'Matanglawin,' 'Failon Ngayon' recognized in London



MANILA -- Two ABS-CBN current affairs programs, as well as Kapamilya news anchor Ted Failon, were recognized by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) in the United Kingdom on Thursday (Manila time). Now on its ninth year, the 2013 AIB awards, according to its official website, celebrated "the best in radio, TV and transmedia – programmes, technology and talent" at a gala dinner at LSO St. Luke's in London. "Matanglawin," the educational show hosted by Kim Atienza, was cited as "highly commended" in the Children's Factual Programme or Series category for overcoming "daunting logistical challenges to produce a highly informative, skilfully shot and edited show." The program airs Sunday mornings on ABS-CBN. The investigative program "Failon Ngayon," meanwhile, was short-listed in the Domestic Current Affairs Documentary category for its "Island of Boracay 2" episode. The show's host and "TV Patrol" anchor Ted Failon was also nominated for the International TV Personality award. According to its official website, the AIB's chosen awardees "demonstrate the best in engaging, powerful, moving and innovative reporting and investigation from entries which are submitted by countries in every continent of the world."
