Marian on movie: Kumita kami, 'di lang malaki

MANILA -- Actress Marian Rivera does not mind those who are comparing the success of her movie with Ai Ai delas Alas with the box office hit of her boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes. Rivera admitted that "Kung Fu Divas" did not earn as much as "She's the One" starring Dantes, Bea Alonzo and Enrique Gil, but she maintained that it still did well in cinemas. She added that she is happy for the success of her boyfriend's movie project. "Lahat naman ng movie ni Dong successful, happy ako para sa kanya," she said. The actress added that what is more important is that she and Dantes remain happy as a couple. "Masaya kami. Walang sikreto, siguro totoong pagmamahal at pagbibigayan, siguro mas maganda kung totoo 'yung nararamdaman talaga," she said. While her movie was not a box office hit, Rivera said this will not stop her from producing more films. "Oo naman, hindi ako madadala, Siguro sa magandang proyekto pag-aaralan mabuti dahil hindi din biro ang nilalabas ng isang producer," she said.

Marian has yet to watch Dingdong-Bea film

MANILA – Actress Marian Rivera Rivera admitted that she has yet to find time to watch “She’s The One” starring her boyfriend, actor Dindong Dantes, and Bea Alonzo because of her very hectic schedule. The Star Cinema-produced film has already breached the P100-million mark with just two weeks in theaters nationwide. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Rivera said she has no say about Dantes’ career because it will still be the actor’s decision on what projects to accept -- such as another movie with Alonzo. Meanwhile, Rivera said she is happy with the outcome of her latest film “Kung Fu Divas,” which was also co-produced by Star Cinema. According to the website Box Office Mojo, Rivera's movie with comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas made P32,772,204 after two weeks in theaters. Maganda 'yung quality ng pelikula,” Rivera said. What’s more important, she said, is the friendship that they have developed while shooting the movie. “Hindi kami more on sa magkano ang kinita ng pelikula namin. We’re more on 'yung paano kami nag-bond after and paano kami sa pelikula doon,” she said. “Kung Fu Divas” is Rivera's first movie under Star Cinema, while Dantes has done three for the ABS-CBN film production outfit.

Marian Rivera: I don't believe in destiny

MANILA – Just like her character in the movie “Kung Fu Divas,” Marian Rivera said she is not the type of person who relies on destiny. In an interview with “Bandila” host Boy Abunda Wednesday night, Rivera said she would rather do something to achieve her goals in life than just wait for things to happen. Rivera believes it would be more fulfilling if she attains something out of her own hard work. According to Rivera, another thing she learned through her movie is the responsibility that comes when people always compliment her looks. Kailangan sa bawat lalabas ka, kailangan maganda,” she said. Rivera said she considers it a challenge because she is just a simple person when she is not in front of the camera. Rivera is currently promoting her movie “Kung Fu Divas” which she headlines with delas Alas. This is her first movie under Star Cinema.

Marian Rivera rationalizes negative image

Actress Marian Rivera was praised by her Kung Fu Divas co-stars for her “genuine” character off cam. Flattered with the compliments, the star commented, “…Kasi ‘yun nga sinasabi ko eh hangga’t hindi niyo nakakatrabaho si Marian Rivera hindi niyo makikilala ang totoong ako.” During the grand press con for the movie, her co-star Roderick Paulate even likened her to his good friend, the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano, who herself has long been labeled as the “Taray Queen,” when according to him, in real life, was just misunderstood for being the no-nonsense and honest type of person. Kaya lang ‘yun, ‘wag mo siyang de-denggoyin which is very Maricel. ‘Pag niloko mo siya nasasaktan siya,” the actor-turned-politician described Marian. Roderick admitted that being too open in showbiz can be detrimental at times, which is why he constantly reminds Marian to be less frank to the public because “… Marian, for her part, albeit only indirectly, has owned up to being “mataray.” What’s interesting though is that despite earning negative comments for this she still doesn’t feel the need to change it. “Hindi eh. Wala namang masama sa pagiging totoo as long as wala akong tinatapakang ibang tao. Much to the press’ surprise, co-star Ai-Ai de las Alas revealed that when it comes to Marian’s boyfriend Dingdong Dantes, the latter is anything but feisty. Ai-Ai even shared the story about Marian’s aquarium at home. “Meron siya sa kanilang aquarium, ‘yung aquarium na ‘yun siya talaga lagi ang naglilinis nun so alam natin kung gaano kabigat yung aquarium so bilang girl na kaya niya naman talagang gawin ‘yun,” she began. But since, according to Ai-Ai, Marian wants to evoke being “girl na girl” around Dingdong she would ask for his help. “… But in the end, the veteran comedienne lauded Marian’s distinct devotion to her relationship with Dingdong because “ginagawa niya lahat para mag work out ang relationship nila.” Marian on the other hand has welcomed Ai Ai’s “expose” of sorts about her. But is she really a “submissive” just like what Ai Ai claims her to be?

Marian gives 100% to boyfriend Dingdong

MANILA – “Kung Fu Divas” actress Marian Rivera believes a person should always give her 100% when loving a partner. In the Monday episode of “KrisTV,” the 29-year-old actress, who is in a relationship with actor Dingdong Dantes, said she lives by this belief, adding that she doesn’t want to regret anything in the future if ever something happens. Rivera said it is only when a person gives his/her all that he/she will feel the true meaning of love. In her past interview, Rivera said she would describe herself as a “sweet” girlfriend. "Sweet ako eh! 'Di ba sinasabi palagi, 'Pag nagmahal ka, 1% kailangan itira mo sa sarili mo, huwag lahat ibibigay mo.' Hindi ako naniniwala sa gano'n eh," she said. Just like the Dantes, Rivera said she is also the type of person who loves giving gifts to the people she loves. “Hindi sa mahal or sa murang halaga. Sanay ako na sa taong malapit sa puso ko, kaibigan man kita or katrabaho kita, mahilig ako magbigay ng gift. Naniniwala ako na doon sa gift na yun, mapapasaya kita, maliit man or malaki basta ang sa akin, naalala kita,” she explained. Last August, Rivera and Dantes celebrated their birthdays as a couple. Asked what Dantes gave her, she said: “Gift niya 'yung whole trip namin sa Bali.” Rivera, for her part, said she said she gave Dantes a watch which the actor really liked. As to when she and Dantes are planning to tie the knot, Rivera only confirmed they have discussed settling down. But she offered, "We're getting there." "Napag-uusapan namin 'yan, at bilang babae, gusto ko talagang magkaroon ng isang pamilya at maraming anak," she said

Marian recalls parents' divorce, vows not to repeat history

MANILA -- Raised by her maternal grandmother after her parents separated, actress Marian Rivera is looking not to repeat history with the family she is planning to build with long-time partner Dingdong Dantes. Speaking with "Showbiz Inside Report" host Carmina Villaroel, the 28-year-old actress vowed to keep her future family intact, recalling her parents' divorce when she was only 2 years old. Rivera was born in Madrid to a Spanish father and a Filipino mom. She and her mother eventually moved to Cavite in the Philippine after her parents' separation. While her mother was away for work, Rivera was taken care of by her grandmother. May nanay at tatay, may mga anak," the actress said in the interview aired Saturday. The "Kung Fu Divas" star also openly discussed her relationship with Dantes, her boyfriend of over four years. Thankful ako kasi mabait na tao talaga si Dong," she said. Asked how she would describe herself as a girlfriend, Rivera said, "Sweet ako eh! As to when she and Dantes are planning to tie the knot, Rivera only confirmed they have discussed settling down. But she offered, "We're getting there." "Napag-uusapan namin 'yan, at bilang babae, gusto ko talagang magkaroon ng isang pamilya at maraming anak," she said.

Ai Ai delas Alas on love: Not now

MANILA - Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas said she is open to being in a relationship again, but stressed that it will not happen anytime soon. "Not now. Matagal pa siguro. Hindi naman natin alam," delas Alas told her celebrity friend, Kris Aquino, in an episode of the morning show "Kris TV" aired on Friday. Delas Alas admitted that she still cannot help but cry whenever she recalls her controversial separation with her husband, Jed Salang. Totoo 'yon," delas Alas told Aquino. Aquino, whose marriage to basketball player James Yap was annulled last year, agreed with delas Alas. "True, 'di ba? Hindi kasi kapag may proseso kang pagdadaanan eh babalik lahat. Diyos ko, at kailangan i-unearth lahat. The saddest part is in order for you to get that annulment, parang lahat na ng baho niyo sa isa't isa ay kailangan niyong halukayin. 'Yun ang problema, after that may ano 'yan, tumatatak sa puso," Aquino said. Despite her failed marriage, delas Alas still believes that God has a better plan for her. "I think may iba siyang (God) plan for me. Kung ano 'yon, hindi pa natin alam. Basta ang alam ko, mayroon," she said. Currently, delas Alas is busy promoting her film "Kung Fu Divas" with Marian Rivera.

What happened when Kris met Marian

MANILA -- Kris Aquino and Marian Rivera, top stars of rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7, were all smiles when they sat down for the latter's guest appearance on the Kapamilya talent's morning talk show. The actresses, along with comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas, met on Monday to tape episodes of "Kris TV," which will air on Thursday, Friday and next Monday. Rivera's guesting on the program -- her first-ever on ABS-CBN -- is part of the promotional campaign of Onat Diaz-directed film "Kung Fu Divas," which is co-produced by the Kapamilya film arm Star Cinema. In a post on image-sharing service Instagram, Aquino said the episode featuring Rivera and delas Alas will show their "food trip" at Sikatuna Village in Quezon City. Delas Alas and Rivera shared photos of the episode's taping on their respective pages on Instagram. A prized contract artist of GMA-7, Rivera is rarely seen alongside Kapamilya talents and on ABS-CBN programs. "Kung Fu Divas," which opens nationwide on October 2, marks the first time Rivera is starring in an ABS-CBN-backed proejct. The 29-year-old actress, in an earlier interview, expressed excitement with finally collaborating with the Kapamilya network and its stable of talents. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako na may mga ganitong pagkakataon," she said.

No animosity between Angel, Marian

MANILA – Angel Locsin denied rumors of an animosity between her and Marian Rivera, who was once her rival when they were still in the same television network. For the first time, Locsin opened up on what happened when she met Rivera for the shoot of the cover of the September 2013 cover of Rogue Magazine. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Locsin said it was a very pleasant meeting that was meant to happen. “Nakakatuwa na nagkita kami. First time namin magkita after mag-move and all. Sabi ko kailangan naming mag-usap. Tumawa siya tapos sabi niya, ‘Oo nga eh.’ Niyakap ko siya, niyakap niya ako, tawa lang kami ng tawa,” she said. While they really didn’t have issues with each other, Locsin admitted that their relationship somehow became affected because they were always being pitted against each other in the past. “Sa amin, wala kaming issue, wala kaming away. Siguro naging aloof kami sa isa’t isa kasi laging naco-compare. Kahit anong gawin namin, may manlalait sa akin na fan niya, or may manlalait sa kanya na fan ko,” she said. She added: “Wala namang ginawa sa aking masama si Marian. Nung ‘Shop and Share,’ humingi pa ako ng donations sa kanya – mga gowns and bags. Pinuntahan ko siya sa bahay niya.” Proving she really has nothing against the Kapuso actress, Locsin said she is open to working with her in a project when the right time comes. Baka hindi pa naaayon pero wala kaming problema,” she said. Locsin said she is just happy that they were given the chance to bond during the magazine pictorial. Aside from Locsin and Rivera, the cover of Rogue’s September 2013 issue also featured Anne Curtis, Judy Ann Santos and Charlene Gonzales. Wearing pieces from Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter Collection 2013, the ladies were styled by Pam Quiñones for the cover, which was photographed by Mark Nicdao.

What's next for Marian Rivera on ABS-CBN

MANILA -- ABS-CBN viewers will see more of GMA-7 star Marian Rivera in the coming weeks, as the actress gears up for the premiere of her Star Cinema-produced film, "Kung Fu Divas." At the sidelines of a bloggers' conference held Thursday for the action-comedy flick, the 29-year-old actress confirmed she is set to appear in at least one Kapamilya program as part of the movie's promotional campaign. Asked if there is a particular ABS-CBN show she wishes to appear on, Rivera said, "Kahit saan naman pwede, basta papayagan ako ng network ko." A prized contract artist of GMA-7, Rivera made headlines on Wednesday when she visited the ABS-CBN compound to attend a meeting about "Kung Fu Divas," which she co-stars with Ai Ai delas Alas. The Onat Diaz-directed film, which opens on October 2, marks the first team-up of both actresses. This is also the first time Rivera is starring in an ABS-CBN-backed project. The film is a co-production among the two lead stars, Star Cinema, Reality Entertainment, and The O&Co. Picture Factory Inc. On Thursday, Rivera related that her recent visit to ABS-CBN isn't the first time she has been inside the Quezon City headquarters. She recalled being an intern in the human resources division of the Kapamilya network in 2004. Mag-si-xerox, mag-ta-type, so 'yun 'yung na-experience ko," she said, laughing. As to her experience returning to the same ABS-CBN building as a sought-after actress, Rivera said, "Syempre, nakakatuwa dahil ang sarap ng pagtanggap nila, ang babait ng mga tao sa akin dito, so nakakatuwa." Asked if she felt nervous about her visit, the actress added, "Hindi siguro kaba. More on na-excite, more on saya 'yung pakiramdam dahil finally eh makikilala 'yung mga taga-rito." Noting the numerous starring roles of another GMA-7 star, her long-time partner Dingdong Dantes, in Star Cinema projects, Rivera expressed confidence that this won't be her last time collaborating with ABS-CBN. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako na may mga ganitong pagkakataon," she said.

Is Marian Rivera pregnant? Dingdong replies

MANILA – Speculations have been going around online that an actress with the initials “MR” is now pregnant and netizens are wondering if the celebrity in question is Marian Rivera. But her long-time boyfriend, actor Dingdong Dantes, quickly denied this. “Wow, buti pa sila alam nila. Sa pagkakaalam ko naman, hindi [siya buntis],” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News. But if ever a baby comes their way in the future, Dantes said they will welcome the child with open arms. “I think things like that are blessings naman eh,” he said. In a separate interview, Rivera also denied that there is a baby on the way. The actress said she will be the one to announce it in her Instagram account if indeed she gets pregnant. The actress revealed that it is also her dream to have a child one day. "Aaminin kong pinapangarap ko iyan sa buhay ko, pero hindi muna ngayon,” she said. Aside from Rivera, actresses Mariel Rodriguez and Maricar Reyes, who also have the initials "MR," have also denied that they are the female star in question.

What Jessy, Marian, Erich, Carla have in common

MANILA, Philippines -- Actresses Jessy Mendiola, Marian Rivera, Erich Gonzales and Carla Abellana are all primetime stars of their respective TV networks. All four of them have also portrayed iconic roles popularized by Mexican superstar Thalia. Rivera and Abellana played the title characters in the GMA-7 remakes of "MariMar" and "Rosalinda," respectively, while Gonzales became "Maria la del Barrio" in the Kapamilya adaptation of the hit "telenovela." Set to portray the title character in ABS-CBN's upcoming remake of "Maria Mercedes," Mendiola is the latest Filipina actress to channel Thalia's charm in taking on a role she made iconic. Asked what she thinks sets her apart from the previous actresses who followed in Thalia's footsteps, the 20-year-old Kapamilya star instead brought up the differences in the stories of their respective characters. Mendiola nonetheless welcomes the comparisons, saying she has also come to "accept" that not everyone may see her fit to take on her latest role. Noting that she is aware of comparisons to Gonzales and River specifically, Mendiola said, "I guess I’ll just have to accept kung ano 'yung opinion ng ibang tao kasi madami rin naman 'yung nagsasabi na bagay at marami rin nagsasabi na mas bagay si ganito sa ganyan. Ito na po eh. Ako na si Maria Mercedes!" 'Close to heart' In the original Mexican series, Thalia portrays a street urchin whose life takes a turn when she agrees to marry an immensely rich man who is terminally ill. For the Pinoy remake, Mendiola said several changes were made to cater to its target audience's taste. "Maraming changes dito. Same pa rin 'yung basic flow but maraming parang iniba ng konti para ma-adapt siya sa pagiging Pinoy... Parang gusto nila very close sa pagiging Filipino at close din sa akin kasi Waray ako eh," she said. The actress said the role is "close to her heart," citing her similarities with Maria Mercedes. So parehas kami dun sa area na 'yun ni Maria Mercedes," she said. Joining Mendiola in the upcoming Kapamilya series are Jake Cuenca, Jason Abalos, Vina Morales, Dominic Ochoa, Nadia Montenegro and Vivian Velez. It will be directed by Rechie del Carmen.

Marian Rivera not surprised with 'sexiest' tag

MANILA -- Marian Rivera said she had an idea that she would reclaim the "Sexiest Woman" title in the recently concluded FHM polls, pointing to her followers informing her of their voting campaign. The Philippine edition of men's magazine FHM announced Thursday that the 28-year-old actress was voted "The Philippines' Finest" after she garnered a total of 890,490 votes out of the 16 million cast via online, text, and print ballots. Rivera won the same title in 2008, and placed 5th last year in the same poll. Trailing Rivera in the Top 10, in order, are: Sam Pinto, Angel Locsin, Jennylyn Mercado, Cristine Reyes, Solenn Heussaff, Ellen Adarna, Anne Curtis, Jackie Rice, Empress Schuck. Asked Friday if she was surprised with the results, Rivera said, "Ayoko naman sabihin na gulat na gulat ako, pero 'yung totoo kasi 'yung mga fans din kasi ang nag-a-update sa Instagram ko, tina-tag nila ako, so may idea naman din ako sa mga nagaganap." Rivera is referring to her account on the popular image-sharing service, where she has over 190,000 followers. So sa lahat ng bumoto talaga, thank you. Lifestyle change When asked what she considers to be her "edge" over the other personalities voted in the "Sexiest Women" list, Rivera preferred to bring up her total lifestyle change, which she credits for feeling more confident nowadays. Sa ngayon sinasabi ko, I love myself talaga, so nagre-reflect talaga lalo. She said that among her physical activities are the combat sport Muay Thai and the popular dance fitness program Zumba. Along with her fellow "sexiest" winners, Rivera will appear at the FHM 100 Sexiest Victory Party on July 10 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Marian Rivera blamed for Regal Films' absence in MMFF

MANILA, Philippines -- Regal Films matriarch Lily Monteverde is blaming the alleged solo-billing demand of actress Marian Rivera for the film outfit's failure to submit an exclusive entry to 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). This year, Regal Films will be co-producing with Star Cinema and Skylight Films a horror movie starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. The film outfit's annual "Shake, Rattle & Roll" installment, which has been part of the MMFF since 2005, is notably absent from the eight competing entries this year. Monteverde had originally planned to submit a film co-starring Rivera and Kapamilya actress Judy Ann Santos as Regal Films' entry to this year's film festival, according to a report published on the entertainment news site Philippine Entertainment Portal on Wednesday. However, Monteverde said Rivera, who is a contract artist of Regal Films, demanded that she be given a solo-starrer. "Ayaw niya gawin kasi gusto raw niya, solo siya. You know, malungkot din ako kasi wala ako entry. Pero ayaw gawin ni Marian, e," Monteverde was quoted as saying in the report. Responding to Monteverde's statement, Rivera said she has no knowledge of the supposed big-screen team-up with Santos. "Hindi ko alam, e. Si Tatay [Mr. Tony Tuviera], si Ateng [Rams David] na lang ang tanungin mo. Hindi naman ako lang ang nagdi-decide," Rivera was quoted as saying in the same report. Wala akong alam diyan. Ako na naman ang masisisi diyan," she said. Monteverde maintained, however, that Rivera turned down the project, even recalling it happened during a meeting at a coffee shop. "I don't lie. Gusto niya, solo," the veteran film producer said. She added: "How many years na ako sa showbiz, I’m not lying. I’m a cancer patient, and I don’t want to lie. Siya talaga ang tumatanggi." Karylle no longer aloof to Marian Rivera

MANILA – Kapamilya host and singer Karylle is glad that things are now okay between her and actress Marian Rivera. In an interview cited by entertainment website Pep.ph, Karylle said she and Rivera may only have exchanged smiles but it meant a lot for her. I was really happy na we had that moment kahit papaano. It was a simple gesture but, to me, it meant a lot,” she said. Just recently, it was rumored that Dantes and Rivera are already planning of tying the knot in the near future. Asked if she would attend the couple’s wedding if ever invited, Karylle said: “Mahirap naman ang what if. Kahit save the date pa.” Meanwhile, Karylle shrugged off talks of a possible wedding -- this time between her and Yuzon. “Wala naman kaming inaamin, bakit kami magpaplano?” she said before erupting into a laugh.

Marian Rivera leaves manager, says open to network transfer

GMA-7 contract expires in August, says actress MANILA -- Marian Rivera announced on Friday that she has left her manager of seven years, citing the move as imperative to her "freedom" to make career decisions independently. During a press conference held on Friday, the 28-year-old actress said her decision to leave her long-time manager, Popoy Caritativo, is also due to difficulties in their working relationship. Rivera, who is one of the most visible leading ladies of her home network, GMA-7, said her career is now under the management of showbiz veteran Tony Tuviera, who was her manager for a time before she became a talent of Caritativo's firm, Luminary Talent Management. May tampuhan. For seven years, ganoon ang nangyayari," Rivera said. According to the actress, Caritativo openly accepted her decision. "Maluwag naman niyang tinanggap. Sabi niya, 'Rerespetuhin ko ang desisyon mo.'" Admittedly, Rivera said she has been hurting from a supposed misunderstanding between her and Caritativo, which she pointed to as one of the reasons behind her transfer. She refused to divulge details of their alleged misunderstanding. "Medyo masakit kasi ang nangyari sa akin. In time, ako mismo ang makikipag-usap sa kanya. 'Freedom' Her change of management, according to Rivera, will allow her to more freely and independently decide on her career. Asked if she felt limited in terms of career choices under Caritativo's management, Rivera said, "Hindi naman sakal. Under Tuviera's management, Rivera said she is set to negotiate her contract with GMA-7, which will expire in August this year. She added that she is open to the possibility of working under different TV networks. Asked which network she prefers to transfer to, should the opportunity arise, Rivera said, "Sa August po, magkita-kita tayo kung saan ako pupunta."
