MANILA - Actress Kim Chiu expressed her sadness over the massive damage caused by super typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban, where she was born. In an interview with "Kris TV" on Monday, Chiu shared that she was born Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City, and stayed there until she was in Grade 5. "Hanggang Grade 5. Noong pinapanood namin 'yung areas na sinasabi nila, kinikilabutan ako. Lahat 'yon alam ko lalo na 'yung San Jose kasi doon kami nakatira. 'Yun 'yung sobrang naapektuhan as in wala na, haligi na lang 'yung natira. Sobrang nakaka-sad ang nangyari at may pinsan ako doon," she said. "Sa Bethany Hospital [ako pinanganak]. Wala na siya, kinain na siya ng tubig, lahat. As in noong pinanood namin 'yung news, sobra akong na-shock," she added. Chiu said that they are also trying to contact her cousin and uncle in Tacloban. "May pinsan din ako doon, 'yung ate niya nandito siya sa Maynila, tinatanong niya ako kung may ABS-CBN ba na pupunta sa Tacloban kasi gusto niya ding sumama. Kasi 'yung daddy niya at kapatid niya ay nandoon, 'yung cousin ko. So hanggang ngayon wala pang contact two days na, so yon," she said. Meanwhile, "Kris TV" host Kris Aquino said celebrity sisters Vina Morales and Shaina Magdayao are also searching for their grandmother. "Kasi inabot sa akin 'yung text from Shaina for Darla at sinabi niyo na ang hirap-hirap kasi until now, 'di pa nalo-locate ang lola niya. Nakatanggap sila ng isang text galing sa uncle niya last night using a different number na hindi na nila ma-reach ngayon... They'd been up all night waiting for news and up to now, wala pa silang balita," Aquino said.

Kris, Kim, Bea join forces to help quake victims

MANILA -- Host-actress Kris Aquino gave donations to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) last Friday to help earthquake victims in Cebu and Bohol. In an episode of her morning show, "Kris TV," aired on Monday, Aquino personally gave her donation to PRC secretary general Gwendolyn Pang. "I decided to give proceeds from the three-day Kris Aquino Sale," she said. Addressing people who criticize her for publicizing her charity work, Aquino said: "People were asking me if you are helping, why do you have to publicize it? Parang gusto ko sabihin, 'you have talaga to encourage other people.' "Parang kailangan mong iparamdam that there are people who care, hindi 'yung kumportable ka, kumportable ang mga anak mo ay okay na. Importante talaga na mayroon kang malasakit kasi you don't know the time will come na ikaw naman 'yung nagsa-suffer and how would you feel if nobody cared about you," she explained. According to Aquino, her close friend, actress Kim Chiu, will also help in rebuilding century-old churches in quake-hit areas. "I was getting a lot of feedback na tinatanong niyo sa akin. Ang nababasa ko naman na, 'what about Chinita Princess na si Kim Chiu?' Kim and I are talking last night and she said, 'Ate kung ikaw toka niyo ni Bea ngayon ang Red Cross, toka ko ang simbahan.' Kasi nakapunta na ang 'Kris TV' doon sa [Bohol] they are so welcoming and so nice, so sabi ko kailangan mayroon tayong gawin talaga," she said. Following the successful premiere of her newest film, "She's The One," actress Bea Alonzo also gave donations to the PRC to help victims of the recent earthquake in central Visayas. "Parang it's all about setting an example. If you are blessed, you share it," Alonzo said.

3rd Kim-Xian soap offers 'new concept'

MANILA -- A third TV series starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim is in the works, the actress confirmed, following the success of the on-screen couple's first big-screen project together. "Ano siya, bago siya sa amin ni Xian. Sa primetime [ipapalabas]," Chiu was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN entertainment news site Push. Referring to Lim, Chiu said, "Kahit kami excited kami sa kwento, excited kaming gawin 'yung bagong concept, so sobrang nakaka-excite. Tapos bagong offering namin ito sa mga tao." The popular "love team" was last seen on the small screen in the primetime top-rater "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," which ended its eight-month run in June this year. This was preceded by the 2011 series "My Binondo Girl," which served as the debut vehicle of Lim and Chiu's successful tandem. Their first movie together, "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?", was released early this year, and reportedly earned over P100 million in less than three weeks in local theaters. "Masaya [ako]," Chiu said, of reuniting with Lim on TV. "At gusto kong magpasalamat sa lahat ng mga fans, kasi sabi nga gabi-gabi sila nagpapa-trend ng kung anu-ano na lang... Hindi biro magpa-trend kasi kailangan ang dami-dami mong kausap para magpa-trend." Chiu was referring to topics related to her team-up with Lim trending locally on Twitter. Among others, "KimXi" (Kim and Xian), the actress shared, would frequently trend on the popular micro-blogging site. Asked if she feels pressured over her new series co-starring Lim, considering the successes of their previous projects, Chiu said, "Oo naman." "Lahat naman siguro ng tatanungin nating artista, may pressure talaga... So huwag mo munang iisipin 'yung pressure pag gumawa ka ng teleserye," she said.

Kim Chiu says she’s outgrown past issues

082913-Kim_Main.jpg

Emerging as the big winner of a reality show has put Kim Chiu’s every move under public scrutiny, including her toughest personal battles. Yet despite everything that she has gone through—a broken heart, the loss of a family member, and major and minor achievements, she continues to weather all the storms that have come her way. Seven years in showbiz has made her mature, according to Kim during the recently concluded press conference for her month-long special on Wansapanataym. "Siguro growth rin po dito sa show business kasi hindi naman po pwedeng forever kang teenybopper na mga 16, 17, 18. Tsaka siyempre dapat act your age na, siyempre 23 [na ako] so ganito na," explained the actress about the palpable change in her aura. But even though she may seem to have it all, Kim was honest enough to confess that there's still one thing that she wishes to achieve. "Siyempre lahat naman ng artista ang gusto naman nila ay magkaroon ng kahit isang acting award," admitted Kim whose latest feat is the box office hit Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo opposite Xian Lim. On her latest TV endeavor, Kim will be playing a helper who has a fairy godmother that will help her instill good values in children. The 23-year-old star who has headlined many dramatic soaps said that the fantasy genre and inspiring projects have always had a special place in her heart. Press people then asked Kim about a time in her life which she hopes to happen anew. The actress boldly replied with, "Ako hindi ako naniniwala sa sana maulit muli kasi tapos na yun eh. You've been through that journey and you have to move forward para maka-learn ka pa ng more lessons para maka-experience kapa ng ipaparamdam ng Diyos na kind of life that you will have." "Wag ka ng bumalik, diretso ka na," added Kim. When Jose Rizal's famous adage "Ang hindi lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan" was broached, Kim's rebuttal which earned her applause was "Iba naman po ang lumingon sa pinanggalingan sa babalikan ang isang bagay." In the end, Kim underscored that she has already moved on from the past issues that were being hurled her way. Among those issues she had to go through was her bitter split with Gerald Anderson and her falling out with former best friend Maja Salvador, who became the Fil-Am actor's current girlfriend. Kim's month-long magical fairytale Wansapanataym presents My Fairy Kasambahay will start airing on September 7 after Kapamilya Deal or No Deal.

Kim Chiu misses having a boyfriend

MANILA – Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu admitted she misses being in a romantic relationship. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Chiu said it makes her happy when a guy treats him in a special way. “Siyempre iba rin 'yung pakiramdam ng babae kapag nililigawan. Nakakahaba ng hair,” she said. The 23-year-old actress, however, said she does not want to rush into a new relationship because she wants her next boyfriend to be the right one for her. “Oo naman [namimiss ko na magka-boyfriend, pero] it takes time to know one, para tumagal 'yung relationship,” she said. Chiu’s last relationship was with actor Gerald Anderson. Their romance, however, ended in 2010 for reasons which were never disclosed. Last month, Chiu and her onscreen leading man Xian Lim admitted to host Kris Aquino that they are exclusively seeing each other. "Right now kasi it's not... Sinabi kasi namin, when people ask us, it's unfair to even put a label on it. It's more of nandito kami para sa isa't isa," Lim said. This prompted Aquino to ask: "Obviously, you're exclusive?" To this, Chiu replied: "Pwede na." Lim agreed, saying: "Oo." Meanwhile, Chiu clarified reports that Lim is allegedly prohibiting other guys from wooing her. “Ay hindi ko po alam 'yung bakod. Wala naman pong bakuran effect na nangyayari. Wala naman po ganun siguro,” she said. Chiu said she is just enjoying Lim’s company as they get to know each other more.

On Tuesday’s episode of “Kris TV,” Chiu brought host Kris Aquino to Patio Vera, a family-run restaurant in Marikina where Lim’s surprise birthday party was held. Chiu said she first went to Patio Vera for a shoot for Metro Magazine. “Nag-shoot ako dito ng ano… ng Metro Magazine. Tapos nakita ko ‘yung venue nila cozy, parang wala masyadong tao,” she said. “Maganda kung titignan mo ‘yung loob, ate (Kris).” “Mas maganda rito ‘pag gabi, kasi yellow ‘yung light niya,” she added. Chiu said she only invited around 12 guests to Lim’s surprise birthday bash, which included the actor’s mother and his close friends in Manila. The actress said she wanted the party to be very intimate. “Kasi parang ano, dati kasi nag-birthday din siya tapos parang ‘di niya friends ‘yung imbitado. Parang sabi niya, ‘birthday ko ba ‘to o birthday mo?’” she explained. “Last year… kasi marami kami n’on, ka-close ko lahat so kaming magbabarkada lahat.” Chiu said that while Lim enjoyed his birthday party last year, he was hoping to celebrate his special day only with his closest friends. “Parang happy naman siya pero sabi niya, ‘wala naman akong close dito, ‘di ba dapat ‘pag birthday, invited ‘yung mga close mo?’ So ngayon, mommy niya tapos ‘yung mga best friends niya [in-invite ko]. So, happy na siya,” she said. Dennis Caballes, one of the owners of Patio Vera, said Chiu booked a private room for Lim’s party, with the venue filled with royal blue balloons. Chiu’s surprise for Lim also included a selection of Spanish dishes and an audio-visual presentation featuring the actor, he added. “Not much info ah,” Chiu told Caballes, laughing. Why Kim Chiu is in tears over film's success

MANILA -- Kim Chiu couldn't hold her tears when she took the stage Thursday night during a thanksgiving celebration for the box-office draw of her debut flick with "love team" Xian Lim. The 23-year-old actress, in her speech before the cast and crew of "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?" and ABS-CBN executives, turned emotional as she thanked individuals involved in the film's success. "Iyong 'Thank you,' maraming napupuntahan 'yon, 'yung dalawang salitang 'yon. Habang buhay kong sasabihin 'yon sa mga taong nasa paligid ko. Grabe talaga, wait lang," she said as she tried to compose herself, laughing. "Basta sobra akong -- ano ba 'yan! -- sobra akong nagpapasalamat kasi angdami nang nangyari, pero... Basta sobra akong nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng taong nagtitiwala sa akin," she added. Taking on Sandy Explaining she was hesitant to take on her first-ever comedy role as the "ugly duckling" Sandy, the actress continued, "Kasi hindi ko talaga inisip na kaya ko magpatawa. E ba't ako umiiyak?" "Hindi ko talaga inatim na magpatawa ng tao. Kaya kong tumawa sa mga jokes ng mga tao, pero 'yung ako nagpapatawa sa big screen... kaya sobra akong thankful," she said. Chiu credited the film's director, Joyce Bernal, for guiding her in accomplishing a convincing portrayal of Sandy, whose hysterics after a break-up is seen as one of the movie's comedy highlights. "Basta sobra akong masaya, hindi niyo alam kung gaano ako kasaya. I'm so happy! Bata maraming salamat, and more power and more happiness and more laughter!" she said. 'Unexpected' Speaking with reporters shortly after the thanksgiving party, Chiu expressed disbelief in the box-office performance of "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?," which breached the P100 million mark in earnings less than three weeks since it opened in cinemas. "Hindi namin inaasahan na ganito siya tatanggapin ng mga tao, pero ginawa naman namin lahat ng dapat naming gawin para mapaganda 'yung pelikula tsaka 'yun, masaya kaming tinanggap siya ng mga tao," she said. She added: "Masaya ako syempre. Sino ba ang may ayaw no'n, na umabot ka sa gano'ng punto na mapatunayan mo 'yung sarili mo. So masaya ako and thankful sa lahat ng taong nanood, dahil kung hindi dahil sa kanila, hindi kami aabot dito." The comedy film, inspired by the Ramon Bautista humor and "self-help" book of the same title, is among the 20th anniversary film offerings of ABS-CBN's film arm Star Cinema.

Kim Chiu details incident with 'snubbed' fan

MANILA -- Actress Kim Chiu admitted that she was hurt when she was accused of being a snob to her fans. Appearing on "KrisTV" on Wednesday, Chiu related in detail the incident when she allegedly snubbed a fan at a supermarket in Taguig City. Tapos 'yung tita (sabi), 'Si Kim Chiu, you know her?' Tapos 'yung batang lalaki at babae, maliliit, tinutulak niya. 'It's Kim Chiu, take a picture with her.' Parang 'yung mga bata, 'ayaw ko, ayaw ko.' Hindi ba parang si Rain 'yung pamangkin ko, pipilitin na magpa-picture kahit di niya kilala, eh di wag na." "So yun ang sabi ko. 'Kayo na lang po.' Pinipilit niya, pinipilit 'yung bata. Tapos ako parang, 'Mamimili pa po kami. Magsasara na po. Ano po ang gagawin natin?' Tapos 'yung damit ng batang lalaki naluslos dito (sa kwelyo), lumuwag kasi hawak ng batang babae at ayaw niyang lumapit sa akin at hinihila niya 'yung kapatid niya. So sabi ni Ate Lakam (Chiu's sister) sa akin, 'Ate halika na, halika na.' Tapos nagpa-picture 'yung mommy at anak niyang girl. Tapos 'yung lalaki ayaw niya talaga. So nag-picture kami at umalis na kami. "Tapos nagkita kami sa counter, sa bayaran, at noong nasa counter kami lumapit 'yung tita at the baby girl kasi uulitin niya daw ('yung picture). Eh ayaw naman talaga ng batang babae, nawala na nga 'yung lalaki. Pinipilit pa din siya, parang 'halika picture ka it's Kim Chiu, it's Kim Chiu you saw her on TV it's Celine.' Tapos parang sobrang harsh nung sumulat. Akala niya one of Cebuanas ako di ba Cebuana happy happy, smiling face pero hindi daw sobrang sungit," Chiu said. In the end, Aquino advised Chiu to go to the supermarket in the morning as there are not too many shoppers at that time. "Tinuro sa akin kasi may friends ako na may-ari ng mall to go before lunch. Most of them open 10 in the morning. Nakakapag-supermarket ako kasi nagpupunta kami ng 10 or 10:30 in the morning. Tapos by 12 noon dapat tapos kasi doon na 'yung papasok na tao. Kahit sa mga tindihan kinakarir ko na ganoon kaming oras bibili para wala akong ma-offend at ako happy ako sa nagawa ko natapos. Kasi gets kita, I love supermarkets," Aquino told Chiu.

She particularly mentioned Sarah Geronimo, who urged her own fan base on Twiiter to watch Chiu’s movie. “Yeah, nag-tweet siya na panoorin 'yung movie. Natutuwa din ako kasi ang dami ring artista na nagpa-plug sa mga Twitter nila, tina-tag sa akin. Ayun, nakaka-touch. Sobra akong thankful. Sinasabihan nila 'yung mga fans nila. Masaya naman, masarap sa pakiramdam," she said. While she and Geronimo are not really close friends, Chiu said there has never been an issue between them and she is open to be more acquainted with the singer-actess.

Kim appeals: Let's not talk about Maja

MANILA – More than six months since she expressed regret over her “wasted” friendship with Maja Salvador, Kim Chiu still chooses to keep mum every time she is asked about her former best friend. In an interview with ABS-CBN News at the sidelines of the “Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo” press conference on Tuesday night, Chiu shrugged off questions about Salvador’s tweet allegedly defending her from bashers. “Let’s not talk about her,” Chiu briefly said. On June 25, just as Chiu was being criticized about her relationship with her late mother, Salvador tweeted: “You don't know her... You just know her name... #PleaseDon'tJudge #PleaseRESPECT.” While Salvador did not indicate who she was pertaining to, many netizens believed she was asking the public to respect Chiu, who was then mourning the loss of her mom. Insisting that she does not want to talk about their falling out, Chiu just smiled and said: “Masaya ako kasi thankful ako sa mga nandiyan for me. 'Yung totoong nandiyan for me.” Chui was referring to her family and her rumored boyfriend Xian Lim. “Pamilya ko, of course, lagi naman silang nandiyan, sila ang inspirasyon ko sa kung anuman ang nangyayari sa buhay ko. Hindi naman sila bumitaw sa akin. And si Xian siyempre,” she said. Chiu said her loved ones stood by her amid all the intrigues and they continuously help her in coping. Meanwhile, Lim said Chiu is truly fortunate to have so many good people around her. “Marami kami, hindi lang ako. Iyon nga ang sinasabi ko kay Kim. She’s really privileged na marami sila. 'Yung ibang tao kapag nangyari sa kanila iyon, siguro one or two people lang ang tutulong. Kay Kim ang dami. Naramdaman niya iyon,” he said.

Kim nervous about first film with Xian

MANILA, Philippines -- A week before her movie "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo" opens in theaters, actress Kim Chiu is already feeling nervous about her first big-screen project with actor Xian Lim. "Excited at the same time sobra kaming kinakabahan kasi ito 'yung first team up namin sa big screen. Sana marami ang manood at marami kaming mapasaya," Chiu told reporters on Tuesday night during the Star Cinema movie's press conference. In the movie, which is based from Ramon Bautista's book with the same title, Chiu plays Sandy, a woman who's ready to do everything for love. Asked if she can relate with her character, Chiu replied: "In a way, oo naman." "I-base ba natin sa totoong buhay? Ako ba si Sandy? Alter-ego ko ba si Sandy? Pero nakakatuwa, ang sarap ng feeling na i-portray 'yon at mag-represent ka sa lahat ng babaeng seryosong nagmamahal," Chiu said. I don’t care about their opinion as long as I’m happy, I’m blessed, I’m thankful and I’m contented,” she added. Asked if this strong attitude is what going through a lot of ordeals has done to her, she said: “Siguro. Life goes on. You can learn from your experiences. Doon lang naman umiikot iyon eh, sa tama or mali. You just have to accept kung anong nangyayari sa buhay mo.” Kim thanks Xian Meanwhile, Chiu said she is thankful to have actor Xian Lim always by her side even through the most difficult times. Just recently, Chiu threw a surprise birthday party for the actor as her way of thanking him for everything he has done. “Siguro it’s my way of saying thank you sa lahat ng efforts niya. Kasi sa lahat ng binigay niyang gifts, effort, time, wala akong binabalik sa kanya. Nakakahiya, ang kapal ng face ko. Maalaga siya. And funny siya,” she said. While they have been persistently linked to each other, Chiu maintained that there is nothing romantic going on between them -- at least for now. “Masaya lang ako kapag nandiyan si Xian, kapag kasama mo siya, tatawa ka lang nang tatawa. Sobra akong nagpapasalamat. I’m happy, grateful and contented sa kung anong meron ako ngayon,” she said. Chiu said she appreciates Lim’s sincerity and his ways of making her laugh after a hectic work day.
