Coco Martin on past gay roles: 'Sobrang proud ako'

MANILA - Coco Martin said he is proud of the numerous gay roles he took up in his past projects, amid intrigues related to scenes in his past films being tagged as a "sex video" of the actor online. "Unang-unang pelikula [ko] 'yun," the 32-year-old actor told ABS-CBN News. Martin's breakthrough role was his portrayal of a masseur in the 2005 independent film, "Masahista," for which he won the Young Critics Circles Best Actor Award. He also nabbed the Gawad Urian Best Supporting Award for his role in another gay-oriented film, "Daybreak." The supposed sex video with his "Daybreak" co-star, Paolo Rivero, has been circulating online, with many people being mislead by the scandalous tag. On the subject of his "love life," Martin was also quick to clarify rumors linking him to his past leading ladies. Martin has been romantically linked with Julia Montes, with whom he co-starred in "Walang Hanggan," and Gretchen Barretto, who made a guest appearance in the recently concluded "Juan dela Cruz." He denied any romance with both actresses. Asked to describe his ideal woman, Martin said, "Hindi ako mahilig sa maganda e. As to his upcoming projects, Martin earlier revealed that a full-length feature of "Juan dela Cruz" is in the works. But the actor said that if given the chance, he would love to go back to independent films.

What Coco Martin wants in a girl

MANILA -- Actor Coco Martin, who is already turning 32 in November, admitted on "Tapatan ni Tunying" on Thursday that he is still single. The "Juan dela Cruz" star said this is mainly because he is still busy with his career and helping his family. Martin, however, said that he is steadily planning for his love life and marriage, except that now wouldn't be the right time. "Oo naman!" Martin told "Tapatan" host Anthony Taberna when asked about marriage. Although he is considered a matinee idol, Martin said he is not the kind of man who likes to court women in public. "Di ako nakikipag-date e. Sa umpisa, siyempre, bibigyan-bigyan mo ng pagkain para may time na magkakilala," he said with a laugh. Asked if he also did this to his leading ladies like Erich Gonzales and Maja Salvador, Martin said: "Oo pero walang malisya." Martin added that if he is to choose, he would prefer to have a non-showbiz girlfriend, knowing that he is a jealous guy. Asked of the qualities he is looking for in girl, the actor said: "Hindi ako mahilig sa maganda e.

Coco wants some 'me time' after 'Juan dela Cruz'

MANILA – Coco Martin is looking forward to having a breather after his top-rating series “Juan dela Cruz” comes to an end in three weeks. After being on air for eight months, Martin thinks it’s about time he spends time with his family whom he misses terribly. This time, 'yung walang makakaistorbo sa inyo,” he told entertainment website Pep.ph. Martin said he also wants to have some “me time” without having to worry about anything. Wala akong naiisip na gusto kong gawin, na gusto kong puntahan, or kahit mag-abroad or what. But despite not having quality time with his family, Martin stressed that he is not complaining about his hectic schedule because he really loves acting. “Sabi ko nga never ko pinagsisihan. Alam kong kasama 'yun sa trabahong ito. Basta ang importante, sa bawat soap opera na ginagawa ko, alam kong napapasaya ko yung mga manonood,” he said. Horror movie with Kris Asked what his future projects are after his short break, the actor said: “Kung gagawa ako ng mainstream movie, gusto ko gumawa ng isang horror movie. Martin said he is also interested in doing an action-drama film which would showcase his forte in acting. Martin’s last movie was “A Moment in Time,” with his "Walang Hanggan" co-star Julia Montes.

Coco is not the father of ex-girlfriend's child

MANILA – Actor Coco Martin prefers to stay silent amid reports finally disputing the years-long allegation that he has a child out of wedlock. "The Buzz" reported on Sunday that a test conducted recently revealed that the "Juan dela Cruz" star is not the father of his former girlfriend's daughter. Napakalalim ng pinagdaanan ko,” he told “The Buzz” in an interview which aired on Sunday. Asked if rumors of having a child ever affected him, the actor said: “Sobra naman, siyempre.” In an interview with entertainment website Pep.ph last month, Martin was asked about the supposed DNA test which revealed that he is not the father of sexy actress Katherine Luna's child. “Ayoko munang pag-usapan 'yun. Pep.ph reported that Luna has been claiming that Martin is the father of her eight-year-old daughter. Luna and Martin became a couple when the actor was just starting out in the movie industry starring in independent films.

'Juan dela Cruz' to air finale on Oct. 25

MANILA -- After airing for almost a year, ABS-CBN top-rating superhero series "Juan dela Cruz" is about to end its successful run. The primetime hit, starring actor Coco Martin in the title role, is now down to its last three weeks with its final episode scheduled to air on October 25, a statement from ABS-CBN released on Thursday said. Martin admitted that “Juan dela Cruz,” which premiered last February, has helped him become a better actor and more responsible Filipino. Apart from his work on the series, Martin was also active in several "Juan Fun School Day" activities, which provided school supplies to the less fortunate students in different parts of the country. Martin also took the opportunity to thank the viewers who loyally watched the show for the past eight months, making it the most-watched primetime series in both urban and rural households nationwide. “Sa loob ng halos isang taon, sinamahan nila si Juan sa bawat pagsubok ng kanyang buhay—mula pagkabata, hanggang sa pagiging Tagabantay at ngayong alam na niya na siya ang Anak ng Dilim,” he said, referring to the evolution of his character in the series. But Martin said viewers still have a lot to watch for in its last three weeks. “Marami pang rebelasyong gugulat sa ating lahat sa last three weeks ng show," he said, hinting that there may be more characters who will die. "Juan dela Cruz" airs weeknights after "TV Patrol" on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.

Coco not jealous of Julia-Enrique love team

MANILA – Actor Coco Martin revealed he is not jealous of the growing closeness between “Muling Buksan ang Puso” lead stars Enrique Gil and Julia Montes. Martin had been vocal about his interest in Montes since they worked together for “Walang Hanggan” and the movie “A Moment in Time.” In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Martin said he is glad that Montes is very busy with work. "Masaya ako para sa kanila, lalong lalo na kay Julia na after ‘Walang Hanggan’ naging successful din ang next project niya," he said. Martin said there is no reason for him to be jealous because he and Montes continue to talk to each other. "Naku hindi [ako nagseselos]. Trabaho iyan eh. Saka hanggan ngayon naman umaasa pa rin ako na magkakasama kami ni Julia ulit sa isang proyekto," he said. While Montes is busy with her own project, Martin said he is also focused on the top-rating series “Juan dela Cruz” and his other activities. On Wednesday, the cast of the fantasy series went to Emilio Jacinto Elementary School in Tondo, Manila for the Juan Fun School Day activity. "Giving back to the viewers, especially to the kids, sa suportang ibinibigay nila sa programa, at balak pa naming dayuhin ang mas malalayo pang eskwelahan," he said For Martin, Juan dela Cruz’s real mission is go out and help Filipino kids.

Coco on Angeline: I love her as a friend

MANILA - "Juan dela Cruz" star Coco Martin finally reacted to the issue that he and singer Angeline Quinto almost had a romantic relationship. Quinto herself admitted in a recent interview that she once had a "special relationship" with Martin, her leading man in the romantic-comedy film "Born to Love You," adding that it did not prosper. The singer has been very vocal about her feelings for the actor. While Martin respects Quinto's statements, he made it clear that he never misled the singer, saying that he was only guiding her on her first acting project. I-respeto mo na lang kung ano man yung dahilan kung bakit sinabi niya yun or kung ano man purpose kung bakit may ganon," he said in an interview with Push.com.ph. Pero 'yung paasa, wala namang ganon," he added. Reacting to Quinto's statement that he got jealous of actor Sam Milby, one of the singer's leading men in the defunct series "Kahit Konting Pagtingin," Martin said: "Wala din namang ganon." The "Juan dela Cruz" star maintained that he loves Quinto as a friend. "Basta alam ko magkaibigan kami at nagkatrabaho kami at mabuti siyang tao. Wala ako masasabi sa kanya. Basta natatandaan ko lang, maganda experience ko sa kanya bilang katrabaho at mahal ko siya bilang kaibigan," he said.

Coco Martin denies being secretly married

'Juan dela Cruz' star wants personal life private MANILA -- "Juan dela Cruz" star Coco Martin addressed speculations about his supposed civil status, which, tabloid reports claim, is reflected in his passport. The 31-year-old actor denied Friday that he was secretly married to a non-showbiz partner in Canada, and that he owns a Canadian passport. Eh, ngayon wala kaming [pag-alis papuntang ibang bansa] dahil lagi kaming nagte-taping," Martin told reporters at the sidelines of the Yahoo! OMG Awards, where he won Actor of the Year. Following questions noted that the supposed wedding happened before he achieved mainstream success. Martin, however, was quick to clarify that he has been staying in the Philippines even during his time as an actor identified with independent films. [Kahit noon] wala. 'Yung passport ko Pilipino." The sought-after leading man mused that the speculations may have stemmed from his being single, despite being linked to numerous female personalities. Martin has been romantically linked to a number of Kapamilya stars, including Sarah Geronimo, Angeline Quinto, Erich Gonzales and Julia Montes. Public figure, private life When he finally finds time to be in a relationship, or have a family of his own, Martin said he would want to keep it private. He noted that as an actor, he has already shared enough of his life with the public. He clarified, however, that the possibility of settling down is still far off, citing his responsibility to his family. Currently one of the most visible stars, and among the most awarded actors of his generation, Martin nonetheless understands the public's curiosity with his personal life. "Artista ako. Part ng work ko 'yun. Ayoko naman pigilan ang mga tao. Basta sabi ko, the more na tahimik ka at wala kang ginagawang masama sa kapwa mo, wala ka dapat ikatakot," he said.

Enchong Dee reacts to Coco Martin’s continuous affection for Julia Montes

“Of course yung pressure hindi mawawala, but I’m really, really excited with all the projects that are happening. I’m always excited kasi parating nabibigyan ng pagkakataon na palaging kakaiba yung ginagawa mo and hindi pa man lumalalabas yung isang buwan eh makakasama na ulit tayo... Kaya I’m just so thankful.” Ibig sabihin, you’re on the right track. So pagpapatuloy ko lang and never stop learning and I will always be grateful for them.” Nakapag-workshop kami, nakapag-usap kami. So now, kapag nasa set kami or kung san man kami magkakasama, madali na yung paguusap namin, kumportable, we can joke around, we can talk anything na walang ilangan.” Dagdag pa ni Enchong tungkol sa kanila ni Julia, “Masaya ako kasi nga parang di ba after all of what happened maayos na kami. So alam mo yun, wala na talaga. I mean, kung anuman yung interpretasyon ng tao, meron kaming sariling relationship ngayon which is which is really really good as friends.” And I think naging vocal naman dati si Coco and there’s no problem with that. I’m really happy na she can go to Coco anytime or she can talk to Coco anytime about anything. And I think we’re both happy wherever we are today.”

Why Coco Martin apologized to Vice Ganda

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Coco Martin made amends with his close friend Vice Ganda during the comedian’s highly successful concert last Friday at the Araneta Coliseum. In a live interview on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Vice Ganda elaborated on Martin’s surprise apology during the concert. “Nagtampuhan kami at naging mag-kagalit talaga kami. …Kasi nag-inarte ako,” he said. Their rift started when Martin declined Vice Ganda’s request to appear on his weekly show “Gandang Gabi Vice” because of his busy schedule. “Valid naman talaga ‘yung mga dahilan,” he said. But when he saw Martin being interviewed on “Bandila,” he said he felt hurt. Days before Friday’s concert, Vice Ganda revealed that he wanted to talk to Martin to iron out their differences to remove “negative vibes” around him. That’s when he found out the actor was hospitalized because of over-fatigue. The comedian said he sent Martin a text message, telling him to get well soon, and Martin quickly texted back. After the concert, Vice Ganda said Martin texted him, telling him that even if they didn’t communicate during his hospitalization, “talagang pupunta talaga ako at mag-so-sorry sa harap ng Araneta.” Vice Ganda also revealed that he originally thought the staff’s big surprise at the concert was his boyfriend, who is more known as “Baby Boy” among viewers of “It’s Showtime” and “Gandang Gabi Vice.” Martin was introduced at the concert as the comedian’s “baby.” “Natakot ako na baka lumabas (ang boyfriend ko) at napilit ng staff,” Vice Ganda said, admitting that his partner was at the Araneta Coliseum at the time.

Coco Martin, Vice Ganda patch things up at concert

'It's Showtime' host turns emotional at Big Dome show MANILA -- Coco Martin and Vice Ganda were not in good terms prior to the actor's surprise appearance at the comedian's sold-out concert on Friday night. But in the latter part of "I-Vice Ganda Mo' Ko sa Araneta," the "Juan dela Cruz" star surprised his long-time friend by emerging from back-stage to shrieks from the 12,000-strong audience at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Vice Ganda was initially at a loss for words when Martin appeared. The 31-year-old actor then proceeded to sing "Pusong Bato," one of the tracks featured in his ongoing prime time series. Shortly after the concert, Vice Ganda, whose real name is Jose Marie Viceral, told reporters that it had been a long time since he last saw Martin, whom he considers a brother. The "It's Showtime" host also related the actor's disapproval of his relationships out of concern. Para kaming magkapatid talaga kasi ni Coco," the comedian said. Record-breaking Aside from Martin, Vice Ganda was also joined on stage on Friday by several other guest stars, including actor Daniel Padilla, Enrique Gil, Paulo Avelino, actress Dawn Zulueta, singer Regine Velasquez and comedienne-actress Ai Ai delas Alas. Taking cue from recent national issues and events, as well as pop culture trends, "I-Vice Ganda Mo 'Ko" saw the comedian-host in themed performances based on the mid-term elections, the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, and the Psy hit "Gentleman," among others. According to ticket distributor Ticketnet, the show now holds the record of being the highest earning concert staged by a local artist. In the closing parts of the show, Vice Ganda turned emotional as he mentioned his personal struggles. No one knows me better than I do. Kung nakikita niyo tumatatawa ako, matapang ako, mekanismo ko lang 'yon, e, kasi kailangan ko maging masaya para maging masaya kayo," he said. After the concert, Vice Ganda nonetheless expressed joy of over the massive success of his third major solo concert since rising to fame in 2009 as a "hurado" on "It's Showtime."

Coco shrugs off supposed rivalry with Enchong

MANILA -- Award-winning actor Coco Martin shrugged off a supposed rivalry between him and fellow Kapamilya star Enchong Dee. In an interview with "The Buzz" after the ABS-CBN Trade Launch event last Tuesday, Martin said people should stop speculating because all is well between them. "Comeptition? Never naman magkakaroon ng comepetition. Actually kaibigan ko si Enchong dahil nakatrabaho ko na siya sa iba't ibang shows at iba't ibang pelikula," he said. The supposed row between the two men started when Martin was tagged as one of the reasons Dee and actress Julia Montes had a falling out late last year. In a separate interview, Dee said he also has no problems with Martin, who also expressed interest in the young actress and was even her escort at her debut party. “Sobra kaming okay ni Coco. Doing well ang ‘Juan dela Cruz.’ Walang [kompetisyon], Coco Martin na iyon eh. Wala naming problema sa amin,” Dee said. This was also echoed by Montes in an interview with "KrisTV" last week. "Okay naman kami [ni Enchong] kasi friends kami ngayon at walang problema," Montes said. Dee and Montes are set to work together again in the upcoming series "Muling Buksan Ang Puso," which will also feature Enrique Gil, Amalia Fuentes, Susan Roces, Dante Rivero, Dominic Ochoa, Daniel Fernando, Malou Crisologo and Pooh. Martin, on the other hand, continues to headline the top-rating primetime series "Juan dela Cruz.

Julia Montes on Coco Martin and Enchong Dee: ‘Pareho silang okay yung ugali’

With her Mid-Summer Night's themed 18th birthday party on March 19, Julia Montes said she is overwhelmed by the grandeur of her upcoming celebration. During her birthday presscon held inside ABS-CBN last March 14, the 17-year-old explained why her voice was hoarse. “Kagabi kasi linabas ko yung kapatid ko, nag-Eastwood kami, may rodeo tapos yung Zorb. Nag-enjoy kaming dalawa. Kaka-eleven years old niya,” she shared. Julia said that there are a lot of preparations that will go into her debut at the Fernwood Gardens where guests are expected to attend in formal attire, with the ladies dressed in pastel-colored cocktail dresses and the men in black and white tuxedos. Julia will be wearing three different gowns created for her by top designer Pepsi Herrera. Julia said that people might be surprised to discover that she is not used to being the center of attention off camera. “Kasi ng character ko talaga kasi bilang Mara, hindi Julia, nahihiya talaga ako sa attention pag nakatingin sa akin yung tao and for sure pag birthday ko na, lahat nakatingin,” she admitted. Now that she's finally of legal age, Julia said she has no expectations especially when it comes to previous statements from her former suitor Enchong Dee. Enchong also declined to attend her party because of a work event scheduled on the same day. Siyempre nasa tao yan, nasa kanila na yun to pursue or hindi so hindi na ako nage-expect,” she said. When asked who has a bigger chance with her if ever they were going to court her, Julia said she would not be able to choose between Coco Martin and Enchong Dee.

Coco Martin says he’s thinking of the perfect gift for Julia Montes’s 18th birthday

As Julia Montes’s 18th birthday nears, her teleserye and big screen partner Coco Martin is equally excited to be her escort for that special occasion. But the actor has yet to decide on the perfect present to give her due to his hectic work schedule. I’m sure may regalo lahat sa kanya. Bahala na kung ano maisip kong ibigay,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph during the recent trade event for his teleserye Juan Dela Cruz.

Coco previously stated that the fact that Julia chose him to be her escort for her debut only means that she has special feelings for him compared to the rest of her male friends. He also told the press that he will wait until she turns 18 before deciding whether to court her or not. But when asked if he plans to pursue Julia when she is of legal age, the multi-awarded actor replied, “Saka na natin pagusapan ‘yan.”

In the meantime, Coco is very happy that his new primetime teleserye ranks number one in the national TV ratings based on Kantar Media-TNS survey. He also gave credit to his co-stars who help spice up the plot of Juan Dela Cruz including guest star Gretchen Barretto. Coco was also all praises for veteran actor Eddie Garcia who’s the latest addition to the show’s cast.

Coco Martin as 'Juan Dela Cruz' TV Series with Erich Gonzales Teaser

"Juan dela Cruz" is among the several new shows lined up for ABS-CBN's TV programming in the first quarter of 2013. It was formally launched at the ABS-CBN Thanksgiving Trade Party on December 5.

In the Kapamilya series, Martin, 31, portrays the latest in the lineage of the "Tagapagbantay." Equipped with a holy cross that can shift into different weapons -- a whip, a spear an arrow, and a sword -- Juan dela Cruz will battle the forces of evil.

The twist: He also bears "aswang" blood.

According to the extended trailer for "Juan" shown last week to advertisers, the new ABS-CBN soap is from the makers of the top-rating series "Walang Hanggan" and "May Bukas Pa."

Like the inspirational 2009 drama series, "Juan" also aims to impart values anchored on faith in God.

In the same extended trailer for "Juan," the character of Mylene Dizon, Amelia, lays out the means to combat the "aswang" blood of Martin's character.

Set for a release in the first quarter of 2013, "Juan dela Cruz" features an all-star cast including Erich Gonzales, Albert Martinez, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Joel Torre, Gina Pareno, Louise Abuel, Lotlot de Leon, Neil Coleta, Arron Villaflor, Jaime Fabregas and Izzy Canillo.
