MANILA – Singer Charice expressed her deepest condolences for all the loved ones of “Glee” star Cory Monteith, who are now grieving for his loss.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News shortly after the news broke out on Sunday (Manila time), Charice said she was surprised when she learned about Monteith’s death.
“Hindi ko ine-expect na ganun. Hindi ko ine-expect na ganito kaaga. Unexpected talaga. Kanina nga sinasabi ko, life is too short talaga kaya huwag sasayangin,” she said.
Charice, who appeared as Sunshine Corazon on “Glee” season 2, said she knows Monteith as a nice guy.
“Nung nakasama ko siya, kahit na sobrang close na nila nung grupo, kalmado lang ang dating niya. Good boy, sobrang mabait kaya kumbaga isa na naman ito sa masasabi mong kinuha ni Lord na mabait,” she said.
The 21-year-old singer also sent her sympathies for actress Lea Michele.
“For Lea Michele, I just want to say sorry. I know she’s a very nice person and I know it’s very very hard for her right now. The only thing that I can do for her and his family is to pray,” she said.
Charice added: “Nalulungkot ako para sa mga taong malapit sa kanya, kay Lea. SIguro let’s just all pray for his soul and I hope na at least kahit paano, hindi na siya mahihirapan.”
Monteith and Michele have been dating for quite a while.
Monteith was found dead on Saturday at the Pacific Rim Hotel in the downtown section of the city, Vancouver Police Department acting chief Doug LePard told a news conference.
Authorities said the cause of death was not immediately apparent but that there were no signs of foul play.
Monteith was born in Calgary, in Alberta province, but grew up in Victoria, on Canada's west coast close to the US border and Vancouver, according to his IMDB profile.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
