Cory Monteith's Final Film: Watch the Intense Trailer for McCanick Now

Cory Monteith may be gone, but his legacy lives on in two unreleased projects that he filmed before his unexpected death. One of which is McCanick, which will premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. Photos from the film were released yesterday, but today sees the debut of the first trailer. And it's intense, to say the least. In the film, Monteith plays a drug-addicted criminal named Simon Weeks, who is released from prison only to be hunted down by a narcotics detective who has a secret that only Simon can expose. After Monteith, 31, died of a heroin and alcohol overdose last month, the subject matter of the film hits closer to home than ever. But director Josh C. Waller has said, "[Cory] was very vocal about his past and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn't been able to use as an actor yet." Still, it may be too difficult for many Monteith fans to watch. Cory's other remaining project, All the Wrong Reasons, will also premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. In the Canadian film, Monteith plays a store manager whose wife suffers from PTSD. The movie costars Kevin Zegers, who recently recalled of Monteith's death, "It was a heavy and weird month. Cory was the nicest man I knew." As for Glee, Monteith will be written out of the upcoming season. "The third episode will write Finn out of the show," FOX chief Kevin Reilly recently revealed. "That episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory's passing and the drug abuse in particular."

Cory Monteith's Possessions Moved Out of His Hollywood Apartment—See Exclusive Video

This is perhaps one of the saddest reminders yet that Cory Monteith won't be coming home ever again. Movers were seen Monday clearing out the late Glee star's apartment at the Sunset Vine Tower Residences in Hollywood, where he had a unit on the 12th floor. Three workers pulled up in a Budget moving truck at around 10 a.m. and spent about four and a half hours hauling boxes and furniture, including a desk and chairs, out of Monteith's place. There's no word yet on where the actor's possessions were headed. Monteith died on July 13 of a toxic mixture of heroin and alcohol. His body was found in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver after he missed his 12 p.m. checkout time. A week after returning to the Glee set without him for the first time, an understandably emotional Lea Michele dedicated her win for Choice TV Actress to Monteith last night at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. "For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we're gonna get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart." Costar Naya Rivera also noted the glaring absence on the set, telling E! News on the red carpet, "I would say that something is definitely missing, and you can feel the shift, but I think that everybody's really just leaning on each other and trying to do good work."

Cory Monteith's Mom Tweets About Son's Death, Thanks Fans for "Overwhelming" Support

Cory Monteith's mother wants fans of her late son to know that their kind words have not gone unnoticed. "I would like to thank all of Cory's supporters at this extremely emotional time. Your support has been overwhelming...thank you!" Ann McGregor tweeted yesterday, the first post on her page since January. Also, in response to a number of fans who had tweeted their condolences, including one who wrote, "we can see why Cory was so special, he had a very special mom," McGregor replied, "Sooo special!" world for Cory Monteith She also took the opportunity to set the record straight about who she has—or, more specifically, who she has not—been talking to about her son's death. "The person releasing articles relating to my feelings and thoughts on how to take care of Cory's ashes has never been in contact with me," McGregor also tweeted, adding, "I have never met or spoken to this person. He does not represent me or my wishes." Monteith was reportedly cremated following his death on July 13 from a toxic mixture of heroin and alcohol. While it's unclear if this was the report that McGregor was referring to, a supposed cousin of the actor's told Life & Style last week that Cory's mother planned to "spread some of the ashes in the different places he loved." Meanwhile, before Lea Michele also broke her personal silence via Twitter this week, her rep had said in a statement that she was "grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them. They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together." "Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart," Michele tweeted on Monday. She returned to work yesterday, tweeting, "First day of glee today..And at my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for Season Five! I've missed her so much." The cast of Glee posted an emotional video on the show's YouTube channel today honoring the lost member of their TV family.

Chris Colfer Breaks Silence on Cory Monteith's Death: "Love and Miss You, Buddy"

Chris Colfer has added his own voice to the chorus of Glee stars mourning the death of Cory Monteith. "I'll never forget all the laughs we shared or the faces we made after awkward interview questions," Colfer wrote on Instagram along with a screengrab taken from what must have been one of those awesome Q&A moments. "Love and miss you, buddy." Colfer joins Jane Lynch, Chord Overstreet, Jenna Ushkowitz, Charice and others who have paid public tribute to Monteith, who died July 13 of a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol. Lea Michele has not yet personally addressed her boyfriend's passing, but her camp disclosed that she had joined Monteith's family in mourning, and today she and Glee creator Ryan Murphy headed up a memorial to honor the late actor for members of their showbiz family. It's not immediately known whether Colfer attended. "Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith," Fox said in a statement to E! News. "We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time." Glee's fifth season is expected to start production Aug. 5, a week later than originally planned.

Cory Monteith's Final Role: McCanick Director Says Star Tapped Into Troubled Past to Play Drug Addict—See a Clip

Josh C. Waller says that Cory Monteith didn't outwardly say that it was "a cathartic experience" to play a drug-addicted street hustler in his upcoming film McCanick. "But you could sense it," Waller, who directed Monteith in what turned out to be his final role, told the Los Angeles Times following the sudden death of the 31-year-old Glee star on Saturday. "In my mind, I was envisioning a teeny little drug guy, but Cory Monteith is this tall, strapping man," the filmmaker recalled. "But when I met with him, he wanted to do it so badly...He was very vocal about his past, and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn't been able to use as an actor yet." Monteith has spoken frankly about his battles with substance abuse, and he had just finished a course of rehab in April. "I'm lucky on so many counts—I'm lucky to be alive," he said in Parade last month. When he was a teenager, he would take "anything and everything, as much as possible. I had a serious problem." "I stole a significant amount of money from a family member," Monteith told the magazine. "I knew I was going to get caught but I was so desperate I didn't care. It was a cry for help. I was confronted and I said, 'Yeah, it was me.' It was the first honorable, truthful thing that had come out of my mouth in years." No wonder Monteith felt he had a unique perspective to bring to McCanick. Moreover, Waller said, the young actor was getting ready for a life beyond Glee, on which he had played jock and New Directions superstar Finn Hudson for four years. "He was like, 'I know I can't be on that show forever, so I'm starting to prep myself for when it's not on anymore,'" Waller said. "With McCanick, he was starting that trajectory—like, 'Let me nip this in the bud right now.'" Monteith was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver. An autopsy was scheduled for today and results of a toxicology screening should be forthcoming later this week, according to officials, who said that they were fast-tracking the postmortem investigation due to "intense public interest" in the case. "He was so down to earth, open, honest and vulnerable," Gia Milani, who directed Monteith in All the Wrong Reasons before he went to shoot McCanick, also told the L.A. Times yesterday. "I was impressed with Cory's ability to embody my flawed character, and I am fiercely proud of Cory's performance," she said, noting that they watched the finished project together just a few weeks ago. "I am grateful I got to see him then. It doesn't feel real that he's gone."

Cory Monteith Death: Glee Star's Autopsy on Fast Track "Due to the Intense Public Interest"

The cause of death for Cory Monteith will be announced sooner than usual. A Vancouver Police Dept. source tells E! News that the Glee star's case has been put on the fast track and the results of the autopsy will be revealed early this week. "Due to the intense public interest, the toxicology will be expedited," says the source, adding that the results are expected to come in "in 2 or 3 days." A spokesman for the Vancouver Police Dept. couldn't confirm exactly what day the autopsy results would be disclosed, but did confirm that Monteith's body is currently at the city morgue. Additionally, E! News learns that they have talked to the late actor's family about what they will do with the body after the autopsy is completed. Acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LaPard confirmed that Monteith was found dead at the Fairmont Pacific Hotel after missing his check-out time on Saturday. According to LaPard, there were no indications of foul play and they are not discussing what was found in the room. The cause of death was not immediately apparent. A rep for Monteith tells E! News: "We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss." Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."
