Yeng gets bitten by acting bug after debut film

MANILA -- After finishing her debut movie "Shift," singer Yeng Constantino is hoping to be given more acting projects. "Sana po ay umpisa na ito ng bagong path in my career," Constantino said in an interview on Tuesday during the press conference for Cinema One Originals, where "Shift" is among this year's entries. Kung magkaganoon po mas willing na po ako this time do it," the "Chinito" singer added. "Shift" is one of the 10 films included in Cinema One Originals Currents, the indie film festival's P1-million budget category. Directed by Siege Ledesma, "Shift" tells the story of an idealistic, tomboyish slacker who is employed as a call center agent and mentored by a pragmatic, gay senior agent. Joining Constantino in the movie are Felix Roco, Alex Medina and Matt Valena. The singer said the biggest challenge for her in doing the movie is channeling various emotions. Challenging 'yon for me kasi masayahin ako," she said. So sa tingin ko konting practice pa," she added.

Will Bamboo record an album with Yeng?

MANILA - "The Voice of the Philippines" coach Bamboo Mañalac said he is open to the idea of recording an album with pop-rock singer Yeng Constantino. Mañalac is set to share the stage with Constantino in a show billed as "By Request" at the Araneta Coliseum on August 17. In an interview during a press conference for their upcoming concert, Mañalac said he would love to record an album with Constantino, but quickly added that it "has to come naturally." "Ako rin [gusto ko]. Why not? Yeah, I mean, I always say keep it organic, keep it natural. Kung may masulat siya, kung may masulat ako, and we say na 'o, bagay siya,' why not? It has to come naturally... medyo [dapat] hulog ng langit," he said. Constantino agreed, saying that their music will come "at the right time." "Mararamdaman 'yon. Tapos right timing, right song. Kung ako ang tatanungin, gusto ko 'yon," said Constantino, who is the first winner of the "Pinoy Dream Academy" reality singing contest. In their upcoming concert "By Request," Mañalac and Constantino will be performing songs suggested by their social media followers.

How Yeng-Bamboo concert materialized

MANILA – Singer Yeng Constantino revealed she never thought she would one day share the stage of the Araneta Coliseum with “The Voice of the Philippines” coach Bamboo Manalac. In an interview with entertainment website Push.com.ph, Constantino said Manalac is among her idols in the music industry. Kakantahin niya yun kung paano niya kakantahin ng live,” she said. “Sobrang galing niya. Gusto ko talaga pagkanta niya, ino-own niya talaga 'yung song. Talagang version ni Bamboo 'yun. Hindi ka ma-ko-confuse na sinong nag-cover niyan? Alam mo na siya,” she added. According to Constantino, the idea for them to stage a concert together came up after they rehearsed “Here Comes the Rain” for “ASAP 18.” The first “Pinoy Dream Academy” winner added she had to overcome her nerves to keep up with Manalac. As their concert nears, Constantino said she is slowly feeling the pressure about performing at the Big Dome. “Siguro may part ng heart ko nana-pe-pressure pero I just want to leave it sa management and promotion team. Kasi kung pati 'yun iisipin namin, ang dami na namin iniisip like 'yung line-up ng mga songs, 'yung pag-mo-monitor ng mga request ng mga tao sa Twitter and kung isama pa namin 'yun baka sumabog na 'yung mga puso namin sa kaba,” she explained. Constantino and Manalac’s concert titled “By Request” is set to be held on August 17. They will be performing songs suggested by their social media followers.

Yeng Constantino shares love story

MANILA -- When Yeng Constantino introduced her first boyfriend through an Instagram post last month, not a few were left wondering who he was. In her June 26 post on the popular image-sharing service (seen above), which went viral with over 10,000 "likes" and 500 comments, the 24-year-old singer only showed her posing for a picture with the man she only referred to as "love." Speaking with reporters at a press conference early this week, however, Constantino finally spoke at length about her new-found love, and shared details about how they became a couple last June 18. Constantino's first-ever boyfriend, Victor Asuncion, is a worship director at Victory Christian Fellowship in Greenhills, San Juan City. Before taking active part in the church, he was a member of a band. According to Constantino, she met Victor through a common friend last year, when they would hang out a number of times until becoming good friends themselves. The singer added, however, that there was a long period that followed when they wouldn't see each other. "Medyo may ganap na hindi nagkita nang matagal," the Kapamilya singer was quoted as saying by the entertainment news site Push. "And then when we saw each other again, parang, 'Ay. eto na 'yun.' Feeling ko eto na 'yun." Courtship Describing Asuncion's courtship style, Constantino said, "Nagpunta siya sa bahay, alam mo 'yung traditional, pero more of getting to know talaga." It didn't take too long before Asuncion won the approval of Constantino's parents. The singer said she was nonetheless warned by both her mom and dad about the "critical stage" of being in a new relationship. Asked what qualities of Asuncion she particularly found endearing, Constantino pointed to his being of service to others in faith, and his apparent awareness of his shortcomings as a partner. When he speaks about malasakit, like kapag nakakakita siya ng mga tao, 'yun lang gusto niya gawin. He really wants to serve God. 'Love language' Barely a month into their relationship, Constantino admitted that they are both still "studying" their own dynamic as a couple. She cited as an example their different communication styles. Sabihin nun, 'Sobrang namiss kaya kita. Kahit nagwo-work ako ikaw iniisip ko.' 'Eh, bakit 'di mo ako tinext?' 'Hindi ako ma-text.' 'Eh, gusto ko mag-text ka.' 'O sige, magte-text na ako.' Tapos 'yun na. Marunong na siya ngayon," she said. Constantino added that despite their difference in "love language," they still make an effort to express their feelings for each other. Tapos naglagay ako ng food and chocolates. Hindi ko nga alam, pero sobrang gusto ko lang gawin," she said. On 'cloud nine' Despite some adjustments in the early stages of their relationship, Constantino said she couldn't be happier to have Asuncion as her first boyfriend. Palagi [kaming naghahawak-kamay]. Sobrang iba talaga ang feeling. Mas lalong inspired ka to be just excellent in everything you do. Sobrang blessing siya sa akin," she said. Sharing that she is likewise Asuncion's first official relationship, Constantino said, "Sabi niya sa akin, madaming magandang babae pero—nakakakilig naman—parang umaangat daw ako. Hindi raw niya maintindihan kung bakit kapag nakikita niya ako iba talaga nararamdaman niya. Kasi siya din, eh. First girlfriend niya rin ako. Sobrang naghintay din siya. Sana siya na ang una't huli."

Yeng Constantino posts photo of boyfriend

MANILA – Singer Yeng Constantino took to the image-sharing site Instagram to express her love for her new boyfriend whom she called “Love.” Posting a picture of them on Wednesday, Constantino said it was only when she met her “Love” when she realized what love truly meant. The 24-year-old singer also thanked God, saying her “Love” is the best gift she has ever received. “I love you Love... peksman! Hahaha,” she said. In her earlier interviews, Constantino said she never had a boyfriend but she already experienced how to fall in love. Constantino had said that the only thing she’s looking for in a man is his fear of God. Constantino joined showbiz when she was only 18 when she won the reality talent search "Pinoy Dream Academy" in 2006. Her first hit, "Hawak Kamay," was composed during her stint on the show.

Yeng admits having cold relationship with mom

MANILA – Singer and songwriter Yeng Constantino admitted she once had a cold relationship with her mother, even harboring "hatred" against the latter. At one point, Constantino said even a showbiz reporter thought that her mother already passed away, since she rarely mentions the latter in her interviews. She said her cold treatment towards her mother lasted for some time, until a particular inspirational talk by a church pastor made her realize that her mother loves her. Niyakap ko lang siya and I said sorry, I'm really sorry, I'm sorry na nag-kulang ko. In the same interview, Constantino also shared her life before her rise as one of the country's most sought-after singer and songwriter, showing a picture of an artist who never gives up in the face of numerous rejections. Constantino said that before she became the Grand Star Dreamer in the defunct ABS-CBN reality singing show "Pinoy Dream Academy" in 2006, she had failed many times to get the attention of talent scouts in various singing competitions. She said she tried to audition for talent contests such as "Star in a Million" and "Star Circle Quest" but failed to capture the interests of the judges. Constantino recently received an honorary licentiate diploma from the Academy of Rock Singapore, and was named its ambassadress. She also recently released her latest album, "Metamorphosis."

Yeng Constantino gets emotional because of her recent achievements

Holy Week with the stars

Like most people, celebrities take time out for spiritual reflection and bonding with family and friends on Holy Week. While some of them have gone out of town or overseas, others preferred to have a ‘staycation’ in the comfort of their homes. Singer Rachelle Ann Go shared that it has been a family tradition to just stay home during Holy Week. So, this year, ganoon pa rin, sa bahay lang kami. The same holds true for Yeng Constantino, who doesn’t plan to go out of town this Holy Week. She said reflection is an “everyday” thing for her. Tsaka, yung Holy Week, yung reflection, it’s not just nangyayari kapag Holy Week, it should be everyday of your life.” While Rayver Cruz doesn’t have a definite plan yet, he is sure to spend the Holy Week with his family. “Nag-iisip pa kami ng family. Siguro out of town kasi mahilig kami doon ng family ko. kung hindi man matuloy, siguro bisita Iglesia,” he said. Meanwhile, new Kapuso talent Christian Bautista shared that he and girlfriend Carla Dunareanu are Hong Kong-bound. “Before everything else starts rolling down, mag-relax muna, find peace. Then, go na, diretso na sa work,” Christian said. Other stars also post photos of their holiday getaways through their Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Yeng Constantino has a new look, sound

Yeng Constantino has come a long way—music and style-wise—since bursting onto the scene in 2006. Watching her perform during her recent album launch, it’s quite hard to imagine that this sleek, red-haired performer onstage used to be the dowdy young lass inside the “Pinoy Dream Academy” house. While her music retained the pop-rock vibe of her past work, Yeng’s new songs “B.A.B.A.Y.,” “’Di Pa Huli,” “Hahanapin Kita,” “Josephine” and “Sandata” sound noticeably funkier with trippy synths and touches of electronica. New 10-track record These are just five of the nine songs Yeng composed for her new 10-track record aptly titled “Metamorphosis” (Star Records). After six years in the industry, Yeng said it’s about time she explored new things. And while admittedly daunted by experimenting with her music, the singer-songwriter acknowledged that there’s no other way for her to move forward than step into the unknown. “I took it as a challenge and as an adventure. I really wanted to impart something new to the listeners and not do the same things over and over again,” she told the Inquirer. “I’m really excited. I believe that if the artist is excited, the fans will feel the same way.” Yeng related that her reinvention of sorts was inspired by pop icon Madonna and rocker friend Raimund Marasigan, who also produced her album. “Madonna changes her image with every album she releases. I also admire Kuya Raimund, who isn’t afraid to go out of the box and come up with new sounds,” she said. She continued: “I don’t want to limit myself. I’ll go where my music takes me.” The 24-year-old musician is still uncertain on how to describe her new sound. Anyway, it’s more about enjoying the music than defining it, she pointed out.

Yeng Constantino receives honorary licentiate diploma from Rock School London

“Hinonor din sila for being excellent teachers teaching the kids. “Ako as a performer for Asia, ayun, binigyan ako ng Honorary Licentiate Diploma. “Tuwang-tuwa naman ako na nakita nila yun. "Di ko maintindihan, alam mo yung ginagawa mo. “Yung ginagawa mo, dahil mahal mo yung ginagawa mo, for them to appreciate it, kakaibang emosyon… kakaibang saya. “Sobrang overwhelmed, dalawang araw akong mulat.

PEPtalk. Yeng Constantino concludes issue about her sexuality: “Hindi po ako tomboy! Sobrang straight ako and very secured ako with who I am."

Demai: Hello, there and welcome to another episode of PEPtalk. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to PEPtalk, Ms. Yeng Constantino!" Yeng: "Thank you, thank you! It’s really an honor to be here dahil nung last time nga, nakita ko si Daniel [Padilla] so… ‘Hi, sa ‘yo Daniel.’" Demai: Paramdam agad, ha? So dahil dumadaan tayo diyan sa paramdam levels na ‘yan at dahil kakatapos lang ng Valentine’s Day, sisimulan ka namin with this question… Kamusta ang love life ni Yeng Constantino? LOVE LIFE. Ang sagot ng singer, “Okay naman siya. Sa pagkakaalam ko, wala pa ring pagbabago. “Pero siyempre, alam mo yun, I am 24 years old. Pabirong hirit ni Yeng, “Come on, guys!” Dagdag pa niya, “Kasi parang mas naging open lang ako magpaligaw unlike before. Siguro, masyado pa akong bata, feeling ko, ang dami ko pang dapat gawin and ang laki ng pangarap ko for OPM. “Na hindi ko muna yun pina-prioritize this year parang mas naging open lang ako na siguro it’s about time na maging open na ako.” Demai: Pero ‘tong past six or seven years kasi, parang walang talagang na-link sa ’yo na matagal unlike before nung nakasama mo sa PDA, si Rj [Jimenez]. Wala bang umakyat ng ligaw sa ’yo during that time?
