MANILA – Actress Ara Mina said it was tough for her to sue her sister Cristine Reyes for libel, but she said it was needed in order for the latter to learn her lesson.
"Hindi ako nagsisisi sa ginawa kong pagdemanda noon. Parang tough love. Minsan kailangan mong tiisin ang mahal mo sa buhay para matuto lang," Mina said in an interview aired on "Showbiz Inside Report" on Saturday.
Mina and Reyes finally reconciled last month, ending a year-long feud.
"Holy week nangyari ang pagbabati namin. Holy week din nangyari ang away namin, so 1 year. Easter Sunday we decided na i-surprise namin ang mommy ko," she said.
In April last year, Mina filed charges of libel and grave coercion against Reyes before a Quezon City court. The legal feud stems from an alleged dispute over the remaining balance for a house they bought for their mother.
Since news of the court battle erupted, both actresses went on record, time and again, to air their side on the issue, with Reyes apologizing to Mina, and the latter expressing doubts on her sister' sincerity.
This time, however, Mina said she is not doubting Reyes' sincerity, even defending the latter from critics.
"Alam ko merong mga 'di naniniwala na sincere si Cristine. Ako na po ang nagsasabi sa inyo, totoo po," she said.
