'Banana Split' team in Bohol during quake

MANILA – Comedian Jayson Gainza, who is currently in Tagbilaran City in Bohol, shared his first-hand experience as the 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the province early Tuesday. In an interview with “Mornings@ANC,” Gainza related that the cast and crew of the ABS-CBN late night gag “Banana Split” show are in Tagbilaran for a scheduled taping. Gainza said their team just had breakfast at a hotel in the city when the earthquake happened. “Okay naman na po kami. Nag-stand by na kami sa pinakamataas ng Tagbilaran. Nung una po kumakain kami sa may resort tapos nung pumasok na kami sa bus, parang inaalog 'yung bus. Akala namin may nagbibiro lang. Tapos lumakas ng lumakas, parang inuuga na parang umaandar,” he said. Gainza said they just realized that something was happening when they heard screaming people outside the bus. “Nakita po namin sa labas may mga tao na nagsisigawan at nakadapa na 'yung iba. Nung palabas na kami ng bus, kailangan naming magtipon-tipon,” he said. Gainza also caught on video how part of the resort where they had breakfast collapsed. “Yung gumuguho, 'yun ang parte ng building na kinainan namin. Mabuti nakalabas kami. May namatay po sa loob. 'Yung harapan niya nag-collapse na and may bitak-bitak na,” he said. Gainza said their team is temporarily on standby in front of the Tagbilaran City Hall where they await the chopper that will bring them to the city before finally heading to Manila.
