Daniel Padilla reveals some of his plans to help victims of Typhoon Yolanda

111413-Daniel_Main.jpg

After three days of not having any contact with his relatives in Super Typhoon Yolanda-ravaged Tacloban, Daniel Padilla was only too happy to learn that his grandmother and other relatives had been located and were safe. “Oo pero ngayon okay na. Susunduin na sila ni mama at on the way na sila pabalik ng aming bahay,” Daniel shared during an interview with the press after the fashion show organized by SM Accessories where he, along with Julia Barretto, Enrique Gil, and Kathryn Bernardo were launched as the new teen royalties style ambassadors on Tuesday at the Megatent in Libis. According to Daniel, those three days that they had no way of knowing whether their grandma or their other relatives were safe had been agonizing. Thankfully though, they were finally able to reach his lola. With the monstrous Super Typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) leaving behind a huge path of death and destruction in the Visayas region, stars quickly mobilized their resources and came up with their own unique ways of raising funds to aid the storm’s victims. While some are auctioning their used items or selling them in garage sales, others are making use of their talents to take part in various kinds of fundraising concerts, Daniel shared that they are quietly doing their part to help in their own home. Kailangan talaga ‘yung tulong eh tapos siyempre kababayan eh. Lahat naman tayo dito magkakapamilya,” underscored the 18-year-old star. What does he think is the greatest lesson that the Filipinos can take from Yolanda’s wrath? “Siguro ‘yung pagiging [positibo] at walang sukuan at ‘yung [pag]kapit sa Diyos,” Daniel swiftly replied. As one of the most idolized teens of today, Daniel said that being young is not an excuse not to help. “Wala naman sa edad eh. Walang tanda-tanda pagdating sa pagtulong, lahat tayo pare-pareho lang depende lang ‘yon kung paano ka tutulong,” he said. According to earlier reports, Daniel said that he will personally visit Leyte soon and organize a concert for the benefit of the typhoon victims.

Karla Estrada readies son Daniel for other love team

111113-Kathniel-push2-main.jpg

With their cult following both online and offline, KathNiel composed of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla is undoubtedly one of the most bankable love teams of this generation. Despite this, Daniel Padilla’s mother actress Karla Estrada has still geared her son up for the possibility of being paired with a different actress in the future. Of late, Julia Barretto, the youngest Barretto in showbiz, is the one being associated to the Teen King after rumors of the latter visiting the former on the set of her upcoming soap Mira Bella went around. [Sabi niya] ‘Hindi natin ‘yan mapipilit Ma, pero kung trabaho ‘yan okay,‘” she quoted the Got To Believe star as saying during her appearance on Buzz ng Bayan on Sunday. After her declaration, she then went on to address the very active and avid legion of fans of her son. Kasi ngayon nangangaral ako eh,” she told them. For her part, Julia, who was also a guest on the same Buzz ng Bayan episode, clarified that the rumors about her and Daniel weren’t true. Kasi apparently ‘yung mga tao ng Mira Bella, same production ng [dati nilang show, ‘yung] Growing Up, so kilala niya. Pinuntahan niya ‘yung mga EPs, si Direk Jerome pero wala po ako no’n,” she explained. But what if, she would be tasked to be part of a love triangle with with KathNiel? “If ever that happens, well work is work. Trabaho lamang, ayaw kong masira ang love team,” she quipped. With Karla on the show’s episode as well as Kathryn’s mother, Mommy Min Bernardo, the two mothers were naturally asked as to the true status of their children’s relationship. Mommy Min, echoed KathNiel’s previous revelation that they are yet to be officially a couple but that they have a “mutual understanding.” But what if this mutual understanding blossoms into a serious relationship? “Sana ‘wag muna kasi bata pa, pero kung hindi mapipigilan okay naman si Daniel sa akin,” said the 17-year-old actress’s mother. While Karla surmises that the Teen King and Queen won’t rush into anything because they both have huge dreams and bright future ahead of them. “‘Yun naman ang nakikita namin. Sobrang nakakatuwa ‘yung dalawa kasi talagang nagku-kwentuhan sila ng mga pangarap nila together and not for themselves, pati sa amin, sa pamilya. At may malinaw sakanila na laging uunahin natin ang pamilya,” she said.

Mom thrilled over Daniel Padilla’s WMA nominations

MANILA – Actress Karla Estrada expressed her excitement over the latest achievements of her son, singer-actor Daniel Padilla. Padilla, who is known for his hit song “Nasa ‘Yo na Ang Lahat,” has been nominated as World’s Best Male Artist, World’s Best Live Act and World’s Best Entertainer of the Year in this year’s World Music Awards, which “honors the best-selling recording artists from every continent.” He is now up against big recording artists like Justin Bieber, Psy and Elton John. “Nakakatuwa, bongga ‘yon. Bonggang pasabog! I am so proud and, of course, first reaction eh shocked talaga ako. And I’m very proud kasi Filipino. Ang bongga, ‘di ba?” Estrada said. She went on to ask her son’s fans to help him win in the World Music Awards, which is based on online votes. “Todo suporta na, kasi eto na ‘yon. Dito magkakaalaman na ang tibay ng suporta ng KathNiels,” Estrada said, referring to Padilla’s “love team” with his rumored girlfriend, actress Kathryn Bernardo. Meanwhile, Estrada once again praised Padilla for his singing talent. Hindi matatawaran dahil nag-umpisa ako as a singer so may pinagmanahan. I should know na mayroon, belter kasi ang kapatid, si Carlito, talagang mang-aawit. Si DJ naging full package but he can sing, ‘yun ang importante,” he said. Padilla’s debut album reached platinum-record status only three months after its release. The “Got to Believe” star released his second album early this year.

'Got to Believe' says sorry for telecast glitch

Primetime series halts Friday broadcast, to re-air episode MANILA -- "Got to Believe" fans took to Twitter to vent their anger Friday night after the blockbuster primetime series failed to air the scheduled episode in its entirety due to technical difficulties. The September 27 telecast of "Got to Believe," which was to feature Joaquin (Daniel Padilla) and Chichay's (Kathryn Bernardo) first day attending the same school, aired a full segment before reaching its first commercial gap. The show failed to resume, however, with the commercial gap extending for about 30 minutes before leading in to "Muling Buksan ang Puso," the drama series that airs after "Got to Believe." During the telecast of "Muling Buksan ang Puso," a programming advisory appeared on screen, announcing that the September 27 episode of "Got to Believe" will be aired in full on Monday, September 30. The advisory read: "Dahil sa technical difficulties, sa Lunes na mapapanood ang buong episode ng 'Got to Believe.'" On Twitter, the official account of the ABS-CBN program reiterated the advisory flashed on TV, and apologized for the interrupted telecast. The tweet came a full hour after fans of the show expressed their disappointment on the micro-blogging site, which pushed the hashtags "GottoBelive" and "G2BFirstDayHigh" to the top trending topics locally, ranking No. 1 at different times. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, "Got to Believe" airs weeknights after "Juan dela Cruz" during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.

How Cathy Garcia-Molina is tackling 'Kathniel' tandem

MANILA -- With "teen royalties" in the lead roles and a box-office film director "specializing" in romantic-comedies at the helm, ABS-CBN's upcoming series "Got to Believe" appears to have all the makings of a primetime hit. As early as its first announcement in June, the new "kilig-serye" prominently tagged in its promotions Cathy Garcia-Molina as director. Even its title card features her name. For her first TV project in five years, Molina is directing arguably the most popular "love team" of their generation, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, in their second TV series as lead stars. In "Got to Believe," the on-screen couple portray childhood friends from different backgrounds -- Chichay (Bernardo) is a girl with big dreams for her tight-knit family, while Joaquin (Padilla) is a rich but lonely boy with parents on the verge of separating. While they become close as kids, the two part ways when Joaquin is hit by a stray bullet to the head. But as fate would have it, the two as teens literally bump into each other at the same place they first met. During the grand press conference for "Got to Believe" held recently, Molina admitted having "no knowledge" of the tandem referred to as "Kathniel" by their fans, and so had little clue as to how to harness the pair's potential for "kilig." 'Organic' approach In recent years, Molina has become known as a "box-office director" for the juggernaut successes of romantic films like "One More Chance," "My Amnesia Girl," "Unofficially Yours," and the trilogy of movies starring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo. At the time Bernardo and Padilla's "Princess and I" was airing in early 2013, Molina pointed out that she was still filming "It Takes a Man and a Woman," in explaining why she has little awarness about the "Kathniel" tandem. Director Cathy Garcia-Molina (foreground, in stripes) works for the first time with Daniel Padilla (on screen, in black) and Kathryn Bernardo (not in photo) in 'Got to Believe.' Photo from the series' official Facebook page "Please don't take this negatively. The director added, however, that this may be to her advantage, "kasi ang libre ko na gawin kahit ano." She went on to explain her "organic" approach in directing her actors, saying she observes the natural interaction between them off-camera and translates this on-screen without compromising the script. "What I see on the set, I'll make do with what is there. I will just enhance it. Kung ano ang script na naibigay ng creative, nagdadagdag lang ako ng kaunting akin," she said. Addressing the likely comparison between her lead stars' characters in "Princess and I" and "Got to Believe," Molina continued, "Always, naniniwala ako, ibang tao, ibang klaseng kilig. Ibang characters, ibang kwento, so I don't think it will ever be the same." "Maybe paminsan-minsan, pero Daniel and Kathryn, Mikay and Gino are very different from Chichay and Joaquin. So defniitely, it will be a different kind of kilig," she said. Molina is an expert of sorts in bringing "kilig" on-screen, as the director herself pointed out in expressing her excitement with helming a romantic-comedy series. "Ito, medyo turf ko 'to, eh, rom-com. Natutuwa ako na isalin sa telebisyon 'yung rom-com feel na medyo alam ko ginagalawan ko, so excited ako," she said. Measuring 'success' Asked if she feels pressured about making "Got to Believe" a ratings success, considering her string of accomplishments as a movie director, Molina laughed as she related she had entertained thoughts of ending her career on a high note. 'Got To Believe' director Cathy Garcia-Molina. Photo: Handout "'Diba naman po, sa industriyang ito, you are only as good as your last, so no matter how many films I have done na medyo tinangkilik ninyo, lagi akong takot. So syempre takot ako. I'm nearing 42. Ayoko sanang mag-retire, but if one project fails, baka hindi niyo na ako makita uli," she said. "So that fear is always there," she said. Admitting box-office draw and TV viewership are factors in measuring her own success as a director, Molina said she earns greater satisfaction when her works are appreciated not by the number they turn in, but by their emotional impact on the audience. Kasi minsan 'diba hindi nagta-transalte 'yung good feedback to numbers, so ako, okay lang na hindi masyado mag-translate, for as long as very positive yung feedback. 'Direk, 'yung sakit ko nawawala, you alleviate my pain.' "It's never commensurate to box-office returns," she said. Joining Bernardo and Padilla in the cast of "Got to Believe" are Carmina Villaroel, Ian Veneracion, Manilyn Reynes and Benjie Paras. The series will premiere on August 26, Monday, after "Juan dela Cruz" during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.

Why the Kathryn-Daniel love team clicks

MANILA – Teen stars Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo believe their contradicting personalities is a key factor to their successful onscreen partnership. In an interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, the two agreed that they are quite different from each other and that this helped boost their love team. Kaya parang dahil sobrang magkaiba, nagiging compatible na,” said Padilla. As for Bernardo, she said: “Kasi marami talaga kaming difference ni DJ, sa damit and sa ugali. Having been paired with each other for three years now, both said they are still overwhelmed by the success of their partnership. Thus, Bernardo said she is extremely grateful because they have been given the chance to grow with each other. Nag-grow kaming dalawa. 'Yung KathNiel noon, hindi naman laro pero hindi pa kami ganoon ka-focused,” she said. Asked why he likes working with Bernardo, Padilla said: “Kasi parang katrabaho mo 'yung kaibigan mo na lang. Parang kunyari kaibigan mong lalaki, tapos nagtrabaho kayong sabay. Back in February, Padilla revealed that he and Bernardo already have a “mutual understanding.” Asked if this has prospered through time, Bernardo said: “Nandito kami sa stage na ine-enjoy namin ang isa’t siya. Maybe 7 or 7.5 [in a scale of 1 to 10] kasi kapag sinabi kong 9, siguro kapag ikakasal age. Kapag 8, kapag kami na. So 7 kasi ine-enjoy pa namin isa’t isa.” Bernardo said she enjoys being with Padilla too and she is willing to discover new things with the actor. Bernardo and Padilla will be seen on primetime television anew with their newest series “Got To Believe” set to air its pilot episode on Monday.

Mom denies Daniel Padilla swell-headed

MANILA -- Karla Estrada insists that her son, teen heartthrob Daniel Padilla, has not changed. Contrary to reports that fame has gotten to Padilla's head, Estrada stressed that her son has even changed for the better. "Yung ugali hindi, 'yun na 'yon. Mas naging responsable siya ngayon," Estrada told host Kris Aquino in Thursday's episode of "KrisTV." Perhaps the one change that Estrada is not thrilled about has to do with her son's health. "Mayroon ding hindi maganda, 'yung hindi maganda 'yung puyat," she said. Currently, Padilla is busy with his upcoming series "Got To Believe" with leading lady Kathryn Bernardo. The two teen stars are also preparing for a new movie for this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

Daniel Padilla is showbiz’s ‘It’ boy in this month’s issue of Chalk Magazine

Daniel Padilla graces the cover of the 13th anniversary issue of ABS-CBN Publishing’s Chalk magazine and is dubbed the “Teenage Dream.” The 18-year-old actor talked to Chalk’s Elaine Carag about how he still maintains a mysterious air despite being one of the Kapamilya network’s hottest teen idols today. “Mas natutuwa pa nga ako pag nagugulat yung mga tao dahil may mga bagay pa na hindi nila alam tungkol sa akin,” he shared with Chalk. The teen star, who is currently working on his upcoming Primetime Bida series Got to Believe also admitted in the interview how he decided to be patient during his slow rise in showbiz via the teen-oriented show Growing Up. Kaya nung dumating na, okay na talaga ako,” he shared The cover story of Chalk’s August issue features DJ in 16 pages just for the mag’s 13th anniversary. DJ’s reel-and-real life sweetheart and Got to Believe co-star Kathryn Bernardo also shared how she and DJ started getting close and weighs in on what makes DJ different from all the other guys in her life (as told in a separate article). Saan nanggaling yung spark? Ewan ko. Siguro naturally na lang talaga siyang lumalabas kasi madali namang ka-trabaho si DJ and maalaga siya as a love team partner,” she told Chalk. Kathryn said having good chemistry on and off camera also helped make their partnership a success. “So feeling ko kaya kami nag-click ni DJ kasi nga off-cam din good friends naman talaga kami. Parang super friends, super close friends or best friends, ganyan na kami,” she admitted.

Daniel Padilla says he’d rather be called the jealous type than someone who doesn’t care

Currently busy taping for his upcoming teleserye Got To Believe with co-star and real-life ladylove Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla admitted that they are too young and too busy for any serious romantic commitment. Basta't hanggang gusto tayo ng tao,” he shared. The couple dubbed as “Kathniel” admitted earlier this year that they are already mag-”MU” or have a mutual understanding. DJ said there is nothing more to admit than that even though their fans speculate that they are already boyfriend-girlfriend. Alam niyo namang bawal pa,” he added. DJ said he would not consider courting any other girl anymore. “Mukha bang meron? Wala. The 18-year-old actor said he also expects other guys to be respectful in acknowledging his relationship status with Kath. When the media asked him what he would do if Kath had a suitor, DJ looked offended at the thought. When asked about rumors saying he is the jealous type, DJ said he would rather be accused of that than look like he does not care very much about his love team partner. “Anong mas gusto niyo, yung nasasakal kayo or walang pakialam sa inyo? The Got To Believe star said he does not dictate or meddle in any decision Kathryn makes. When it comes to his mom Karla Estrada, DJ said he is not possessive at all. Ako ay anak lamang,” he said. Because of his rising popularity, DJ admitted his mom has also had to deal with her share of intrigues as well but he is not worried about it. (laughs),” he said. The singer-actor said he will not mind if his mom decides to have a love life and maybe even get married in the future “Hangga’t masaya nanay ko okay lang. Basta hindi siya sinasaktan. Desisyon niya yun. Dapat sigurado na siya na yun na nga yun kasi mahirap yun,” he said.

ABS-CBN postpones Kathryn-Daniel soap

MANILA -- ABS-CBN has postponed the airing of the newest soap of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, but not because it is disappointed with the program. He maintained that ABS-CBN "is just as excited as the viewing public for the airing of 'Got to Believe.'" Below is Osorio's full statement released on Friday: "The management of ABS-CBN is just as excited as the viewing public for the airing of 'Got To Believe.' In as much as management wants to air it, it has decided to postpone the airing until enough episodes are canned. ABS-CBN firmly believes that "Got To Believe" will offer a new experience to TV viewers and looks forward to airing it soon." Daniel Padilla: 'Hindi ako lasenggero'

MANILA, Philippines -- Young actor Daniel Padilla denied that he was drunk during a performance at a private event. Bakit ko naman gagawin yon?" he said during the launch of his newest endorsement on Tuesday. Asked of the reaction of his mother, Karla Estrada, on such reports, Padilla said: "Hindi naman [nagagalit si mama]. Pareho kami, parang wala kaming pakialam. The actor, who has also successfully branched out into singing, said that unlike other artists, he does not need the help of alcohol to perform. Fan throws bra In the interview, Padilla also reacted to reports that a fan threw her bra at him while he was performing. Wala akong ginawa, hindi ko naman kinuha," he said. As a professional artist, Padilla said he just have to ignore the wild acts of some of the fans. Padilla is now busy working on ABS-CBN's upcoming series "Got To Believe" with leading lady Kathryn Bernardo. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, the series is set to premiere this month

Kathryn, Daniel find 'magic' in 'Got to Believe' trailer

MANILA, Philippines -- Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla return with their second major team-up on television as a simple girl with big dreams and a rich boy from a broken family. Aired Friday during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block, the first trailer for "Got to Believe" traces the childhood of the characters portrayed by the well-loved tandem dubbed "Kathniel" by their fans. As children, Chichay (Bernardo) and Joaquin (Padilla) form an unlikely friendship when he stumbles upon a circus where the high-spirited girl works along with her parents (Manilyn Reynes, Benjie Paras). Coming from a family caught in conflict, with parents (Carmina Villaroel, Ian Veneracion) on the verge of separation, Joaquin finds comfort and happiness in Chichay's world. The children's relationship grows with their shared fascination for "magic," as progress seems made between Joaquin's parents when they arrive together at the circus seemingly at Chichay's will. Tragedy strikes, however, when a stray bullet hits Joaquin in the head amid high spirits during New Year festivities. While the boy survives, he grows up to live with the bullet not removed from the "silent spot" it was lodged in. The accident cuts short the friendship between Chichay and Joaquin, but as fate would have it, the two, as teenagers, literally bump into each other at the same place they first met. Set for a July premiere, "Got To Believe" will be part of a Primetime Bida line-up alongside the Judy Ann Santos comeback soap "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," the Coco Martin-starrer "Juan dela Cruz," and another upcoming series starring Julia Montes, "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala." The two new programs are expected to replace the Angelica Panganiban drama "Apoy sa Dagat" and the South Korean series "Missing You," which are both on their last week on air. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina ("One More Chance," "It Takes a Man and a Woman"), "Got to Believe" is seen as the follow-up to Padilla and Bernardo's first "teleserye" success as a tandem, "Princess and I."

Madami pa tayong araw, panahon,” he said. Aside from his upcoming movie, he and Bernardo are also slated to star in another primetime series titled “Got to Believe.” Asked who among the Kapamilya stars he wants to work with, Padilla said: “Hindi naman ako namimili ng artista.

Daniel Padilla shares how he overcame challenges in his life

Daniel Padilla said he is enjoying his continued success as one of the fastest rising stars of the Kapamilya network. After the hit Primetime Bida series Princess and I, he went on to star in the Star Cinema teen flick Must Be Love and is currently preparing for his first major concert, Daniel LIVE: The Birthday Concert on April 30 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. “Masaya talaga, sobrang saya. The 17-year-old actor-musician said that never in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine he would become this popular in showbiz. DJ said he is not bothered by rumors that he is now the breadwinner of his family. “Actually naghirap kami before. DJ said these challenges have even brought his family closer. As one of the most in demand teen stars today, DJ said he has not had much time to do the things he used to do before he became a celebrity. One of the things he enjoyed doing with friends before was using public transportation. DJ said one of the biggest sacrifices he has made for his career was to give up his schooling. Nung nag-start na ako sa Growing Up fourth year high school na ako,” he said. After finishing promoting his movie with Kathryn Bernardo and prepping for his birthday event, DJ said he plans on enjoying spending more time with friends until next month when he starts work on his new teleserye with Kath. “Medyo ngayon maluwag ako eh kaya nakaka-alis alis din ako. Baka next next week mag-Subic ako kasama mga kaibigan,” he said.

Daniel Padilla picks acting over singing

MANILA, Philippines -- Although he is set to stage his first major concert at Araneta Coliseum and a hit album to boot, young actor Daniel Padilla admitted that he still prefers acting to singing. In a press conference for his birthday concert set on April 30 at the Big Dome, Padilla said he is still more confident with acting. The young actor, who scored a hit with "Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat," admitted that it's a big challenge to mount a concert, which he said is really for his fans. Sobrang laking challenge nito, sobra kahit kanino," he said. To prepare for the concert, Padilla said he is now taking voice lessons.
