HOT! 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' First Movie Trailer

The two-minute trailer, which premiered just after 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET, showcased Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) being presented as the victors of the 74th Hunger Games as civil unrest reached a boiling point.

It also showed President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the introduction of new head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) conspiring to eliminate Katniss, whom they deem to be a dangerous threat to all that has been built. "She has become a beacon of hope for them. She has to be eliminated," Snow declares in the trailer.

"I agree she should die, but in the right way ... at the right time," Plutarch says as he runs through his proposed plan among scenes of upheaval. "Katniss Everdeen is a symbol. We don't have to destroy her, just her image, so then she is one of us now. Let them rally behind that. They're gonna hate her so much, they might just kill her for ya."

It's Katniss and Peeta's guide Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) who tells them to become a distraction so the people can focus on them instead of the real problems. Even Katniss' younger sister, the quiet Primrose (Willow Shields), wants to get in on the action. Other moments of note include a kiss between Katniss and childhood friend Gale (Hemsworth), a standoff between Katniss and a gun, and Snow's desire to "eradicate" Katniss' species (aka the other Hunger Games victors).

Earlier this month, MTV released a promo -- and even a GIF that kept the Internet buzzing -- teasing the big reveal with less than 10 seconds of footage.

This is the second time Hunger Games has premiered footage at the MTV Movie Awards. The first official teaser for that film, a short preview with Katniss running through the woods, premiered during the 2011 awards show.

In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss and Peeta celebrate their epic win by embarking on a victory tour around the 12 districts of Panem. Just when they think the battle is over, they are both thrown into the Quarter Quell -- an unprecedented and horrifying new competition.

Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, Sam Claflin and Jena Malone co-star. Francis Lawrence directed the second installment, which hits theaters Nov. 22.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire': Feast your eyes on Finnick Odair

The latest Victory Tour portrait serves up another dose of man candy.

Winner of the 65th Hunger Games, District 4 victor Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) may be known for keeping secrets, but it seems he has a hard time keeping his clothes on. In his poster, Finnick wears combat boots, wide-legged pants and a gauzy shirt with a deep V-neck, which gives us a sneak peek at his bare chest. Not bad, but I’m interested to see his outfit for the Tribute Parade, which is described in the book as “a golden net that’s strategically knotted at his groin so that he can’t technically be called naked, but he’s about as close as you can get.” Hope the studio sprung for a trainer to help get Claflin ready for his big reveal.

Paging 'Hunger Games' fans! Capitol Couture is back!

There may still be eight months to go before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released in theaters, but fans have cause to celebrate today: Capitol Couture is back.

The blog, originally launched last January and said to be run by the Capitol, is up and running once again. This time it’s kicking off the Catching Fire promotion with a official portrait of Effie Trinket donning perfectly over-the-top dress and hair, as well as some shoes that are sure to make Lady Gaga jealous. Fun note: Every detail of the site is perfectly in character, even down to a licensing blurb at the bottom of the page. “Capitolcouture.pn is a Capitol Sanctioned Source for Fashion & Culture. Lic.741-20.”

“Head to heel in couture, Effie enchants in an exploding silhouette of chiffon and organza blooms,” the fawning photo description proclaims. “Never one to waver in her fashionable footwear, her heel-less boots are shod with a golden horse-shoe platform.”

Check out the first “Capitol Portrait” below, and stay tuned. According to a countdown clock on the site, the next picture premieres in just three hours:

'The Hunger Games' Original DVD Will Be Available on August 18, 2012!

Those crazy kids Peeta and Katniss (and yeah, Gale, too) won’t be launching their full-scale revolt against The Capitol until 2013 in “Catching Fire”, but to hold you over, Lionsgate will be releasing Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games” onto DVD and Blu-ray later this year.

Special Features on the DVD and Blu-ray discs will include:

“The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games” – an eight-part documentary covering the “making of” the film in all aspects from the pre-production process all the way through the theatrical release and fan reactions
“Game Maker: Suzanne Collins and The Hunger Games Phenomenom” featurette
“Letters from the Rose Garden” featurette – insights from Donald Sutherland on the development of his role as President Snow
“Controlling the Games” featurette – stories and concepts behind creating the control center
“A Conversation with Gary Ross and Elvis Mitchell”
Propaganda Film (in its entirety)
Marketing Archive
“Preparing for The Games: A Director’s Process” (Blu-ray Exclusive)
“The Hunger Games” is often compared to that other young adult book franchise. You know, the one with the vampires and werewolves and such? In terms of box office, “The Hunger Games” nearly doubled that film in earnings, and I suspect its sequel, “Catching Fire”, will do even better business now that the ground has been laid out for non-readers of the Suzanne Collins book.

“The Hunger Games” will be available Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand, and Digital Download on August 18, 2012.

Jena Malone to Play the Character of Johanna Mason in the 'Hunger Games Sequel'

Actress Jena Malone known in her role in 'Sucker Punch' movie is desiring the pivotal role of strong-willed tribute Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, EW has learned exclusively.

The character is described in author Suzanne Collins’ bestseller as possessing “a wicked ability to murder,” winning her Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes. One open question about the character is whether director Francis Lawrence will keep Johanna’s introduction from the book, in which she first meets heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) naked — save for her green slippers.

'Catching Fire' Sequel to The Hunger Games Trilogy Coming Soon on November 22, 2013

Lionsgate and the IMAX Corporation also announced today that they would be working together once more to bring out the sequel in the IMAX format.

Catching Fire is already hotly anticipated, after the opening film in the trilogy grossed over £250 million worldwide following its March release.

'We are thrilled to continue the productive partnership we enjoyed with IMAX on the first instalment of The Hunger Games, said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger.

'Our partnership on the first Hunger Games film was a resounding success, and we look forward to building on that experience with an expanded IMAX relationship on Catching Fire.

'IMAX delivers a unique and memorable experience that is the perfect way to celebrate this special moviegoing event.'

Catching Fire will be based on the second novel in Suzanne Collins' best-selling sci-fi series, with Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reprising their roles of Gale, Katniss and Peeta.
