Marian has yet to watch Dingdong-Bea film

MANILA – Actress Marian Rivera Rivera admitted that she has yet to find time to watch “She’s The One” starring her boyfriend, actor Dindong Dantes, and Bea Alonzo because of her very hectic schedule. The Star Cinema-produced film has already breached the P100-million mark with just two weeks in theaters nationwide. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Rivera said she has no say about Dantes’ career because it will still be the actor’s decision on what projects to accept -- such as another movie with Alonzo. “Wala naman akong karapatan magsabi ng oo or hindi. Si Dong ang tanungin niyo. Ako naman, bilang kasintahan ng aking nobyo, kung ano ang makakabuti sa career niya, susuportahan ko siya,” she said. Meanwhile, Rivera said she is happy with the outcome of her latest film “Kung Fu Divas,” which was also co-produced by Star Cinema. According to the website Box Office Mojo, Rivera's movie with comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas made P32,772,204 after two weeks in theaters. “Happy kami sa naging resulta. Siyempre ine-expect na mas malaki pa [ang kinita] pero para sa amin, in-enjoy namin 'yung moment. Maganda 'yung quality ng pelikula,” Rivera said. What’s more important, she said, is the friendship that they have developed while shooting the movie. “Hindi kami more on sa magkano ang kinita ng pelikula namin. We’re more on 'yung paano kami nag-bond after and paano kami sa pelikula doon,” she said. “Kung Fu Divas” is Rivera's first movie under Star Cinema, while Dantes has done three for the ABS-CBN film production outfit.

Bea Alonzo shares what she learned from Dingdong Dantes while working on ‘She’s the One’

102013-bea_main.jpg

Bea Alonzo said that working with Dingdong Dantes on She’s the One has taught her essential lessons when it comes to her craft. “Humbling for me na makatrabaho siya because nga he’s here for the longest time, longer than nandito ako sa business na ‘to and you could sense na hindi nga dinadala sa ulo niya. Alam mo na alam niya na this is temporary, this is not forever, na he tries to improve himself all the time, ‘yon ‘yung natutunan ko sa kanya na huwag paparatingin sa ulo and everyday nagpro-promise ka sa sarili mo na i-improve mo ‘yung sarili mo,” she said. On her favorite scene with Dingdong in the movie and the scene that she’s most proud of, Bea shared that it would be the ice cream scene. “’Yung favorite ko ‘yung ice cream scene because sa maliit na eksena ‘yun, hindi namin kailangan mag flashback and it’s because ang dami niyang sinabi and it’s not something na siguro na ii-expect mo na maraming nasasabi. It’s not a dramatic scene, it’s very light, its very simple pero parang siguro sa dalawang artista na magkukuwento sa kanilang actions and how they stare at each other, siguro mahirap siya because papano mo sasabihin sa audience mo na mahal na mahal mong taong ito without telling him that you love him, sa actions lang so ‘yun siguro, ‘yun ‘yung proud ako.” Bea admitted that she could somewhat relate to her character in She’s the One when it comes to being the breadwinner of the family. “Malapit siguro ‘yung character ko sa akin, unang-una ‘yun bang part na she lost her youth parang ganon din ako kasi I have to work early. Pangalawa siguro ‘yung pagiging independent,” she stated. Is she feeling any pressure now? “Sobra, every time na ipro-promote ko ‘to. But siguro ‘yung pressure mas lamang ‘yung excitement. Excited ako na mapanood ninyo at excited akong mapanood ang movie sa big screen kasi meron akong mga eksena na na-skip ko, na ayaw ni direk ipanood sa akin ‘yung mga scene nila Dong, ayaw nilang ipapanood sa akin para matawa ako or ma-touch ako, so ‘yun I’m excited to watch it so you should be excited to watch it too,” she said.

Enrique in 'triangle' with Bea, Dingdong in new film

MANILA -- Enrique Gil said he could not believe that his new big-screen project not only marks his first lead role in a romance film but also features him with box-office stars Bea Alonzo and Dingdong Dantes. A relative neophyte compared to his co-stars in "She's the One," Gil said he felt nervous about headlining a film with established actors. At 21, Gil is also younger than Alonzo by three years, and Dantes by 12 years. "Noong unang sinabi sa akin na makaka-triangle ko sina Bea at si Dingdong, 'What?' Sabi ko, 'Grabe 'to!' Sabi ko, 'Wow, teka lang!'" Gil said during a recent press conference for his ongoing TV series "Muling Buksan ang Puso," which will air its final episode on Friday. Gil said he was particularly nervous about working with Alonzo, who, despite being a fellow Star Magic talent, has been mostly an acquaintance to him. "Actually kahit papaano -- noong una talaga kinakabahan ako -- when I got to the set, nakausap ko si Bea. There's something about her na hindi ka maiilang sa mga eksena," he recalled. "It's the way she talks to you, she approaches you. Parang... Bea Alonzo, walang ilang factor lang sa akin. Kaya siguro, swerte lang ako," he said. As for Dantes, Gil shared they are, in fact, second cousins, "so mas at ease actually." Having already filmed several scenes with Alonzo and Dantes, Gil said he has become more comfortable with his co-stars, "pero syempre 'yung mga eksena, dapat bigay-todo pag kasama si Ms. Bea Alonzo." Love triangle In the first trailer for "She's the One," Gil's character is seen as a love interest to Cat (Alonzo), who has a complicated relationship with her best friend Joaqui (Dantes). In an apparent reunion with a group of friends, Cat and Joaqui's past is brought up with the mention of "tonsil hockey." The pair then proceeds to argue who kissed who at the time. While the two remain friends, Cat is seen forming a close relationship Gil's character. This appears to motivate Joaqui to show his true feelings for his best friend. Directed by Mae Cruz ("24/7 In Love," "Catch Me... I'm in Love") and written by Vanessa Valdez ("Four Sisters and a Wedding," "The Mistress"), "She's the One" will hit theaters nationwide on October 16. The film, which is among producer Star Cinema's 20th anniversary offerings, also marks the first team-up of Alonzo and Dantes. It is also the GMA-7 actor's third ABS-CBN movie after "Segunda Mano" and "One More Try." "She's the One" also stars Maricar Reyes, Liza Soberano, Tony Mabesa, Perla Bautista, Pinky Amador, Guji Lorenzana, RS Francisco, Marc Solis, Erika Padilla, Garlic Garcia, Daniel Matsunaga, LJ Reyes and Coleen Garcia.

Marian gives 100% to boyfriend Dingdong

MANILA – “Kung Fu Divas” actress Marian Rivera believes a person should always give her 100% when loving a partner. In the Monday episode of “KrisTV,” the 29-year-old actress, who is in a relationship with actor Dingdong Dantes, said she lives by this belief, adding that she doesn’t want to regret anything in the future if ever something happens. “Kasi sa trabaho namin bilang artista, hindi puwedeng ‘Ay friends lang tayo, walang commitment.’ Ako bilang babae, ayaw ko ng walang commitment. Naniniwala kasi ako sa kasabihan na kapag mahal mo ang isang tao, dapat binibigay mo 100%,” she said. Rivera said it is only when a person gives his/her all that he/she will feel the true meaning of love. In her past interview, Rivera said she would describe herself as a “sweet” girlfriend. "Sweet ako eh! 'Di ba sinasabi palagi, 'Pag nagmahal ka, 1% kailangan itira mo sa sarili mo, huwag lahat ibibigay mo.' Hindi ako naniniwala sa gano'n eh," she said. "Kasi naniniwala ako na pag totoong mahal mo ang isang tao, hindi mo naman 'yan mapipigilan eh. 'Whoops, 99% na 'yung love ko sa'yo! Kailangan 1%...' Kasi pag mahal ko ang isang tao, ipaglalaban ko 'yan at gagawin ko ang lahat para maging masaya siya," she added." Just like the Dantes, Rivera said she is also the type of person who loves giving gifts to the people she loves. “Hindi sa mahal or sa murang halaga. Sanay ako na sa taong malapit sa puso ko, kaibigan man kita or katrabaho kita, mahilig ako magbigay ng gift. Naniniwala ako na doon sa gift na yun, mapapasaya kita, maliit man or malaki basta ang sa akin, naalala kita,” she explained. Last August, Rivera and Dantes celebrated their birthdays as a couple. Asked what Dantes gave her, she said: “Gift niya 'yung whole trip namin sa Bali.” Rivera, for her part, said she said she gave Dantes a watch which the actor really liked. As to when she and Dantes are planning to tie the knot, Rivera only confirmed they have discussed settling down. But she offered, "We're getting there." "Napag-uusapan namin 'yan, at bilang babae, gusto ko talagang magkaroon ng isang pamilya at maraming anak," she said

Dingdong Dantes in ABS-CBN movie anew

Actor paired with Bea Alonzo for anniversary film MANILA -- Dingdong Dantes feels "fortunate" to be part of the year-long 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN's film production outfit. The 32-year-old actor, who is considered one of the prized leading men of ABS-CBN's rival network GMA-7, is starring in yet another Star Cinema film to mark the third year in a row he has been involved in a high-profile Kapamilya project. "I'm very fortunate that I'm given the opportunity," Dantes told ABS-CBN News shortly after the film's story conference held Friday. Referring to the movie as among Star Cinema's 20th anniversary offerings, the actor added, "Pag gano'n, medyo special talaga 'di ba? And I'm very fortunate na makakasama ako sa ganoong klaseng celebration, even though I wasn't there since day 1. But over the last 2 years, kahit paano." Although largely identified with GMA-7, Dantes has appeared in a number of ABS-CBN projects, including the Metro Manila Film Festival entries "Segunda Mano" and "One More Try." Both produced by Star Cinema, the films scored back-to-back Best Actor trophies for Dantes in 2011 and 2012. New leading lady For his third film with ABS-CBN, Dantes will work for the first time with Bea Alonzo in a story that centers on the pair as best friends. Although the two have previously worked together in fashion shows and, most recently, a magazine shoot, they have never co-starred in an acting project. "I'm extremely happy na finally makakatrabaho ko siya," Dantes said, referring to his fourth Kapamilya leading lady after Kris Aquino in "Seguna Mano," and Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban in "One More Try." Alonzo is likewise excited over her team-up with Dantes. "Ako, I'm excited na finally makakatrabaho ko na siya, kasi alam naman natin na hindi siya everyday nangyayari," she said, before turning to Dantes to add, "I'm very honored na makatrabaho ka." Like her new leading man, Alonzo said she feels grateful to headline a project that is part of Star Cinema's anniversary line-up. "Syempre masaya [ako], kasi alam naman natin na every project, every movie na ginagawa nila for the 20th anniversary, ay maganda. Sinimulan 'yon ng 'Four Sisters,' tapos ngayon may 'Tuhog,' and these movies are doing very well," she said. The actress was referring to the family "dramedy," "Four Sisters and a Wedding," and the black comedy film, "Tuhog," which are still showing in cinemas nationwide. Alonzo is also among the lead cast members of the Cathy Garcia-Molina-directed "Four Sisters and a Wedding," along with Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao and Enchong Dee. No pressure Asked if she feels pressured with the prospect of her latest film -- it being her first team-up with Dantes, and her second Star Cinema anniversary movie -- Alonzo said she prefers to simply "enjoy" the experience of being with a new group of people. "Ako, I don't want to get pressured, lalo na this early. Ang gusto ko lang mag-enjoy habang ginagawa 'tong pelikulang 'to, to get to know this person (Dantes). I just want to have fun doing this movie. "Tapos na ako doon sa nakaka-pressure na movies, hindi ba? Nando'n na 'ko sa 'I want each moment to count,' and to make memories with them, with this group," she said. Agreeing with his new on-screen partner, Dantes added, "I think mag-e-enjoy talaga kami rito. Enjoy, meaning enjoy sa paggawa, and definitely 'yung mga manonood, ay mag-ee-njoy sila sa mapapanood nila. At the same time, maraming mapupulot na mga aral, about relationships, about themselves." By this time a frequent collaborator of Star Cinema, Dantes was asked whether he now considers the film outfit his "family." "I love doing movies, gustung-gusto 'yung mga taong katrabaho ko, and everytime I'm on the set, and everytime na gumagawa ako, I always treasure them. I always treat everyone just like family," he said. The title of the film, as well as its director has yet to be announced.

Dingdong Dantes hits career 'crossroads'

MANILA, Philippines -- Dingdong Dantes said he is praying for discernment in relation to his next big career move, amid speculations that he is set to switch networks. The 32-year-old actor, who is a prized leading man of GMA-7, said he is considering several factors in deciding which path to take as he faces a "crossroad" in his career. Dantes' contract as a talent of his home network will expire in December. Despite being identified with GMA-7, he has appeared in a number of ABS-CBN projects, the most recent being the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture, "One More Try." "In all my decisions naman, I pray hard for them and consult my family, so at the end of the day, kung ano 'yung para sa akin, para sa ikabubuti ko at ikabubuti ng mga taong minamahal ko," he told ABS-CBN News at the sidelines of the recent outdoor concert event Ginuman Fest 2013. He added: "[We continue to work] for us to improve ourselves and to improve other people's lives." Meanwhile, Dantes was also asked for his reaction on the recent exchange of pleasantries between his current partner and former girlfriend -- actress Marian Rivera and singer Karylle, respectively. After three years of being a couple, Dantes and Karylle broke up in September 2008, amid rumors linking the actor to Rivera, his new leading lady at the time. "That's very good news," Dantes said of the chance encounter between Rivera and Karylle, who is now in a relationship with singer Yael Yuzon. "Peace all the way, para sa akin," the actor added. "To begin with, wala namang problema. Wala namang dapat i-celebrate na hindi maganda, so let's always celebrate happines, love and peace."

Dingdong Dantes Opens up to StarStudio in March issue

MANILA, Philippines -- After earning back-to-back recognition for his performances in two Star Cinema movies, actor Dingdong Dantes continues to explore new projects that he wants to co-produce with ABS-CBN's film production outfit.

Just in time with the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, the 32-year-old actor announced his interest in making a film on the life of Benigno Aquino, Jr., whose assassination led to protests that culminated in the historic 1986 event.

"Ninoy Aquino has always fascinated me and inspired me in so many ways, so it's something... it's part of my wishlist," Dantes told ABS-CBN News on Monday.

Dantes said he is open to co-produce the film with Star Cinema, following his two Metro Manila Film Festival Best Actor wins for his roles in two movies produced by ABS-CBN's film production arm -- "Segunda Mano" (2011) and "One More Try" (2012).

"That's very possible... Kung dati naman naisip kong imposible 'yun, I don't think it's impossible anymore. Lahat naman posible, basta may magandang intensyon, magandang proyekto," he said.

"One More Try" Zanjoe, Angelica, Angel and Dingdong's Most Challenging Dramatic Movie

Award-winning stars Angel Locsin, Dingdong Dantes, Zanjoe Marudo, and Angelica Panganiban shared that their latest Star Cinema film “One More Try” is their most challenging dramatic movie to date. The said first-ever modern family drama masterpiece of critically-acclaimed director Ruel S. Bayani will hit theaters nationwide beginning Christmas (December 25), along with other entries in the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“I was mostly excited, unang-una dahil ‘One More Try’ is going to be my first MMFF movie as a director,” said Direk Ruel. “It’s an experience for any director na magkuwento ng isang espesyal na materyal na mapapanood ng maraming tao sa panahon ng Pasko. ‘One More Try’ is the best family movie this festival because it’s a modern family drama na magbibigay inspirasyon, mae-enjoy, at kapupulutan ng aral ng mga tao sa panahon ng Kapaskuhan.

Meanwhile, Angel’s plan to take a short break from doing films failed as soon as she heard about the brave plot of “One More Try” that tackles about a loving single mother Grace (Angel) who is willing to sacrifice everything to save her ill son. “Actually si Direk Ruel talaga ‘yung reason kung bakit ako nag-yes sa pelikulang ‘to. Never pa kami nagkatrabaho pero nabibisita ko siya sa set niya dati nung nasa GMA pa kami noon at marami nga akong naririnig na magagandang bagay tungkol sa kaniya,” shared Angel, who also worked for the first time with Angelica, Zanjoe, and Dingdong. “Halos lahat ng pelikula siguro maki-claim na ‘bago po ‘tong kuwento namin,’ pero totoo talaga. Hindi siya ‘yung another typical infidelity movie. Iba siya! Pamilya ang sentro ng kwento.”

Dingdong Dantes Pens Exclusively: Learning Is a Lifelong Pursuit (PART 2)

(Last of two parts)

I am currently studying BS Technology Management in West Negros University Bacolod, the only school that offers this undergraduate program that combines information technology and business management. I found it difficult at first but, after a few months, I can say that I have adjusted, handling the pressures of both school and work quite well. I look forward to taking up my masters.

Starting at home

My family played a big role in nurturing my passion for learning and then passing it on. I learned discipline from my father, Sixto Z. Dantes, Jr., now 64, a commander at the Philippine Coast Guard Auxilliary.

Even if he had been raised in the military style by my grandfather, a retired general of the Philippine Constabulary, my father’s own parenting style was something more modern—less talk but still full of authority. To this day, I can count on him to give me the answer to practically any question, except about matters of the heart—I guess only because I do not ask.

My mother, Ma. Angelita G. Dantes, now 56, taught me compassion. She has mastered the skill of showering her children with equal love and affection, and helping us deal with our emotions. She has a way of appealing to her children’s conscience that often results in better decisions on our part.

Although I am the eldest of five children—next to me is Ma. Angela Dantes-Aurelio, followed by Ma. Cristina Dantes-Quema, then Jose Angelo Dantes and our youngest, Ma. Victoria Dantes—I seek my siblings’ advice and, more importantly, their inspiration when trying out new things. For instance, since technology evolves faster than my tolerance can cope with it, I am grateful to have Angelo and Vicki around to give me limitless tutorials. And Angelo has convinced me to play basketball again after eight years.

This dedication to learning and excellence that I have cultivated with the help of my family and other people in my immediate circle, led me and some of my friends to put up the YesPinoy Foundation in August 2009. Its goal is to empower the youth through education. “Yes” stands for youth, education and service.

We reach out to disadvantaged youths not only through scholarship grants, but also through alternative learning channels. One of our major projects is ParaPaaralan, a mobile school that hopes to inculcate nationalistic values through arts and technology.

We fund our programs with the help of friends, industry associates, like-minded groups and individuals, and relevant government units.

I know that we can do only so much, so I can encourage others to join and help us go the extra mile. I wish to inspire young people to never give up on their dreams and to always value education, which will give them control of their future.

Passion lives on

During our recent shoot for GMA’s new Station ID, I and fellow Kapuso actors Mikael Daez, Benjamin Alves and Alden Richards got to interact with students, some of whom asked how I prioritized my activities.

I told them, “Kapag gusto may paraan; kapag ayaw may dahilan (Where there’s a will, there’s a way; where there’s resistance, there are only excuses).” These are the very words I live by. I find time for my studies, my work and my advocacy, even if it means going to the firing range or hanging out with friends less often. At the end of the day, it’s all about staying faithful to your goals.

It’s not enough to have a dream; you have to chase it, and chase it real good.

Learning new things doesn’t mean chasing new dreams. It just means you’re probably finding a faster route to get to where you want to be.

It’s not about how much you have achieved, but how much of it has been applied to your life.

As for me, I have not stopped dreaming. I may have realized many of them, but there’s still a lot I can do. Maybe someday I can finally wear a pilot’s coat and wing. Who knows?

Dingdong Dantes Pens Exclusively: Learning Is a Lifelong Pursuit

Inquirer.net. A recent encounter with the mom of a former classmate in Ateneo made me realize how far I had come from those days when her son and I sat in the back row—the noisiest ones in class. Not once did it cross my mind that I would one day become an actor, much less an advocate of learning.

All kids have fantasies. Mine was not so different from those of most other boys: I wanted to be a pilot. Of this, my parents often said, “If you want to fly, you must study well.”

I didn’t fully understand what they meant. School for me was a tedious task, a rite of passage, a requirement (an obligation!) rather than a necessity.

Year after year, my dreams became more complicated as my interests diversified. I wanted to be a soldier, then a filmmaker, then a lawyer, just for starters. Curiously, as the list grew longer, my enthusiasm for education diminished.

I was the poster boy for no work, all play. While I hurdled the demands of school, I was no more than an average student who was simply going through the motions, without the heart for learning.

To my parents’ credit, I was not about to get away with that. They were constantly, patiently pressuring me to step it up and do better. Why? I didn’t bother to know.

In fifth grade, I became class representative to a declamation contest. I felt it was the perfect opportunity to prove to everyone, including myself, that despite having been booted from the honor roll, I could still be an achiever.

Guess what? I lost. I ended up telling myself that doing more than was expected of me in the classroom wasn’t necessary for my personal improvement. I was settling for mediocrity, and I didn’t mind.

Turning point

It wasn’t until early high school that I broke out of this rut.

This was when I joined an all-male dance group called Abztract and stepped into the entertainment industry. Thus, I saw what life had in store for me beyond the four walls of the classroom. I started to earn my own money and eventually paid my own tuition. It wasn’t easy, especially once it dawned on me that I was officially a “working student.”

Soon enough, maturity knocked on my door via a revelation from my parents. Back in my laid-back years, they said, I was actually the “scholar” of many other people aside from them. Those benefactors consistently helped my parents so I could get quality education. I had no idea! This led me to a complete change of heart.

Further, during an activity of Tulong Dunong, a program in Ateneo that exposes its students to the condition of children in poorer communities, I was very moved by those kids’ desire to learn. This ignited in me a slow-burning but deep passion for education and excellence.

New hurdle

I was convinced that I could do something more. That early in my life, I felt it was time to give back.

I went ahead and pursued a career in the field of entertainment—to be exact, in acting and filmmaking. And so came a new hurdle, balancing career and high school.

Aside from my family’s support, it was time management that helped me cope with the demands of my two worlds.

After high school, I went to college in San Beda but returned to Ateneo after two years and enrolled in Interdisciplinary Studies major in Communication Arts and Management. I enjoyed my Film and TV Production subjects most, which proved helpful when I tried out for a directorial job with GMA 7. I got the job and worked on the youth-oriented show, “Kakabakaba.” I was just 23, and still in college.

I am thankful to my professors, including director Yam Laranas, Fr. Nick Cruz, Boots Anson-Roa and Marilou Diaz-Abaya, for helping me appreciate the value of education all the more. I would often come to director Marilou’s class straight from a long shoot and without any sleep. But no matter how tired my body was, an overflowing passion for filmmaking kept me awake.

However, the demands of being an actor soon overwhelmed me and I had to take a leave from school. Then, in November last year, after years of focusing on my advocacy for education and the youth, I decided to finish what I started. I simply could not live with the irony of not practicing what I am preaching.

(On Tuesday: Precious lessons I learned along the way, and which I am sharing with the youth, whom I have chosen to serve.)
