MANILA – Actress Angel Locsin believes that Twitter users can extend help to flood victims in Metro Manila and nearby provinces by avoiding the use of unnecessary hashtags.
While most local celebrities simply tell their Twitter followers to “keep safe” amid non-stop rains in the country, Locsin asked them to stick to hashtags that will help in relief and rescue operations, such as #rescueph, #reliefph and #floodph.
A number of Twitter users praised the actress for being "direct to the point."
Locsin also used her Twitter account, which has over three million followers, to post emergency phone numbers and ways to donate to flood victims through organizations such as Red Cross.
Torrential rain relentlessly battered the flood-soaked Philippine capital and surrounding farming areas on Tuesday, raising this week’s monsoon death toll to seven. At least 11 people were injured, while four remain missing.
Schools and government offices in Manila and many neighboring regions were closed for a second consecutive day as floods swelled high into urban as well as rural homes.
