Toni happy to work with John Lloyd again

MANILA – Television host and actress Toni Gonzaga never thought she will be given another chance to work with John Lloyd Cruz, who is one of the most sought-after actors of his generation. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Gonzaga said she is excited to establish their on-screen chemistry anew – this time on the small screen. “Sabi ko nga, akala ko hindi ko na siya makakatambal ulit. Akala ko first and last na namin yung ‘Amnesia Girl.’ First time naming mag-TV so sana everyone will get to be a part of it. Sana they will enjoy,” she said. Gonzaga and Cruz will star in a sitcom titled "Home Sweetie Home," which is said to be like a modern-day version of the comedy series "John En Marsha." “It’s the newest Kapamilya sitcom so sana tangkilikin ng ating mga kapamilya… [It’s about] young lovers na eventually will get married and will have a family. Sa Philippines, usually kapag pinakasalan mo ang isa, pinakasalan mo ang buong pamilya. It’s a riot family comedy,” she said. In the first teaser for "Home Sweetie Home" released online, Cruz and Gonzaga are seen alone in a room apparently preparing to get intimate -- until they get disturbed by family members. Portraying the apparent parents of Gonzaga's character are Sandy Andolong and Rico J. Puno. Child star Clarence Delgado and teen actress Miles Ocampo, meanwhile, play her siblings. Life after ‘The Buzz’ Meanwhile, Gonzaga made it clear that she has no ill feelings after leaving “The Buzz” weeks ago. Stressing that she has no regrets hosting the entertainment show for three years, Gonzaga said: “I think 'The Buzz' is already an institution. I also miss doing that show. I’ve learned so much for the past three years that I’ve hosted the show. Hindi ko maipagpapalit ang natutunan ko doon.” Gonzaga said she understands the management’s decision to reformat the show, adding that she trusts that the network knows what’s best for the show -- and her career. “Ganun talaga, kailangan ng rotation and kailangan ng improvement ng lahat ng programa. As an employee of ABS-CBN, trabaho lang naman, wala talagang personalan,” she said. "The Buzz" was reformatted into "Buzz ng Bayan," which is now hosted by Boy Abunda, Carmina Villaroel and Janice de Belen.

John Lloyd to do 'pyramid scam' film, says Erik Matti

MANILA -- After his acclaimed crime thriller, "On The Job," film director Erik Matti is set to work with box office king John Lloyd Cruz for a movie that tackles pyramid scams. Matti made the revelation in an interview on the ANC program "Headstart" on Friday. "My next project is [about] pyramid scam. I think there's... I don't know [if] I could say it. It's a husband and wife story, the wife is the victim," he said of his next project with ABS-CBN's movie arm, Star Cinema. "I'm working with John Lloyd Cruz on this one," he added. Cruz's last movie project is "It Takes a Man and a Woman," the third in his series of films with singer Sarah Geronimo. The movie, which had an extended run early this year, is now the second highest-grossing Filipino film of all time with around P375 million in ticket sales. Matti's "On the Job" bagged the Jury's Choice prize at the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest held recently in South Korea. Its lead star, Joel Torre, was named Best Actor. While the Philippines has a long way to go when it comes to big action movies, Matti said the country is "rich" when it comes to story materials for films. "We can't afford all those big action movies like what Hollywood does. But our crime stories in the Philippines are just rich, and I think picking up from there is good [for movies]," he said. As he gears up for his project with Cruz, Matti said he is happy to be working with Star Cinema once again. "I'm happy with what we are doing. No one bankrolled 'OTJ' except for Star Cinema," he said.

Why John Lloyd hasn't done indie films

MANILA - Several big stars, from Judy Ann Santos to Maja Salvador, have ventured into indie films. Is Box Office King John Lloyd Cruz planning to follow suit? The actor, whose last movie is "It Takes a Man and a Woman" with Sarah Geronimo, said he is open to doing indie films, but not now. Cruz said he wants to prioritize his projects with his mother studio, Star Cinema, which he credits for his successful career as a movie actor. "Alam mo 'yung indie naman, I am very open [to that], pero dapat nating i-prioritize 'yung mother studio ko which is Star Cinema, hindi ba?" he told reporters during a recent press event. "Kung may gagawin man ako, kasi hindi ba [ang] indie it's a venue for you to be more experimental? Kung may gagawin akong ganoon, I have to consult my mother studio para respeto lang." Cruz added: "For how many years, inalagaan nila 'yung film career ko, and ang ganda-ganda ng nagawa sa akin ng career ko sa pelikula. They brought me to where I am now. After many years sa business, parang hindi naman biro na hanggang ngayon ay pinapanood ang pelikula mo. So with due respect, talagang pina-prioritize ko ang decision ng Star Cinema." Veteran actress and Batangas governor Vilma Santos, Cruz' co-star in the hit film "In My Life," just finished working on her debut indie film "Ekstra" with other big stars like Eula Valdez, Richard Yap, Pilar Pilapil, Marian Rivera, Piolo Pascual, Cherie Gil and Cherry Pie Picache. Last June, actress Dawn Zulueta said she is set to work with Cruz, Richard Gomez and Jessy Mendiola in a Star Cinema project.

After one year together, Lloydie, Angelica now 'stronger'

MANILA -- Actor John Lloyd Cruz only has good words to say about his one-year relationship with actress Angelica Panganiban. While he would rather keep details about his relationship with Panganiban private, Cruz happily said that he and the "Apoy Sa Dagat" star are now "stronger as a team." "Sa totoo lang, ang hirap talagang pag-usapan ng relationship kasi it's supposed to be personal. Pero all I can say after a year, lahat ng pagsasama, lahat ng pinagdaanan namin, talagang naging stronger kami as a team," he said in an interview on Tuesday. "Mas kilala na namin ang isa't isa ngayon. Mas nag-e-enjoy kami, mas may freedom, mas may tiwala. Every day is a new discovery. Parang lahat maganda. I wouldn't say na it's perfect, pero lahat maganda. Masayang masaya lang kami," he added. Cruz said he and Panganiban spent time with close friends in Bangkok, Thailand for their first anniversary. "Masayang masaya kami, kasama din namin 'yung mga tao na close sa amin. Napakasaya, punung-puno ng kabusugan," he said. The actor, dubbed the country's "Box Office King," said he gave Panganiban a gift, but refused to give further details. "Binigyan ko siya ng gift. Hindi ko na sasabihin, ano lang 'yon, simple lang. Basta, ayaw ko na magsalita," he said. Cruz, 30, admitted that he and Panganiban have yet to talk about getting married. But he is hopeful that his current relationship would last "forever." "Lahat naman [umaasa ng ganoon]. Kahit noong high school ako, akala ko 'yung girlfriend ko, akala ko 'yun ang mapapangasawa ko. Kasi kapag pumasok ka sa isang commitment, you think long-term, minsan forever. So hindi siya nawawala sa picture," he said. "Wala akong target date or target age for that matter [when it comes to settling down]. I guess when it happens, it happens," he added. Asked if he sees Panganiban as "wife material," Cruz replied: "Ganoon din, parang sabi ko nga it's hard not to see your partner [as your wife]. Siyempre you think of long-term in life, so kasama na yon doon."

John Lloyd Cruz denies breakup rumors with Angelica Panganiban: 'Sobra talagang walang problema'

John Lloyd Cruz finally put a stop to persistent rumors that he and Angelica Panganiban had already broken up. For the past two months or so, John Lloyd had been romantically linked to non-showbiz girls, fuelling speculations about whether or not his relationship with Angelica was on the rocks. But the talented actor reiterated that everything is going smoothly between them. "Mula noon hanggang ngayon, masayang-masaya kami. Siguro, kaya rin siguro [may rumors] para bigyan kulay ng iba, parang, ‘Sige, batuhin natin sila. Gawan natin sila ng istorya na hindi sila masaya.’ Siguro, ganun talaga ang mundo. But minsan lang kasi nag-aalala ‘yong ibang tao. I always get a text na, ‘Okay lang ba kayo?’ Nagtataka ako minsan, kapag may nakita ako, ‘Okay ka lang?’ Sabi ko, ‘Bakit?’ Right now, my life has never been better. Kahit naman in the past months, wala namang isyu talaga," he said in an interview with selected entertainment websites during his relaunch as Jack 'N Jill Magic Flakes celebrity endorser held at Xin Tian Di, Crowne Plaza last Friday afternoon, July 6. John Lloyd admitted that he sometimes feels offended by how other entertainment reporters easily jump to conclusions, when in fact they don't really know what's going on. "Yung sa amin ni Angelica na pilit ginagawan ng isyu, nakakasawa na nga. You know, minsan kasi hindi na kami ang gumagawa. Minsan media na ang gumagawa. Minsan, nagtataka ka kung saan nanggagaling. Wala naman talaga kaming problema pero kapag nakikita kami, iniinterbyu kami… It’s quite offensive ha. Parang people can assume na may pinagdadaanan ka. Parang, ‘Paano n’yo nalaman?’ Parang, ‘Ano’ng alam niyo?’ Kaya siya minsan nakaka-offend kasi parang it’s in a way of putting words into our mouths." It frustrates him because misleading reports can sometimes be blown out of proportion and affect their family, friends and even the fans. So, that’s the weight on us, on our shoulders." John Lloyd has always been very private about his love life and he seldom sees the need to speak up every time a controversy about him arises. But truth be told, he maintained that there's no need to worry about him and Angelica. "Sobra talagang walang problema. Sobrang we get along, pamilya namin walang problema. I mean, walang rason talaga [para magka-isyu].

Since Magdayao’s break-up with Cruz, the actress has been romantically linked to a number of Kapamilya actors including Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo. The actress, however, said she is still keeping her options open as far as her love life is concerned. “Naa-appreciate ko ang suitors pero right now, ayaw ko na muna. Pero kung dadating ang tao na iyon, hindi naman natin mapipigilan. Kapag dumating naman siya, I know it is His right time,” she said. Asked of her ideal man, she said: “Ang dami naman nating ideal traits, relationship pero in reality hindi mo naman masasabi. I’d like to think na ang hihingin ko lang ay pure love. 'Yun ang pinakaimportante.”

John Lloyd, Sarah wrote wedding vows in film

MANILA, Philippines -- The wedding vows of the characters of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo in their latest film together were written by both Kapamilya stars themselves, according to the writer behind the box-office hit. "It Takes a Man and a Woman" writer Carmi Raymundo said Cruz and Geronimo were nervous about the idea of putting down in words the vows of their characters Miggy and Laida. "Direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina) and I told Sarah and Lloydie that we want them to write Miggy and Laida’s wedding vows. Gusto ko din kasi marinig from them kung ano sa tingin nila yung learnings ng characters nila,” said Raymundo, who was also the headwriter of the first two installments of the romantic-comedy series, "A Very Special Love" (2008) and "You Changed My Life" (2009). She added: "Both were nervous kung kaya ba nila magsulat but they were very excited. When they showed me what they wrote, I knew right away that they wrote from the hearts of their characters. They were so sincere, ang ganda!" In "It Takes a Man and a Woman," which is still showing in theaters nationwide, Miggy and Laida are seen struggling to co-exist in the same company after breaking up over a character portrayed by actress Isabelle Daza. Now with more experience and a "fiercer" attitude after spending years in the United States, the returning Laida even challenges Miggy, her former employer, in his business decisions. Photo courtesy of the Instagram page of Star Cinema's Mico del Rosario Although the set-up later proves challenging for the former couple to withstand, Laida learns to forgive Miggy, paving the way for a rekindled relationship that leads them down the aisle. "Their vows made the ending of Laida and Miggy’s love story a thousand times more special because they spoke their own words. As a writer, 'yun na ang gift ko sa kanila: to let them speak their own words. In the end, parang naging buhay na talaga sila Miggy at Laida," Raymundo said. Admittedly, Cruz said he found the task challenging. "Medyo mahirap din siya, because you write from the heart, e. When I was writing the vow, angtagal, parang ilang days," he said. "The whole thought, the intention of words, I'm proud to say na kami ni Sarah 'yung gumawa," the actor said in an interview aired on "Showbiz Inside Report" aired Saturday. With over P345 million in total earnings as of Wednesday, "It Takes a Man and a Woman" is now the second highest-grossing local film of all time, after the 2012 comedy film "Sisterakas."

John Lloyd: Sarah made me want to sin

MANILA – Sarah Geronimo played down the statement of her leading man John Lloyd Cruz when he said she made him "want to sin" the first time they worked together for a movie. In his interview with “Inside The Cinema” last week, Cruz told host Boy Abunda that he was caught by the singer’s charm and magic during their first big screen partnership on “A Very Special Love.” “Doon ako nadali ni Sarah, ng magic niya, ng charm. Iba siya, iba talaga. In the movie, she made me want to sin. Ang bigat noon, pero kinaya ko,” Cruz said. But Geronimo tried to de-emphasize Cruz's telling statement in her live interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday. “Si Lloydie, siya 'yung taong mabilis matuwa, ma-endear sa isang tao. Sa tingin ko iyon lang iyon,” she said. Regardless of this, Geronimo thanked Cruz for all the achievements that they have shared in their series of romantic-comedy movies. “Thank you, thank you so much at nagkasama tayo ulit at na-restore din ang ating magandang pagkakaibigan,” she said. Cruz, for his part, told Geronimo that he will always just be there for the singer-actress even as they await their next project together. “Sars, thank you for the opportunity, for the friendship. Sana it doesn’t end here. Sana hindi siya matapos and from my end, alam mo naman na I’ll always be here. You’re very special to me. Maraming, maraming salamat na ako ito at ikaw iyan. Thank you,” he said. While many are hopeful that there will be fourth movie for their characters as Miggy and Laida, Cruz is positive that he and Geronimo will again share the big screen in the future. “Definitely magkakatrabaho pa kami. This is not the end for me and Sarah. Malabo iyon, imposible iyon. I can’t wait to see the next material for me and Sarah,” he said.

John Lloyd: I really had a crush on Toni Gonzaga

MANILA – John Lloyd Cruz admitted he once had a crush on Toni Gonzaga, with whom he had a chance to work with in a Star Cinema romantic-comedy flick and a Kapamilya television series. In an interview with Boy Abunda on “Inside the Cinema,” Cruz recalled how awkward he felt when he and Gonzaga were taping for the series “Maging Sino Ka Man” back in 2008. “Kasi may second book ang ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ and si Toni was part of that. When we were doing that, hindi ko kayang tignan si Toni. Tunaw ako, as in talagang babae ako, parang hindi ako makatingin. Crush ko talaga si Toni Gonzaga dati,” he said. Cruz said it was when they did “My Amnesia Girl” two years later that he got over his shyness towards the actress. “Buti na lang nakaget-over na ako, kaya ko na siyang tignan. I loved [My Amnesia Girl]. I love Toni. Doon nagsimula ang pick-up lines eh,” he said. Cruz said he really admires Gonzaga because she can deliver comedic lines and touch the heart at the same time. Cruz's team-up with Gonzaga in "My Amnesia Girl" was among his most-watched movies. It earned P144.8 million in its entire theatrical run and it also gave him and Gonzaga the title “Box Office King and Queen for 2010” by SM Cinema in 2010.

Sarah-John Lloyd series to have part 4?

MANILA, Philippines -- Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz are open to doing a fourth installment in their series of romantic-comedy films directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo Shortly before a special screening of "It Takes a Man and a Woman" hosted by actor-director Rowell Santiago on Monday, Cruz and Geronimo addressed the possibility of doing yet another movie as their characters Miggy and Laida. According to the 29-year-old actor, neither Viva Films nor Star Cinema, the film production outfits behind the film series, is certain as to whether a fourth film will eventually be made. "It Takes a Man and a Woman" has often been called the third and final installment in the series. "Personally, hindi namin alam. Wala pong nakakaalam. I'm sure at this point kahit si Boss Vic (del Rosario, Viva Entertainment founder), si Tita Malou (Santos, Star Cinema head), hindi nila alam kung susunod pa for Laida and Miggy," Cruz told ABS-CBN News. Cruz, however, said he is only willing to do a sequel to "It Takes a Man and a Woman" if its script surpasses the quality of the third movie. "If we can come up with a better script or better material than 'It Takes a Man and a Woman,' then tingnan natin. Kung hindi, I'd rather end it this way," the actor said. Geronimo, on the other hand, said that should a fourth film get the green-light, she hopes that it will explore the trials of newly-weds in the first years of married life. "Ako, maganda muna 'yung makita ng mga tao 'yung buhay mag-asawa nila, 'yung adjustments, paano nila malalagpasan," she said, when asked if she is willing to have "babies" in a possible sequel. "It Takes a Man and a Woman," which has so far earned P220 million after only nine days in theaters nationwide, has already surpassed the total earnings of the first film in the series "A Very Special Love," which made P179.3 million when it was released in 2008. The third film is also on track to beat the record of the second installment "You Changed My Life," which earned P225.2 million during its theatrical run in 2009. Of the massive success of "It Takes a Man and a Woman," Geronimo said, "Sobrang overwhelming 'yung suporta na binibigay sa amin. Overflowing yung joy na nararamdaman namin ngayon." She added: "Sobrang grabe talaga. Unexpected 'yung ganitong kalakas na pagtanggap nila, so maraming salamat po. Hindi niyo po alam kung gaano kasaya kami ngayon, sobra sobra na po."

How old is John Lloyd Cruz?

Actor on craft: 'Nakakabaliw siya' MANILA, Philippines -- Unlike a number of celebrities who prefer putting on a veil of youth, John Lloyd Cruz does not mind revealing his real age. "I'm 29. Wala po akong screen age, wala po akong screen name," the Kapamilya actor said Friday in an interview on radio dzMM. The "It Takes a Man and a Woman" star also counted in years his experience as an actor, and how his longevity in the business has helped him learn to deal with public interest in his personal life. "Hindi ko alam kung paano ko nagawa na in the past 15, 16 years na nasa business tayo... Hindi ko naman tinatago relasyon ko, naging open naman ako noon pa, mula noong kami pa ni Ciara (Sotto) at bago palang 'yung team-up namin ni Bea (Alonzo)," he said. "Magmula noon, naging open naman ako eh. So basically ang sinasabi ko lang is na swerte ako na tinatanggap tayo ng mga tao sa ginagawa natin bilang artista," he said. However, Cruz, who is currently in a relationship with actress Angelica Panganiban, explained that he still hesitates to talk at length about private matters.

Angelica, John Lloyd enjoy 'best summer' in Palawan

MANILA – After saying that they don’t get to spend so much time together because of their hectic schedules, it seems that celebrity couple John Lloyd Cruz and Angelica Panganiban finally had the chance to be with each other. In her official Instagram account, Panganiban shared several photos of her and Cruz while they were on a vacation at the Ariara Private Island in Calamian, Palawan during the Holy Week break. First, Panganiban posted a solo picture of Cruz with the caption “The guy in pink,,, is still... The guy in pink.. D na sya nakapag palit since then :)” Cruz was also wearing pink in the memorable "Perfect Sunday" photo in August last year when Panganiban first hinted that there is something romantic going on between her and the actor. The actress then posted a collage of pictures showing Cruz with her family. “Hanapin nyo kami!!!!! This is life!! Wala pa man!!” she said. She then posted a series of photos of her and Cruz where she expressed her love for him. “Sabi nila,,, its lonely at the top... pero kung ikaw naman ang kasama ko, bongga na din :) #AriaraPrivateIsland your the best lab!!!” she said. Panganiban also said she’s having the “best summer ever,” as she is spending it with the love of her life. “Doing sit ups love? Hehehe.. you always give me memories and more more wisdom, lalo na pag malalim na ang hugot natin :) best summer ever! Sa maraming aspeto :)” Panganiban said. “Been working out for a couple of days :) hiking everyday!!! Ang payat payat na ni love ko!!!! Holidays with family.. #AriaraPrivateIsland” she added. Rumors that a romance is blossoming between Cruz and Panganiban started after the two returned to the Philippines from Vietnam in April 2012 to shoot their scenes for the Star Magic movie "24/7 in Love." But it was only last August 12 when Panganiban posted a collage photo on Instagram where she went public for the first time in hinting that there is something happening between her and Cruz. Panganiban and Cruz's first public appearance together was at the Star Magic Ball last September 1, where they were even seen leaving the event hand in hand. However, it was only in October when Cruz publicly announced that he is indeed in a relationship with Panganiban although officially became a couple in July last year. Ariara island, known for its 600-meter white sand beach and uninterrupted views of the sea, ranked first in the Top 100 holiday destinations list of the British edition of Vogue magazine last year. Ariara, dubbed as a "private paradise," has only eight spacious villas and beach cottages. All furniture used here are made by Filipino carpenters and craftsmen using indigenous materials.
