Angel Locsin hopes relief goods will go to right people

MANILA – Angel Locsin, who has been identified as an active volunteer of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), expressed concern on Wednesday over relief operations for the victims of “Yolanda,” the super typhoon which battered central Philippines last Friday. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Locsin said she is worried that some relief goods might not go to the right people. “Sana huwag abusuhin ng mga tao. Naiintindihan ko na siyempre may nagugutom, pero sana 'yung mga binibigay, makakarating talaga sa mga dapat na paratingan, sa mga nangangailangan talaga, kung saan talaga dapat mapunta ang budget talaga,” she said. Nonetheless, Locsin said she will continue to help the PRC in repacking goods that will be sent to the affected areas. Asked if she also gets exhausted, Locsin said: “Hindi ako napapagod, actually masaya. Dito kasi sa ginagawa nating volunteerism, makaka-meet ka ng bagong kaibigan. Kapag dito ka with your friends, parang nagiging stronger yung bonding niyo. Enjoy, hindi ako masyado nakakaramdam ng pagod dito.” Locsin said she is in no position to complain because what the people in Visayas are going through is much worse. “Dito masaya. Alam mo kasing makakatulong ka. Itong pagod dito, wala sa kalingkingan ng nararamdaman ng mga kababayan natin sa Visayas so para talaga ito sa kanila,” she said. Various photos of Locsin wearing a red PRC vest, as posted by other volunteers and by the organization itself, made the rounds online on Wednesday. In one photo, the actress is credited for referring an online retail company to PRC for its donations. PRC on its Twitter page Wednesday also thanked Locsin for tapping a fastfood chain she endorses to sponsor the dinner of the re-packing volunteers.

MANILA -- Angel Locsin is playing a key role in the relief efforts of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for the victims of super typhoon "Yolanda" (international name Haiyan), as photos of her taking part in various charitable activities circulated online Wednesday. The 28-year-old actress, who is known to be an active volunteer of PRC, is said to be one of the team leaders of the organization's relief operations. A photo of Locsin packing goods for typhoon victims, along with a number of volunteers, was re-posted by the PRC on its official Twitter page. Its caption said the actress led the group in the activity. On a Facebook fan page dedicated to Locsin, a photo showing the actress interacting with another set of PRC volunteers was posted Wednesday. According to its accompanying caption, Locsin was orienting them on taking part in the relief efforts. As of writing, the photo already had over 42,000 likes, over 390 shares, and over 700 comments. Various photos of Locsin wearing a red PRC vest, as posted by other volunteers and by the organization itself, also made the rounds online. In one photo, the actress is credited for referring an online retail company to PRC for its donations. PRC on its Twitter page Wednesday also thanked Locsin for tapping a fastfood chain she endorses to sponsor the dinner of the re-packing volunteers. Car up for auction Locsin earlier made headlines when she was identified to be the owner of a vintage car up for auction to benefit ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya, which is also heading a massive relief drive. According to Sagip Kapamilya program director Tina Monzon-Palma, the actress had asked for the donation to be kept secret. However, a number of local automotive websites were able to track Locsin as the owner of the car, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, and reported it. Monzon-Palma noted that "vintage car aficionados" are apparently able to identify which ones own a certain vehicle within their vicinity. The price of the vintage car model, based on listings on various online buy-and-sell websites, ranges from $65,000 to $89,000 (roughly P2.8 million to P3.7 million). Speaking with "Kris TV" on Tuesday, Monzon-Palma then confirmed that it was Locsin who brought the vintage car to Sagip Kapamilya last Sunday to have it auctioned. "Sinabi niya na, 'Para sa inyo 'yan, sa Sagip Kapamilya.'" As of Wednesday morning, the death toll due to "Yolanda" has already reached 2,275, according to the national disaster management council. An estimated 11.3 million have been affected, with 673,000 left homeless, since "Yolanda" -- said to be one of the most powerful typhoons recorded -- battered parts of Visayas on Friday.

Angel Locsin auctions vintage car for 'Yolanda' victims

MANILA - Actress Angel Locsin, who has been very busy supporting the Philippine Red Cross in relief operations, is auctioning her car to raise money for victims of super typhoon "Yolanda" (international name Haiyan). Tina Monzon-Palma, the program director of ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya, said Locsin gave her 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle last Sunday to their organization for the auction. "Chevrolet Chevelle. Opo, dinala niya dito last Sunday ang car, ipinakita niya sa atin at sinabi niya na, 'para sa inyo 'yan, sa Sagip Kapamilya.' "Nag-usap-usap lang kami ng aming mga kaibigan para i-explain sa kanya ang procedure ng auction because she has to understand that everybody is making an offer. "Secret pa sana 'yon eh...I would have wanted na she will say it, she would be the one. Nandito siya, she was here Sunday," she added. Currently, Locsin is gearing up for her upcoming series, "The Legal Wife," with Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.

Phil Youngbushand breaks silence on split with Angel Locsin

102813-angel_main.jpg

A couple of days since his now ex-girlfriend Angel Locsin revealed their breakup, Azkals team captain Phil Younghusband took to his Instagram account on Sunday to say his piece on his shocking split with “The Legal Wife” actress. He underscored that despite the separation, he and Angel are still good friends. “Although we have parted as a couple, we are thankful that we remain friends and we only wish the best for each other,” he wrote. According to the Filipino-British striker, there was nothing to regret about their almost two-year “happy” relationship for “we enjoyed each other’s company and really made the most of it.” However, as much as they tried to make things work for their relationship, without divulging the true reason of their separation, Phil said that parting ways was the best choice to make. “There are no faults in this, it was not an issue of who did or didn’t do something, it was a mutual decision and although it was difficult we just both felt that this would be the best thing to do given our circumstances,” he wrote. More he requested for understanding from their followers for this “sensitive matter.” “I personally apologize for [not] taking time to let everyone know about the situation. I am grateful for your support and we hope you continue to support both of us in our each of our endeavors,” said he. Recall that it was Angel who confirmed their split via a statement sent earlier to “Ang Buzz ng Bayan” head writer Darla Sauler which was later on published at DarlaSauler.com.

Phil to Angel's fans: Thank you for supporting us

MANILA -- Amid the confirmation of his split from former girlfriend Angel Locsin, Phil Younghusband on Friday thanked those who supported his relationship with the TV star. The 26-year-old football player, in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual, opted not to comment on his separation from the 28-year-old actress, but said he is grateful to the fans who followed their relationship since 2011. Younghusband and Locsin became a couple on May 27, 2012, following a year-long romance that started with a tweet from the Azkals striker asking her out for Valentine's Day. Asked how he is coping with the breakup, Younghusband said, "I can't comment on that, not right now. I just can't... I can't comment on that right now." "I just thank everyone for their support. Everyone's been amazing, so I'm thankful to everyone," he said at the sidelines of the opening of a new theater hall at SM Aura in Taguig City. He mentioned, in particular, the "Philgels," an organized fan group dedicated to Younghusband and Locsin as a couple. "Thank you to everyone for their support, thank you to all the Philgels, and everyone who has supported me and my brother (James Younghusband), Angel, everyone, and the team. We're very thankful for them and I look forward to the future," he said. Younghusband went on to thank his brother, who he said "has supported me all my life, on the football field, off the football field." Locsin, in confirming the breakup early Friday, also played a similar tune as she thanked the supporters of her relationship with the football player. "Pasensya na po kung hindi po kami makasagot agad tungkol sa status ng aming relasyon. Lalong-lalo na po sa mga sumuporta sa aming dalawa. Hindi po namin kayo binalewala... Mahirap lang po talaga kung nasa ganitong sitwasyon. "Nagulat na lang kami na naunahan na kami ng balita bago pa man kami makpag-usap uli. Salamat po sa lahat ng sumubaybay at sumuporta sa journey namin ni Phil lalo na ho dito sa Twitter. Hinding-hindi po namin malilimutan," she said on the micro-blogging site. For now, Younghusband said he is busying himself with preparations for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup, which takes place in May 2014 in Maldives. "The focus is always the same as it's always been," said Younghusband, who recently recoverd from a calf injury. "We have the Azkals, and there's a big competition -- the Challenge Cup next year. It's something to look forward to."

Angel Locsin hopes to play Darna again

MANILA – Angel Locsin said she would love to portray the role of Filipino superheroine Darna again if the ABS-CBN management gives her the opportunity. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Locsin said Darna has already become part of her and it would delight her to give life to the character again. “Ako kasi si Darna, feeling ko talaga eh. Kahit hindi ibigay ulit sa akin ang bato, part na siya ng pagkatao ko. 'Yung magkaroon ako ng opportunity at nagawa ko naman nang maayos 'yung duty ko bilang si Darna, malaking bagay na 'yun sa akin. Pero kung magbabalik ako, okay lang,” she said. Locsin has already been given the opportunity to star as Darna on television in 2005. The most recent TV incarnation of Darna is actress Marian Rivera, who appeared in a 2009 series by GMA-7. Meanwhile, Locsin said she would not feel bad if the management gives the role to other actresses. “Pwede din kasing ibigay sa younger generation. Ayaw ko naman ipagkait. Iba rin ang naitulong sa akin ni Darna. Iba 'yung pagdating sa career. Bawat isa sa atin, may hero na nakatago diyan, so parang nabuhay sa akin 'yun. Ayaw kong ipagdamot sa iba 'yung experience na 'yun,” she said. ABS-CBN recently acquired exclusive rights to "Darna," one of Mars Ravelo's popular works. It has yet to choose who will portray the Pinay superhero, but Locsin, KC Concepcion, Cristine Reyes, Sarah Geronimo and Jessy Mendiola have been considered by many as potential perfect fits for the role.

No animosity between Angel, Marian

MANILA – Angel Locsin denied rumors of an animosity between her and Marian Rivera, who was once her rival when they were still in the same television network. For the first time, Locsin opened up on what happened when she met Rivera for the shoot of the cover of the September 2013 cover of Rogue Magazine. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Locsin said it was a very pleasant meeting that was meant to happen. “Nakakatuwa na nagkita kami. First time namin magkita after mag-move and all. Sabi ko kailangan naming mag-usap. Tumawa siya tapos sabi niya, ‘Oo nga eh.’ Niyakap ko siya, niyakap niya ako, tawa lang kami ng tawa,” she said. While they really didn’t have issues with each other, Locsin admitted that their relationship somehow became affected because they were always being pitted against each other in the past. “Sa amin, wala kaming issue, wala kaming away. Siguro naging aloof kami sa isa’t isa kasi laging naco-compare. Kahit anong gawin namin, may manlalait sa akin na fan niya, or may manlalait sa kanya na fan ko,” she said. She added: “Wala namang ginawa sa aking masama si Marian. Ako wala naman akong nagawang masama sa kanya. Nung ‘Shop and Share,’ humingi pa ako ng donations sa kanya – mga gowns and bags. Pinuntahan ko siya sa bahay niya.” Proving she really has nothing against the Kapuso actress, Locsin said she is open to working with her in a project when the right time comes. “Hindi ko alam. Kung para magkaroon lang ng issue 'yung project, huwag na lang kasi sayang naman ang performance naming or director kung matatabunan lang ng issue 'yung pelikula. Baka hindi pa naaayon pero wala kaming problema,” she said. Locsin said she is just happy that they were given the chance to bond during the magazine pictorial. Aside from Locsin and Rivera, the cover of Rogue’s September 2013 issue also featured Anne Curtis, Judy Ann Santos and Charlene Gonzales. Wearing pieces from Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter Collection 2013, the ladies were styled by Pam Quiñones for the cover, which was photographed by Mark Nicdao.

Angel has message for Twitter users amid heavy rains

MANILA – Actress Angel Locsin believes that Twitter users can extend help to flood victims in Metro Manila and nearby provinces by avoiding the use of unnecessary hashtags. While most local celebrities simply tell their Twitter followers to “keep safe” amid non-stop rains in the country, Locsin asked them to stick to hashtags that will help in relief and rescue operations, such as #rescueph, #reliefph and #floodph. A number of Twitter users praised the actress for being "direct to the point." Locsin also used her Twitter account, which has over three million followers, to post emergency phone numbers and ways to donate to flood victims through organizations such as Red Cross. Torrential rain relentlessly battered the flood-soaked Philippine capital and surrounding farming areas on Tuesday, raising this week’s monsoon death toll to seven. At least 11 people were injured, while four remain missing. Schools and government offices in Manila and many neighboring regions were closed for a second consecutive day as floods swelled high into urban as well as rural homes.

Yearly, palaki ng palaki. Laging bago. The working title of Salvador’s upcoming series is “Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin.”

Phil Younghusband on surprise video for Angel Locsin: ‘I enjoy making her feel kilig’

Phil Younghusband hardly left Angel Locsin’s side during the premiere night of Four Sisters And A Wedding. They’ve been so busy with their individual careers that it’s a rare sight to see them together nowadays. In an interview with the local press, the dashing Azkals striker shared that he actually had fun watching Angel’s feisty character in the movie. “My favorite scene was when Angel dragged (Mocha). I wasn’t really shocked though. I know Angel is very strong. I know she’s capable of doing that,” he cheerfully began. The couple celebrated their first year anniversary of their romance last May and by the way they were so close to each other at the premiere, their relationship appears to be going strong. Phil related that he appreciates the fact that Angel made an effort to show up at his game in Singapore despite her busy schedule at the time. “I had a game in Singapore. She surprised me. It was very sweet of her. It was for our anniversary.” Like ordinary couples, they were content watching TV while in Singapore since they had no time to tour around. But when they came home to Manila, Angel didn’t expect that Phil had also prepared a surprise for her. He told Push.com.ph that he actually made an anniversary video for Angel, which is a compilation of some of their moments together. “Yeah, pagdating namin sa Manila, I surprised her with a video that I made for her. All our memories, photos of the first time we met… It took me a month to make. So I’m glad she appreciates it,” said Phil who was all smiles as he recalled Angel’s reaction to his surprise. Angel previously mentioned in an interview that she’s amazed with the way Phil’s thoughtfulness seemed so effortless and the fact that she can’t beat his romantic gestures. Asked if he’s a romantic by heart, Phil maintained that he enjoys making Angel feel special. “I enjoy it, I enjoy making the video, making her feel kilig. That's one thing that I want, I want to make her happy and kilig.”

Angel Locsin says no divas in star-studded movie

MANILA – Actress Angel Locsin does not mind getting unequal exposure in the upcoming family-oriented movie “Four Sisters and a Wedding.” The comedy-drama, which will kick off the 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN's film production outfit Star Cinema, also features Bea Alonzo, Shaina Magdayao, Toni Gonzaga and Enchong Dee. More than her screen time, Locsin said she is concerned about how all of them would perform to properly tell the story to the audience. “Kung lahat kami magpapaka-diva, walang storyang mabubuo. Parang weird naman kung magbibilang ng eksena. Ang importante sa akin 'yung kuwento maganda at mahatid sa audience kasi family movie ito,” she said. In a separate interview, director Cathy Garcia Molina said trying to give the actresses equal exposure in the movie was tough. “Yun ang [klinaro] ko sa kanila, na I can’t promise equal exposure in the film because at the end of the day, it’s the story being told that's important. But I tried giving them equal treatment from me, making them feel na pareho ang importance nila sa pelikula whether mas marami exposure nila o hindi,” she said. Locsin said she is feels honored to have been given the chance to work with Alonzo, Magdaya, Gonzaga and Dee, as she praised her co-stars for not showing up with an “attitude” on the set. “Yung set namin masaya. Ang sarap ng uuwi kang nakangiti, hindi ka na-stress sa mga katrabaho mo off cam. Masi-stress ka siguro kung 'yung performance mo hindi maganda. Pero masaya 'yung meron kaming mga opportunidad na magkakatrabaho,” she said. Despite winning several acting trophies for her previous movies, Locsin said she still learned a lot from doing “Four Sisters and a Wedding.” “Iba ang natutunan ko. Ang gagaling ng mga katrabaho ko, walang biro. Nag-e-expect ako na may isa sa amin magpapaka-diva. Wala eh. Lahat sila professional. Suwerte ako na nabigyan ako ng chance makatrabaho ang magagaling na artista na mababait,” she said. In the first trailer for the film released early this month, sisters Teddie (Gonzaga), Bobbie (Alonzo), Alex (Locsin) and Gabbie (Magdayao) reunite for a "big event" -- their youngest brother's (Enchong Dee) wedding. However, the four sisters, left with a foul impression after meeting the bride's family, conspire to block the wedding as they scheme to "save" their brother. "Four Sisters and a Wedding" will be released in theaters nationwide on June 26.

Angel Locsin misses Robin on 'Toda Max'

MANILA – Angel Locsin finally broke her silence over the long absence of actor Robin Padilla in their ABS-CBN sitcom “Toda Max.” Without providing details, Locsin said she and the rest of the cast of the weekly comedy show miss working with Padilla but added that they respect the actor’s decision. “Nalungkot kaming lahat pero kilala namen si Kuya Binoe. Alam namin na hindi siya magdedesisyon ng wala sa lugar so sinusuportahan namin siya. Nami-miss namin siya,” she said. If she given the chance, Locsin said she would definitely work with Padilla in another project again. “Kung makakasama ko siya ulit, masaya iyon. Marami akong natutunan sa kanya. Siya nga 'yung isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit ako nag ‘Toda Max,’” she said. New movie Meanwhile, aside from “Toda Max,” Locsin is also busy with her upcoming Star Cinema movie “Four Sisters and a Wedding” with Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao and Enchong Dee. In the first trailer for the film released last week, sisters Teddie (Gonzaga), Bobbie (Alonzo), Alex (Locsin) and Gabbie (Magdayao) are shown gathering at home for their youngest sibling's (Enchong Dee) wedding. However, the four sisters, who dislike the bride's family, conspire to block the wedding. As they scheme to "save" their only brother, the siblings are also forced to face the problems in their family. According to Locsin, she feels honored to be part of this movie with ABS-CBN’s biggest stars. “First time ko makatrabaho na maraming artisa at ang bait nila at walang comepetition sa set,” she said. “Four Sisters and a Wedding” will kick off the 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN's film production outfit when it releases in theaters nationwide on June 26.
