Jake Cuenca denies fight with Rocco over Lovi

MANILA -- Actor Jake Cuenca denied that he had a fistfight with actor Rocco Nacino, who is now being linked romantically to actress Lovi Poe. Cuenca had been vocal of his feelings for Poe, but the actress repeatedly addressed the Kapamilya star's intentions, saying they remain "genuine friends." “I don’t have any reaction on that kasi Lovi is single, she can date,” Cuenca said during the much-awaited Star Magic Ball on Saturday at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati when asked about the supposed incident with Nacino. According to tabloid reports, the two actors allegedly saw each other at Poe’s condominium unit. Poe has earlier denied that such an incident occurred and on Saturday, Cuenca even said he hasn’t even met Nacino. “"Di ko pa siya nakikita," he told reporters. But asked if he is the type of guy who would engage in a fist fight over a woman, he said: “Ipaglalaban ko kapag dapat ipaglaban but no instance like that." Cuenca and Poe are starring in the upcoming drama ‘Lihis,” while Poe and Nacino appear in a new soap in another network. Poe has also earlier denied any romance with Nacino, saying they have long known each other. She also denied to the entertainment website Pep.ph that Nacino is the reason for her "falling out" with Cuenca. “No, mahirap kasing magsalita about that. Pero si Rocco, matagal ko na siyang kaibigan and it’s very different, malayo,” she told Pep.ph.

Rocco doesn't mind being replacement in 'Calungsod' film

MANILA – Rocco Nacino does not mind being the replacement of JM de Guzman as Pedro Calungsod in a Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry about the life of the second Filipino saint. In an interview with entertainment website Pep.ph, Nacino said he still feels honored because he was chosen to play the Filipino saint. “Hindi ko iniisip na I’m just a replacement. I got the role so I have something to be really happy and thankful about and hindi ko na iniisip na replacement ako,” he said. De Guzman's father had earlier withdrawn the participation of the actor in the film, citing "health problems." Nacino, who previously played the Cebu-born saint in a mini-documentary, said he is doing research to properly portray his character. “I’m learning and researching, and I’m looking forward to attending Latin masses para malaman kung paano sila mag-conduct ng masses para iyon ang puwede kong gamitin para basehan,” he said. Nacino said it is also a non-issue for him that he is not a Roman Catholic. “Okay lang sa akin, it’s work… it’s part of the work. And for example, if I get a project na kailangan kong maging atheist or ano, someone who doesn’t believe in God, I’ll accept it kasi it’s just work,” he said. As early as now, Nacino said he is already feeling the pressure because this will be his first lead role in an MMFF entry. “I was excited siyempre to land the role and I feel very honored to be working for this kind of project na napakalaki and to be part of MMFF. It’s gonna be my first. 'Yung una ko, kasama sina Miss Judy Ann [Santos] sa ‘My Househusband,’ pero parang support ako doon,” he said. Aside from Nacino, "San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir" will aslo feature Christian Vazquez, Jestoni Alarcon, Victor Basa, Ryan Eigenmann and Mercedes Cabral.

Politics for Rocco stops onscreen

Actor Rocco Nacino, whose contract with GMA 7 Artist Center prohibits him from endorsing political candidates in the coming elections, believes there are still honest politicians. “It’s always better to be optimistic. I know that they’re out there,” says Nacino, who plays the lead in “Bayan Ko,” GMA News TV 11’s first original series. “This series encourages voters to elect the right people.” Nacino plays a fictional character—Mayor Joseph Santiago who, at 30, is one of his town’s youngest mayors. His efforts to fight corruption are blocked by the governor (Pen Medina) and his congressman son (Ping Medina). Pen stresses the importance of the series. “It gives us a peek into what really happens in government. It aims to stir us into action. A dishonest and corrupt person should not be given a position of power.”

Wicked, heartless

He adds: “Some colleagues have asked me why I agreed to play this character, who is wicked and heartless. I replied, ‘How can we show the other side of politicians, which they try very hard to hide from us, if not through projects like this?” Actress Mercedes Cabral says she has never come across a material like “Bayan Ko,” which she describes as “serious, brave and hard-hitting.” Mercedes plays a powerful contractor who is also the governor’s lover. Says Cabral, “The series will expose issues that are talked about only in whispers. As an actor, I’m proud to serve as a tool for change. Once we know all these things, the next question should be, ‘What do we plan to do about it?’” “Bayan Ko,” a six-part series directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., also features LJ Reyes, Maria Isabel Lopez, Angeli Bayani, Love Añover and Albert Sumaya, among others. It airs Sundays at 6:30 p.m., starting today on GNTV 11.

Rocco Nacino "waiting for the right time" to speak to Sheena Halili after their breakup

“I don’t want to name names. May naging peg po, pero it was konting guide lang siya—to show good governance.
“Yun yung parang may peg kaming isang politician. So, doon medyo ginawa ang karakter.” Na-excite daw agad si Rocco nang malamang siya ang napili ng GMA News TV na gumanap sa lead role ng Bayan Ko.
