Spotted: James Yap kisses girlfriend after San Mig win

MANILA -- In a rare moment, an elated James Yap gamely showed his affection for his Italian girlfriend shortly after the star cager's team, San Mig Coffee, clinched the PBA Governors' Cup title on Friday night. The 31-year-old basketball player, who has repeatedly evaded discussing his relationship with Michela Cazzola, was seen kissing his girlfriend of more than a year before some 20,000 spectators at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The candid moment, which saw a beaming Cazzola with Yap planting a kiss on her cheek, happened minutes after San Mig Coffee defeated Petron Blaze, 87-77, in their seventh and last match in the PBA Finals. Also among the personalities spotted at the event were actress Danica Sotto, the wife of San Mig Coffee's Marc Pingris; and UAAP stars and siblings Jeric and Jeron Teng, with their father Alvin. While Yap appeared to be open about his relationship with Cazzola as he took to Instagram to share their private moments starting June, the basketball star would always remain tight-lipped in interviews on the subject of his girlfriend. Cazzola is a secretariat specialist at the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines. She is no stranger to the country, ABS-CBN News has learned, as her father also worked here for a time. Yap was previously in a relationship with actress-host Kris Aquino, with whom he has a son. The former couple's marriage was declared null in February last year.

Does Bimby have 'haters'? James fears so

James Yap says concerned over criticisms toward son MANILA -- Set to make his big-screen debut on Christmas Day, James Yap, Jr., his father fears, may start getting his share of "haters" as he slowly enters the world of showbiz. The 6-year-old boy, nicknamed "Bimby," will star in his first-ever movie via the Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Torky and My Little Bossing." He will co-star with his mother, actress-host Kris Aquino, "Eat Bulaga" star Vic Sotto, and child wonder Ryzza Mae Dizon. Yap, who lives apart from Aquino and Bimby, expressed concern over his son's acting debut. While he feels proud as a father, the star cager said the move might attract "bashers" targeting his son. Speaking at the sidelines of a press conference held early this week by a sports store he endorses, the 31-year-old basketball player appeared to be at a loss for words when the topic of his son's movie was brought up. "Well, bilang tatay, proud. Pero... paano ba sasabihin... "Well, kumbaga... Paano ba? I'm sure... Sana huwag mangyari sa kanya," he said. Acknowledging that having critics is a "reality" in showbiz, Yap continued, "Meron talagang bad comments against him, 'di ba, sa anak ko. Well, natural 'yan sa pagpasok sa ganoong [industriya]." As a father, he said he can only assure Bimby has his full support and guidance in dealing with any criticism directed at him. "Basta nandito lang ako lagi para sa anak ko, dahil mahal ko ang anak ko. Kahit anong mangyari, nandito ako," he said. Early this year, Yap was embroiled in a controversy involving the custody of Bimby and his alleged spat with Aquino. The former couple met in court numerous times, but eventually settled on a compromise which both parties referred to as beneficial to their son.

James Yap on love life: 'Masaya ako'

MANILA -- Star cager James Yap chose to be brief in addressing the current state of his "love life," following his publicized relationship with an Italian woman early this year. The 31-year-old basketball player was asked on the topic at the sidelines of a recent press conference held early this week by a sports store he endorses. "Basta masasabi ko lang... masaya ako. Masaya na tapos na lahat ng problema, sana wala nang mangyari. Pagdating sa mga gano'ng bagay -- love life -- happy tayo," he said. Although he only started hinting at his romantic relationship in June through photos on Instagram, Yap and his Italian girlfriend, Michela Cazzola, have been a couple for more than a year now. Cazzola is a secretariat specialist at the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines. She is no stranger to the country, as her father also worked here for a time. Yap's going public with his relationship with Cazzola came after a series of controversies involving him and his former wife, actress-host Kris Aquino, and their only child, James "Bimby" Yap, Jr. Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005. Their marriage was declared null in February last year, following allegations of infidelity on Yap's part. Referring to a tumultuous first half of the year, which saw him face Aquino in court numerous times, Yap said, "Sana wala nang gulo na darating sa buhay ko. Masaya ako dahil tapos na lahat, at pinag-pe-pray ko na hindi na maulit 'yung nangyari sa akin. Kumbaga, sana makapag-focus na ako sa ginagawa ko, na basketball player." Now past the worst controversy to hit him so far, is settling down anew in the near future for Yap? "Wala pa. Gaya nang sabi ko, wala pa sa isip ko ang kasal-kasal," he said. As for having another baby, Yap quipped, "Yari tayo diyan! Relax!"

James Yap shares 'sweet' photo with girlfriend

MANILA – It seems that professional basketball player James Yap is slowly letting his fans into his personal life as he posted yet another photo with his girlfriend Michela. On Sunday, Yap shared a photo in his Instagram account showing his Italian girlfriend hugging him. The two appear to be privately having tea since no other people are captured in the photo. The image is simply captioned “1.” As of posting, the photo dubbed "sweet" by the followers of the basketball player on Instagram, already has over 2,660 "likes" and more than 170 comments. While he shares bits of his personal life to his followers, Yap remains evasive when asked about his love life, saying he wants to keep it private this time. Yap was previously married to television host Kris Aquino, with whom he has a son, James "Bimby" Yap Jr. However, Yap, for the first time, talked about Michela earlier this month, saying she has been very supportive of him despite his past. "Alam naman niya lahat bago ako pumasok sa relasyon. Alam niya lahat," he said at the time. "Very ano siya, supportive. Supportive all the way," Yap added. While he is happy with how his relationship is going, Yap said his main focus right now is his son with Aquino. Yap finally got to spend time with Bimby earlier this month following a resolved legal dispute between him and Aquino.

James Yap not in favor of Bimby's movie?

MANILA – Basketball star James Yap seems to have reservations when asked about the news that James "Bimby" Yap Jr., his son with TV host Kris Aquino, is making his movie debut. Last month, Aquino announced that her son has been cast in the movie "Torky and My Little Bossing," which is among the eight official entries to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Apart from Bimby, the movie also features child star Ryzza Mae Dizon and comedian-TV host Vic Sotto. Initially refusing to comment on the matter, Yap then told ABS-CBN News that it would have been better if he was informed about Bimby’s movie project. “Sana merong [consultation] kahit paano sa tatay pero mahirap din naman na kontrahin kasi baka kung ano na namang mangyayari, gulo na naman," he said. Yap explained that all he is asking for is respect since he is still the father of the six-year-old boy. “Kasi siyempre bilang tatay dapat respetuhin naman ako dahil hindi ka naman magkakaanak kung wala ako. So sana man lang i-consult or ipaalam man lang. Ako naman madali naman akong kausap. Wala naman problema, pero respeto lang sana kung maaari,” he said. On Monday, Yap and Aquino faced each other in court anew to talk about the former’s rights to visit Bimby. While both parties refused to give details about the hearing, citing a gag order, the former spouses said they are happy with how it turned out. "This will really benefit my son very much," Aquino said. Yap, for his part, hopes to have a bigger say on raising Bimby. “Sana move on na rin lahat para focus na lang kaming dalawa kung paano namin papalakihin ng maayos [si Bimby]. Hindi kami naging successful bilang partners, pero sana maging successful kami bilang nanay at tatay. Iyon lang ang pinagdadasal ko talaga,” he said.

James Yap posts photo with 'mystery girl' in Italy

MANILA, Philippines – Where was James Yap on Father’s Day? This question was answered by the professional basketball player himself via a post he made in the image-sharing site Instagram on Wednesday. Two days after his former wife, Kris Aquino, told the media that Yap was out of reach on Father’s Day, the 31-year-old cager surprised netizens as he posted a photo of himself with a blonde-haired woman. While Yap only said “#italy #niceview” in the caption, many believe that the girl in the photo is his rumored Italian girlfriend. In the photo, Yap and the woman were seen close to each other as they stand on a ledge made of bricks and rocks, with the sea behind them. The Instagram photo sparked online buzz, getting more than 1,800 "likes" and over 200 comments as of writing. Some netizens said they are happy for the basketball player for finally finding someone to be with, while others continued to question him for not being with his son, Bimby, last Father's Day. In his earlier interviews, Yap said spending time with his son Bimby would be the best gift for Father's Day he could ever have. Yap even cut short his vacation with his family in Negros Occidental, hoping to spend time with his son again after the Makati Regional Trial Court denied his ex-wife Kris Aquino's appeal for a permanent protection order (PPO) against him on behalf of their 6-year-old son late last month. “Medyo matagal na rin kami hindi nagkikita. Sa billboard ko na lang siya nakikita, (laughs) sa TV. So ayun, excited [akong makasama siya],” he said. Aquino, however, said on Tuesday that she did her part for Bimby to celebrate Father’s Day with Yap. Aquino said she texted Yap’s lawyers at 8 a.m. but didn’t get a reply until 4:45 p.m. "Sinabi sa akin na sorry di daw nila makontak si Mr. Yap pero subukan ko na lang daw tumawag. Honestly, huwag naman akong gawing kontrabida kasi I did my share at 8 in the morning,” she said. Based on Yap’s Instagram posts, he has been in Europe since the first week of June. His latest post revealed he is currently in Paris.

Why James Yap won't see Bimby soon

MANILA – It seems that professional basketball player James Yap will not be able to spend quality time with his son with former wife Kris Aquino, James “Bimby” Yap Jr., soon. Aquino posted several photos in the image-sharing site Instagram showing that she is currently in Malaysia with sons Bimby and Joshua. The three left the country for a vacation in the Southeast Asian country most probably on Monday, a day after the grand finals night of the hit talent show “Pilipinas Got Talent,” where Aquino sits as a judge. According to Aquino’s photo captions, they will be travelling to Singapore next as part of Joshua’s birthday celebration. It wasn't clear in her captions when Aquino and her sons are planning to return to Manila. In an interview with ABS-CBN News last Saturday, Yap said he cut short his vacation to return to Manila, hoping to spend time with his son again after the Makati Regional Trial Court denied Aquino's appeal for a permanent protection order (PPO) against him on behalf of their 6-year-old son. Yap was with his family in his home town of Escalante in Negros Occidental when news about the court decision broke out. Yap’s legal counsel Lorna Kapunan earlier said the star cager prefers to see his son this week since the court decision on the PPO for Bimby brings back in place the visitation schedules for the basketball player. He was earlier allowed by the family court to visit Bimby on Wednesdays and Fridays. Kris Aquino with sons Joshua and Bimby in Malaysia. Photo from Aquino's Instagram account According to Yap, he looks forward to spending quality time with his only child, adding that would be the best gift for Father's Day. Asked whether he has activities planned for his reunion with Bimby, Yap said on Friday, "Siyempre, sisikapin ko na maging masaya kami sa bonding namin." "Ibibigay ko kung ano 'yung hilig niya ngayon, kung ano 'yung gusto niyang gawin ngayon, dahil medyo matagal-tagal kaming hindi nagkita o nag-usap, so hindi ko alam kung ano ang hilig niya ngayon," he said. Father's Day will be celebrated this year on June 16.

James Yap tells son Bimby: 'Pinaglaban kita'

MANILA, Philippines -- James Yap is elated with the court decision allowing him to reunite with son, James "Bimby" Yap, Jr. In an interview with ABS-CBN News' Ginger Conejero on Friday, the star cager said he looks forward to spending quality time with his only child with actress-host Kris Aquino, his former partner. This after the Makati Regional Trial Court denied Aquino's appeal for a permanent protection order (PPO) against Yap on behalf of their son. "Siyempre sobrang saya, 'no. 'Yun lang talaga 'yung pinagpe-pray ko, na ma-deny 'yung kay baby James. Hindi ko na iniisip kung anuman 'yung resulta ng case ko kay Kris," Yap said. While the PPO for Bimby was denied, the court granted a protection order against Yap sought by Aquino for herself. The order stems from an incident last December 3, when Yap allegedly attempted to "force himself" on Aquino in front of their son. Yap has denied making such "amorous advances" on Aquino. The actress' appeal for a PPO for her son was due to Yap allegedly causing "distress" on Bimby from his mere presence, following the alleged incident in December last year. Asked whether he has activities planned for his reunion with Bimby, Yap said on Friday, "Siyempre, sisikapin ko na maging masaya kami sa bonding namin." "Ibibigay ko kung ano 'yung hilig niya ngayon, kung ano 'yung gusto niyang gawin ngayon, dahil medyo matagal-tagal kaming hindi nagkita o nag-usap, so hindi ko alam kung ano ang hilig niya ngayon," he said. According to Yap's legal counsel, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, the court decision on the PPO for Bimby brings back in place the visitation schedules for the basketball player. He was earlier allowed by the family court to visit Bimby on Wednesdays and Fridays. Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005. Their marriage was declared null in February last year, following allegations of infidelity on Yap's part. The father no longer has custody of Bimby, but was able to visit his son 109 times in a year as previously ordered by court. The child lives with Aquino along with his half-brother, Joshua. Yap plans to make "changes" to the way he spends time with his son, saying his prior visits were mostly spent only at home. "Kasi before nung nagbi-visit ako sa kanya, hindi kami nakakalabas, lagi na lang sa loob ng bahay nila, so hindi talaga 'yung bonding, 'yung laro," he said. He added: "'Yun ang iniisip ko ngayon, kung paano siya maging masaya, ngayong may chance kami lumabas sa public. Of course, every time na meron kaming gagawin, kailangan happy kaming dalawa." Asked for his message to Bimby, who he hopes to see "as soon as possible," Yap said, "Excited ang Papa mo na makita ka ulit. Talagang pinaglaban kita." "Sobrang saya ko dahil answered prayer talaga. Pinagdadasal ko na mangyari itong ganitong sitwasyon na makasama ka ulit," he said. He added: "Lagi mong tatandaan na love na love ka ni Papa. Sisikapin ko na maging mabuting ama sa'yo at maging masaya tayo together every time na nagba-bonding tayo, every time na magkasama tayo. Ito lang tandaan mo: love na love ka ni Papa."

James Yap reunited with son Bimby?

MANILA – Basketball star James Yap on Tuesday was a picture of a happy father as he posted a photo of him with his son Bimby on the image-sharing site Instagram (seen above). While it is not clear whether Yap was indeed finally able to spend time with his 6-year-old son again, he seemed grateful as seen in his photo caption. “Thank You Lord,” the 31-year-old athlete said. Yap has been prohibited from being within 100 meters of Bimby and his ex-wife, television host Kris Aquino, under a protection order, which the actress-host herself sought. The order stems from an incident last December 3, when Yap allegedly attempted to "force himself" on Aquino in front of their son, and three other incidents in January and March where the basketball star allegedly caused "distress" on Bimby. Yap has denied making such "amorous advances" on Aquino, and has accused his former wife of "brainwashing" their child. Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005. Their marriage was declared null in February last year, following allegations of infidelity on Yap's part. Yap no longer has custody of Bimby, but was allowed to visit his son 109 times in a year by court until the issuance of the TPO. The child lives with Aquino along with his half-brother, Joshua.

I miss you, James Yap tells son Bimby

MANILA, Philippines -- James Yap on Friday sought to remind his son Bimby of his love on the occasion of the latter's 6th birthday, as the star cager remains barred from visiting his only child with former partner Kris Aquino. An undated photo of the professional basketball player with his son James "Bimby" Yap, Jr. Photo courtesy of Yap's Instagram page The 31-year-old basketball player took to image-sharing service Instagram midnight Friday to greet his son by posting an undated photo of them together (seen above) captioned with the following: "I miss holding your hand, I miss giving u a hug. Kahit anong mangyari, lagi mo tatandaan na mahal na mahal ka ni papa! Happy birthday babyJames!! #flashbackfriday" Yap has been prohibited from being within 100 meters of Bimby and Aquino under a temporary protection order (TPO), which the actress-host is seeking to make permanent. The order stems from an incident last December 3, when Yap allegedly attempted to "force himself" on Aquino in front of their son, and three other incidents in January and March where the celebrity cager allegedly caused "distress" on Bimby. Yap has denied making such "amorous advances" on Aquino, and has accused his former partner of "brainwashing" their child. Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005. James Yap has yet to see son Bimby

MANILA – Professional basketball player James Yap has yet to see his son James “Bimby” Yap Jr. since the five-year-old boy arrived from a two-week vacation in Europe with his mother Kris Aquino. “Hindi pa [kami nagkikita ni Bimby],” Yap told ABS-CBN News on Monday. But even before the reporters could ask any more questions, Yap said he will not talk about his ex-wife or their son. “Sorry ha, pero hindi ako pwede magsalita about that. May gag order so hayaan ko na lang ang court,” Yap said. His legal counsel Lorna Kapunan had sought the gag order last month so both Yap and Aquino will not be able to discuss their legal problems with the media. Aquino and her sons left for a planned vacation in Europe last March 23, amid a new spat with her former husband. The host-actress has sought a temporary protection order against Yap, preventing the celebrity athlete to come close to Bimby by at least 100 meters. The order stems from an incident last December 3, when Yap allegedly attempted to "force himself" on Aquino in front of the five-year-old. The professional basketball player has denied making such "amorous advances." Yap and Aquino were supposed to attend a court hearing on Monday but it was reportedly postponed.

Aquino stays away from Kris-James spat

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III has steered clear of his celebrity sister Kris Aquino’s public spat with her estranged husband James Yap that has sent Netizens abuzz. The President said on Monday that he was aware of it, thanks to his other sisters, but otherwise he has not had a chance to chat with Kris before she flew to Paris with her two sons. “I haven’t talked to her. I haven’t talked to her prior to her appearance on that interview. She has left for Paris together with her kids. I got information about it from my other sisters yesterday. But I haven’t talked to my youngest sister,’’ he said on Monday, when asked for his advice to his sister. Kris caused a stir when she asked a Makati City court for a temporary protection order against Yap, claiming the hoops player had made unwanted sexual advances on her while visiting their son James Jr. or “Bimby’’ in her condominium unit last December. Yap denied this, but countered by seeking a hold departure order on Kris and James Jr. A teary-eyed Kris later appeared on national TV with sisters Ballsy, Pinky and Viel to give her side of the spat, announcing her resignation from her three TV shows. The court forbade them and their lawyers from further speaking about the case in public. Kris flew with her two sons, Bimby and Josh, her son with Philip Salvador, last Friday to Disneyland in Paris.

Court tells Kris Aquio, James Yap to shut up

MANILA, Philippines—Would television host Kris Aquino and basketball star James Yap agree to a verbal ceasefire while peace talks are underway? The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 144 on Friday called a truce between the warring television host and star cager at a closed-door hearing on the hold-departure order (HDO) filed by Yap against his ex-wife and their 5-year-old son, James “Bimby” Yap Jr. Judge Liza Marie Picardal-Tecson issued a gag order on the HDO case a day after Aquino and her sisters granted extensive interviews on television news programs, detailing her side of the story. Five days before Yap asked for the HDO, the court received and granted a temporary protection order (TPO) plea filed by Aquino against Yap, allegedly over an incident of domestic violence in December. In her petition, Aquino asked the court to order Yap to stay away by keeping a distance of at least 100 meters from her, Bimby and any household member. It also asked that the court render “permanent” the 30-day TPO. The court has yet to decide on making the protection order permanent. Visitation violation Yap filed for the HDO after learning that Aquino and Bimby were set to leave Saturday for a vacation in Paris, France, alleging that, like the TPO, the departure would violate his visitation rights as Bimby’s father.

James Yap shunned by own son, says lawyer of Kris Aquino

MANILA, Philippines – “I hate you! I don’t want to talk to you! Stay away from me!” These were the words allegedly uttered by TV host Kris Aquino and James Yap’s son, five-year-old “Bimby”, against his father, former Solicitor General Frank Chavez told Radyo Inquirer 990AM Thursday. James Yap. INQUIRER FILE PHOTO Chavez is representing Kris who recently filed for a temporary protection order (TPO) against Yap, saying he (Yap) had made “overt sexual advances” during one of his visitations last December but was rejected, after which he said “mean and malicious statements.” Chavez said that the incident, one of several, was seen by Bimby and had traumatized him. There were also such incidents that happened last January, on March 8 and also on March 13, Chavez said. On March 8, Kris had found Bimby running and shouting “I hate you! I don’t want to talk to you! Stay away from me!” during one of Yap’s visits, Chavez said. The following week, on March 13, Yap had wanted to talk to Bimby, there was a video taken by an assistant of Kris showing that Bimby did not want to talk to his father, Chavez added. He further said that Yap was not sincere in seeing his son because out of the 104 times a year he was allowed to visit on a twice-a-week basis, Yap only visited 22 up to 25 times at most. “He himself has indicated that he is not sincere in seeing his son,” Chavez said. “He does not avail [of his visitation rights], he does not maximize the opportunity.” When asked why it was only now that Kris filed for the protection order when the alleged harassment incident happened in December, Chavez said they wanted to let the issue cool down first and had hoped Yap would change his ways. “Hindi nagbabago eh, nag-eescalate yung mga hindi tamang gawa,” Chavez said. “So nung sobra na, tama na.”

Kris Aquino seeks temporary protection order vs ex-husband James Yap

Kris Aquino is seeking a temporary protection order (TPO) against her ex-husband, basketball star James Yap, whom she accused of making “overt sexual advances” during a recent visit, thus traumatizing their son James Jr. or Bimby. The actress-TV host filed the petition in Makati City where she and her two sons live in a condominium unit. According to a report by Rina Jimenez David for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the TPO will be good for 30 days if granted, but Kris also wants the order to be made permanent. She has asked the court to order James to keep away from her and Bimby, and bar him from visiting her house, her place of work, Bimby’s school and any place frequented by her and Bimby. According to her petition, James entered her bedroom during a visit last December to pick up Bimby as part of his twice-a-week visitation rights, and “acted as if he was still entitled to his matrimonial rights” in full view of their son. And when she rejected him flatly, she alleged that he responded with “mean and malicious statements”, forcing Bimby to tell James to “stop hurting” Kris and leave. Kris and James married in 2005 and separated in June 2010. Their marriage was officially annulled early last year. The settlement came with a division of several properties and the payment of a hefty amount to James, which Kris announced in a recent tweet.
