MANILA, Philippines -- Joem Bascon and Jake Cuenca portray characters bound by a similar cause to topple a dictatorship, and by a relationship that turns passionate at a time when freedom is stifled.
Written by Ricky Lee and directed by Joel Lamangan, "Lihis" features the two actors as communist rebels during the '70s. Amid their struggles to fight for freedom, the two form a bond beyond friendship, which proves precarious when it becomes intimate.
In a trailer released for the film early this week, actress Isabelle Daza as a present-day history teacher is bent on proving that certain events in history are simply "erased" by those in power.
Her investigation takes her to the '70s, when Bascon and Cuenca's characters are caught in the same conflict that leads to a massacre in a village.
"Lihis" also stars Lovi Poe, Gloria Diaz, Raquel Villavicencio, Tony Mabesa, Alex Castro and Jaime Pebanco.
It is among the 12 entries to the Sineng Pambansa All Masters Series Film Festival, scheduled in September. The film festival is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
