Robin Padilla visits Zamboanga evacuees

ZAMBOANGA -- Actor Robin Padilla visited Zamboanga City over the weekend to check on the status of the evacuees at the grandstand, most of whom are Muslims. Padilla said he is saddened to see the state of the victims displaced by the conflict between government troops and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). He also said no one, neither the government nor the victims, should be accustomed with the present situation. "Dapat nasa rehabilitation stage na tayo," Padilla said in an exclusive interview. "Dapat tapos na tayo sa relief." Padilla was also briefed by cause-oriented groups led by the Baugbug Human Rights Center on the crimes involving the evacuees such as abuses, trafficking and others. The actor also called on the Muslim and Christian communities not to plant anger in their hearts, following the displacement of thousands and the destruction of their houses during the firefight. "Hindi dapat sinasali ang relihyon dito," Padilla said. "Hindi ako maniniwala kung sasabihin ninyong Kristyano kayo, o Muslim kayo, tapos nagbabanta kayo ng giyera. Dahil walang galit sa ano mang relihyong ito." Padilla is said to have a strong following in the Muslim community since he reverted to the Islamic faith.
