MANILA – Young actor Diego Loyzaga denied that he became depressed at one point because his showbiz career has winded down.
“Hindi po ako na-depress. Tumahimik lang po talaga ako. Hindi maiiwasan na nawala ako sa spotlight. Hindi naman depressed,” he told ABS-CBN News in an interview.
Loyzaga’s last project with the Kapamilya network was the youth-oriented show “Growing Up,” which ended in 2012.
Before that, he got his big break when he landed a role in the remake of the series “Mara Clara” headlined by Julia Montes and Kathryn Bernardo.
The actor said the real reason he did not become visible in showbiz in the past year was because he had to finish high school.
“Pagtapos ng high school, nag-graduate ako tapos I went to college. Pumasa ako sa La Salle,” he shared.
At that point, Loyzaga said he was torn whether he should finish his studies first or return to showbiz and continue his passion.
“Sabi ng mom ko sa akin, ‘Alam mo anak mag-isip ka muna. Bigyan kita ng time, mag-isip ka muna.’ So nag-Australia ako. Nag-stay ako doon for two months, nag-isip ako. Tapos sabi ko, ‘Mom mas okay siguro if magtrabaho na lang ako. At least kapag bumalik ako sa showbiz, may maipapakita ako, maayos na ang Tagalog ko,’” he related.
A year since he last appeared on TV, Loyzaga said he is fortunate that ABS-CBN welcomed him back with open arms. Loyzaga will soon be working with Julia Barretto and Kiko Diaz-Estrada for the upcoming series “Mira Bella.”
“Natutuwa ako na binigyan ako ng opportunity na makabalik. Mas lalo akong natutuwa kasi [I’m going to work with Julia]. Happy, excited, kaba -- lahat ng emotions naghahalo kasi bumalik ulit, nasa harap ng camera ulit,” he said.
Loyzaga vowed to do his best to deserve the second chance given to him.
“Sigurado itong time na to, mas lalo akong may maipapakita,” he said.
