Enrique Gil is not too keen on doing mature roles

After being showered with praises for his performance in the blockbuster film She’s The One, Enrique Gil vowed to give his very best in his next projects, especially now that people are dubbing him as the showbiz’s “next big thing.” “Ewan ko basta I’ll just do my best kapag nakita ng ABS na maybe karapat-dapat talaga ako eh di salamat talaga kasi ibibigay ko talaga ang lahat eh. Thank you,” he promised in an interview during the press conference of his upcoming dance concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum titled King of the Gil held at Sir Boy’s Food Republique on October 22. However, while he appreciates the predictions of She’s the One writers Anton Sta. Maria and Charlene Sawit-Esguerra’s about the path of his career, the young star also touted as “the next ultimate leading man” was not too keen on their second conclusion: that he would be offered more mature roles in the future. It’s hard to go back to [doing roles that are near your age na], hindi eh, so siguro just enjoy muna kasi darating ka sa point na magma-mature ka eh. ‘Pag dumating ka doon, tuloy-tuloy na eh so siguro enjoy the moment muna hangga’t kaya pa,” he explained. So he’s not keen to do mature roles just as yet? “Yes, in a way, siguro it’s also [one way kasi on] how to prolong your career ‘di ba?” he quipped. At 21, and with swagger dance moves to boot, the Cebu-born mestizo has an appeal that crosses a wide age range. Some even consider him as the Channing Tatum of the Philippines. Is it okay for him to be known for his sexy appeal and sexy dance moves like Channing? “Well, siguro oo. I think it’s okay because people enjoy. So whatever they see me, kung ano ang gusto nila okay sa akin,” he replied. Speaking of Channing, the actor is well known for his 2012 comedy-drama-risque film Magic Mike. When asked if he would be open to baring some skin on cam and channel Channing’s stripper role, the Muling Buksan ang Puso star laughed and replied, “Ay hindi ko alam kung papayag ang ABS-CBN doon pero siguro sa future kung pwede, why not?” While he may still be quite far from having a perfectly-chiseled body like Channing’s, Enrique can however boast of having a large and diverse fan base that includes not only women of all ages but also those from the third sex. Is there a conscious effort to be “appealing” to all genders on his part whenever he’s dancing? Enrique said there is none and explained that it’s somehow second nature for him to be the sensual type of guy. So iba ‘yun. Enrique’s dance concert King of the Gil is on Novemer 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with guests Vice Ganda, Angel Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Kim Chiu, Vhong Navarro, Jhong Hilario, Rico Blanco, Gloc-9, Young JV, Arjo Atayde, Ejay Falcon, Arron Villaflor and the G-Force.
