MANILA -- Veteran actress Alice Dixson has confirmed her divorce from her husband of 13 years, businessman Ronnie Miranda.
The 44-year-old actress confirmed to ABS-CBN News on Thursday that the petition for divorce, which was filed in December 2012 in Vancouver, Canada, was finalized last month.
"It's bittersweet," Dixson said, "because nobody wants to have a failed anything, a failed relationship. It's very difficult for both parties, but anybody who's been through this would know what kind of experience it is. It's very difficult."
"I'm smiling now but that's just because you try to hide the pain," she said.
Dixson and Miranda, who is based in Canada, lived there for several years during their marriage. The actress has both United States and Canadian citizenship.
Asked for the reason behind their divorce, which they had agreed on as early as January 2012, Dixson pointed to "long-standing irreconcilable differences that, over time, were difficult to work out."
The actress said that while she and Miranda are not antagonistic towards each other following their divorce, it may still be premature to renew their ties as friends.
"At this point, it's so very early. It's amicable but it's hard to stay friends. I'd like to stay friends, of course, but it's quite early, pero hindi naman kami nag-aaway," she said.
On getting into another romantic relationship, Dixson admitted that she is "forming friendships," but added that it is still too early to characterize it as "dating."
Currently filming a big-screen remake of the 1983 film "Nagalit ang Buwan sa Haba ng Gabi," Dixson said she is also thrilled to appear in an upcoming episode of the ABS-CBN drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kay."
A contract artist of TV5, Dixson expressed gratitude to executives of the Kapatid network for allowing her to take up projects with rival stations.
