HOT! 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' First Movie Trailer

The two-minute trailer, which premiered just after 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET, showcased Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) being presented as the victors of the 74th Hunger Games as civil unrest reached a boiling point.

It also showed President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the introduction of new head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) conspiring to eliminate Katniss, whom they deem to be a dangerous threat to all that has been built. "She has become a beacon of hope for them. She has to be eliminated," Snow declares in the trailer.

"I agree she should die, but in the right way ... at the right time," Plutarch says as he runs through his proposed plan among scenes of upheaval. "Katniss Everdeen is a symbol. We don't have to destroy her, just her image, so then she is one of us now. Let them rally behind that. They're gonna hate her so much, they might just kill her for ya."

It's Katniss and Peeta's guide Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) who tells them to become a distraction so the people can focus on them instead of the real problems. Even Katniss' younger sister, the quiet Primrose (Willow Shields), wants to get in on the action. Other moments of note include a kiss between Katniss and childhood friend Gale (Hemsworth), a standoff between Katniss and a gun, and Snow's desire to "eradicate" Katniss' species (aka the other Hunger Games victors).

Earlier this month, MTV released a promo -- and even a GIF that kept the Internet buzzing -- teasing the big reveal with less than 10 seconds of footage.

This is the second time Hunger Games has premiered footage at the MTV Movie Awards. The first official teaser for that film, a short preview with Katniss running through the woods, premiered during the 2011 awards show.

In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss and Peeta celebrate their epic win by embarking on a victory tour around the 12 districts of Panem. Just when they think the battle is over, they are both thrown into the Quarter Quell -- an unprecedented and horrifying new competition.

Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, Sam Claflin and Jena Malone co-star. Francis Lawrence directed the second installment, which hits theaters Nov. 22.
