Sarah Geronimo proved that she has learned her lessons from her past heartbreaks as she shared how she was able to identify with her role—the fiercer, bolder and braver Laida Magtalas—in her upcoming movie It Takes A Man And A Woman. “Si Laida, sa two movies po na nakita natin, ay very naïve. She believes in fairytales, na hindi naman po nalalayo sa akin. Idealistic din po ako. Madaming hinahanap sa pagibig—dapat ganito, ganyan. Pero tulad ng nangyari dito, yung experiences niya at situations na nangyari sa buhay niya, ipinakita how imperfect we are, how imperfect ang buhay natin. That’s the reality. Kailangan tanggapin ‘yan,” she said during the grand press con It Takes A Man And A Woman held at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater yesterday, March 17.
It’s no secret that the Popstar Princess had fallen in love and was hurt a few times in the past years. Without mentioning any names, the 24-year-old revealed that she learned to accept that not all love stories end up happily ever after. What’s important is that she became a stronger person because of her experiences. “May mga bagay na siguro hindi talaga para sa’yo. Halimbawa, sa pagibig. Time will come you have to let go. ‘Pag ni-let go mo yun… Ako, kasi po, nung nag-let go ako, dun ko nalaman kung anong klaseng pagmamahal na meron ako, ibang level na pagmamahal na meron sa puso ako. At si Miggy at si Laida, nung ginawa nila ‘yan, eh siguro itinadhana ng Diyos na magkita sila muli at i-resolve kung ano man [yung kailangan nila i-resolve]. Basta panoorin niyo yung pelikula,” she exclaimed with a laugh.
Although she admittedly has become fiercer, braver and bolder in real life, Sarah maintained that she still needs improvement when it comes to controlling her emotions. Good thing that her real-life experiences in love actually motivated her in portraying her character in the movie. “Tulad ng sinabi ni Direk, nakatulong na nagkaroon ng interval, nag-grow kami apart. Kaya ‘di masyado mahirap yung pinanggalingan ng character. Although may times talaga na nahirapan ako paghiwalayin si Sarah at Laida kasi halos magkapareho po talaga sila ng pinagdaanan. Hahaha! Ayun. Kaya ‘di ako nahirapan sa pagiging braver at bolder. Huwag lang daw sosobra. sabi ng direktor (Cathy Garcia-Molina) ko, ‘wag daw akong laging galit. Tsaka yung maturity, masasabi ko na process para sa akin yung maturity ko. Ang dami ko natutunan sa pag-portray ko ng Laida.”
When asked would make Sarah fall in love again, the bubbly actress simply replied, “Hindi ko naman po masasabi ‘yan. Sabi nga ni Lloydy, ‘You don’t get to choose love, love chooses you.’
As for her kilig team-up with John Lloyd Cruz, Sarah happily shared that their friendship has grown deeper in this project. “Sobrang malaking tulong na happy siya. Nadadala niya sa set. Maganda ang friendship namin. Sobrang kumportable kami sa isa’t isa ngayon. Malaking naitulong nun.”
You will recall that Sarah fell in love with John Lloyd when they shot their first movie, A Very Special Love, back in 2008. But the singer-actress was quick to deny that John Lloyd tried to court her at that time. “Hindi po! Nag-umpisa kami sa magandang friendship. Sa kanya ko naramdaman yung how to be yourself. Nandodoon yung comfort ko na magsalita, magkwento sa kanya o umutot pa sa harap niya. Ganun siya naging special sa akin. Bata pa ako noon eh.”
Nevertheless, Sarah admitted that there’s really something about John Lloyd that makes a lot of women fall for him. “Yung natural na pagmamahal, siyempre madali kasi kilala ko siya. Sa pagtratrabaho namin, minahal ko siya bilang tao, bilang leading man, kasi napakagaling at napakabait pa. May toyo nga lang minsan. Beyond that, siguro hindi ko pa po alam.”
