so much," Claudine said in interview with ABS-CBN News. Inday, Claudine's mother, earlier defended the actress against allegations that she is out to ruin Julia's career. Marjorie's daughter Julia, 16, was recently introduced as an artist of Star Magic, the ABS-CBN talent management firm that launched Claudine to stardom until her transfer to another network in 2009. In a previous interview, Julia stressed that she is a fan of her aunt Claudine. Currently, Julia is gearing up for her debut series, "Mira Bella," while Claudine is preparing for her movie comeback.

Claudine to sisters: 'Walang damayan ng anak'

MANILA - An emotional Claudine Barretto said she now knows how it feels to lose a child, citing her estrangement from the children of her sisters Gretchen and Marjorie. The 34-year-old actress, during a press conference held late Thursday, expressed regret that her nieces, including Marjorie's daughter Julia, have been dragged into the bitter feud involving Claudine and Gretchen. Asked whether she is still in contact with her nieces, Claudine said, "No. I wish, I wish, but no." "If I can only protect them," she said, holding tears. "Huwag. Huwag sana madamay 'yung mga pamangkin ko. 'Yung nawala sina Julia, si Clauie, si Danny, pati si Doms, alam ko na kung paano mamatayan ng anak." The latest feud to rock the Barretto family, which erupted in April, stemmed partly from comments on the image-sharing service Instagram, supposedly made by Gretchen, saying Claudine is not happy about Julia's rise so stardom. Julia is set to star in her own "fantaserye" as an artist of Star Magic, the ABS-CBN talent management firm that launched Claudine to stardom until her transfer to another network in 2009. In response to reports on the alleged exchange on Instagram, the Barretto matriarch, Inday, released a statement denying Claudine's supposed plans to "block" Julia's career. In the same statement, Inday announced she has disowned Gretchen "in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all of her love...Claudine." Subsequent statements made two other Barretto siblings, Joaquin and Gia, addressed the issue. The latter sided with her mother and youngest sister, while Joaquin sided with Gretchen, saying Claudine's "condition" should be addressed. Message for nieces Since the conflict went public, Claudine said she has not been able to see or speak with the children of Gretchen and Marjorie. Asked on Thursday if she misses her nieces and nephew, a tearful Claudine said, "Sobra-sobra, sobra-sobra. Sana walang damayan ng mga anak, kasi kailangan nila ang isa't-isa." Addressing Julia and her younger sister Claudia, as well as Gretchen's daughter Dominique, Claudine added, "I'm so proud of you, Clau. I'm so proud of you, Julia, and even Doms, you're growing up to be such beautiful ladies, inside and out." "Mama Pretty (the children's term of endearment for Claudine) loves you so much, and there's nothing in this world that I won't do for you guys. I miss you, I miss you so much. I'm just here whnever you need me guys," she said. Julia, for her part, has also expressed regret about her estrangement from Claudine, saying she would have wanted to seek advice from the long-time actress about her own stint as a "teleserye" star. [LINK "regret" : http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/06/14/13/julia-barretto-regrets-estrangment-tita-claudine] In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, Marjorie said she doesn't doubt Claudine's love for the young actress, but preferred to keep mum when asked on the unresolved feud among them as sisters. Showbiz comeback Claudine, whose own two children are caught in a custody battle between her and husband Raymart Santiago, said she will start work on her comeback film as soon as she settles her court cases. [LINK "court cases" : http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/08/23/13/stop-bullying-me-claudine-tells-santiango-bros] The actress has said she is gearing up for two film projects under Viva Films, with one being a planned co-production with ABS-CBN's Star Cinema. Referring to her legal battle, Claudine said, "Tatapusin ko lang 'to. Mas kailangan ako ng mga anak ko. Mag-isa nalang ako ngayon, and emotionally, kailangan talaga nila ako. Physically, they need me there." "Matapos ko lang 'tong mga kailangan ko i-file para protektahan sila at ipaglaban sila, then I'm going to start working soon," she said.

Raymart may face criminal raps, Claudine's lawyer warns ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA - Threatening to file a criminal case against Raymart Santiago, the camp of Claudine Barretto called out her estranged husband for the alleged "untruths" he used to "entice" her into marriage. The 34-year-old actress' lawyer, Ferdinand Tapacio, bared their plans Tuesday night in a statement given to ABS-CBN News following Santiago's statement in connection with the temporary protection order (TPO) Barretto filed against him Monday. In Topacio's statement, which he said is not covered by the gag order issued by the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC), the lawyer addressed Santiago's earlier reference to his wife's "capacity to make up stories." Barretto's legal counsel said Santiago's statement was "funny," noting his alleged dishonesty with the actress in wooing her into a relationship. He added these "layers of untruths" may form basis for a criminal case against the 40-year-old actor. "Mr. Raymart Santiago has said in a statement that my client, Ms. Claudine Barretto, is 'capable of making up stories.' "We find that statement to be very funny, coming from a man whose very foundations for his enticements for Ms. Barretto to enter into marriage with him are based on stories concocted by him, and bolstered by layer upon layer of more untruths as we shall prove in a separate case. The deceptions by Mr. Santiago may even constitute criminal offenses," Topacio said. The lawyer also expressed confidence in his client's case, saying they are supported by "solid evidence." "The allegations of Ms. Barretto are based on solid evidence of all kinds and nature. We are looking forward to seeing Mr. Santiago in court, so that, once and for all, it may determine who is telling the truth," he said. Barretto sought Monday a TPO from the Marikina RTC against Santiago for her and their children. The actress, however, refused to divulge the reason for the legal step. Santiago, for his part, readily denied Barretto's "accusations" that he physically hurt her and their children, aged 9 and 6. The former couple got married in March 2006.

Gretchen not shocked by Claudine-Raymart rift

MANILA -- Actress Gretchen Barretto said she is not surprised by the latest controversy involving her sister, Claudine. On Monday, Claudine filed a temporary protection order against her estranged husband, Raymart Santiago. Asked for comment about the issue, Gretchen said: "No. I was not shocked. With many things happening, I am only concerned with my self-preservation." Gretchen added that she and their brother, Jay-Jay, are hoping that the truth will prevail. Meanwhile, Gretchen said she is excited over her new projects, which include the Cinemalaya movie "The Diplomat Hotel" and the ABS-CBN series "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," which stars Judy Ann Santos. She made her first appearance as a lawyer in Santos' soap on Monday (July 29). "Abogada niya ako. Akala ko professional na ako, pero mas pa pala si Juday. I learned so much from her," Gretchen said. -- Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News

Emotional Claudine surfaces in court

Court issues gag order on actress' camp MANILA -- An emotional Claudine Barretto surfaced Tuesday at the Marikina Regional Trial Court to attend a hearing for the temporary protection order (TPO) she filed Monday against her estranged husband, actor Raymart Santiago. The 34-year-old actress was accompanied to the venue by her sister, Mitchie, and her legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio. The "Mula sa Puso" star, who refused to grant any interview, was seen crying as she made her way to the clerk of court together with her sister, as well as when she exited the building. Topacio, who met with family court judge Geraldine Macaraig, said his client's camp had been issued a gag order, which disallows them to talk about any matter related to the case. The hearing for the TPO, Topacio added, was rescheduled to a later date, which means Barretto's request to bar Santiago from being within 300 meters of her and their children has yet to be granted. The former couple have two children -- an adopted daughter, Sabina, 9; and a biological son, Santino, 6. Barretto earlier refused to give details about the TPO, including the reason behind her seeking the measure. "Ayaw ko talagang magsalita. I am not ready to talk. I don't want to talk. I just want to be protected. I just want my children to be protected. 'Yun lang masasabi ko," she said in an interview on radio dzMM Monday. Santiago, for his part, spoke for the first time through a statement released Tuesday denying "accusations" supposedly thrown against him by his wife. He said there is no truth to speculations that he physically hurt his children and Barretto, adding he will address the matter in court "in the right time." -- Report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News

One of Marjorie’s posts says: “A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her.” She also quoted the lyrics of David Guetta’s hit song “Titanium,” which says: “I'm bullet proof nothing to lose fire away fire away... Ricochet you take your aim.. Fire way fire away... You shoot me down BUT I WON'T FALL I AM TITANIUM.” The latest feud to rock the Barretto family stemmed partly from comments on the image-sharing service Instagram, supposedly made by Gretchen, saying that her sister Claudine is not happy that their niece, Julia, is starting to make a name for herself in showbiz. Julia, the second daughter of Marjorie Barretto, was recently introduced as an artist of Star Magic, the ABS-CBN talent management firm that launched Claudine to stardom until her transfer to another network in 2009. In response to reports on the alleged exchange on Instagram, the Barretto matriarch had released a statement denying Claudine's supposed plans to "block" Julia's road to stardom. In the same statement, she announced she has disowned Gretchen "in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all of her love…Claudine." Subsequent statements made by Joaquin and Gia addressed the issue. Gia sided with her mother and youngest sister, while Joaquin sided with Gretchen, saying Claudine's "condition" should be addressed. Last Sunday, Gretchen finally broke her silence and maintained that she will not fight back despite the accusations made against her by her own mother and older sister. The socialite-actress said she’d rather not talk about the ongoing feud involving her family because it is fight that’s supposed to be solved privately. Claudine has yet to speak about the issue.

Claudine 'holding up well' amid controversy

MANILA, Philippines -- Amid the controversy involving her family members, Claudine Barretto is "holding up well," according to a long-time friend of the actress. "It's a most difficult time but my friend, Claudine Barretto, is holding up well," Francis Simeon, a friend of the 33-year-old actress' for 21 years now, said in a statement sent exclusively to "Showbiz Inside Report." "She is grateful for the love and support of her true friends, her parents, Daddy Mike and Mommy Inday, sister Gia, her loyal Claudinians and her two most precious treasures, Sabina and Santino," said Simeon, who is also a writer for the entertainment magazine StarStudio. Sabina and Santino are Claudine's children with husband Raymart, who has recently decided to live apart from the actress, according to her mother Inday in a statement released early this week. Aside from her marital problems, Claudine is currently involved in a feud among her other celebrity sisters, Gretchen and Majorie, who both allegedly accused her of sabotaging the career of showbiz newcomer Julia Barretto. Julia, the second daughter of Marjorie, was recently introduced as an artist of Star Magic, the ABS-CBN talent management firm that launched Claudine to stardom until her transfer to another network in 2009. Early this week, in response to reports on the allegations, Inday released a statement denying Claudine's supposed plans to "block" Julia's road to stardom. In the same statement, Inday announced she has disowned Gretchen "in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all of her love…Claudine." Subsequent statements made by two other Barretto siblings, Joaquin and Gia, addressed the issue. The latter sided with her mother and youngest sister, while Joaquin sided with Gretchen, saying Claudine's "condition" should be addressed. According to Joaquin, Claudine was put in a hospital for a time, as decided by their parents, to address her mental health -- a matter denied by Inday. In his statement released Saturday, Simeon said that his friend Claudine "draws strength from [her family and friends], and the Lord for standing by her, never forsaking her, believing in her even when the rest of the world thinks otherwise." He added: "She continues to pray for wisdom and discernment and that things will be well in God's perfect time."
