And while the evening outing wasn't exactly a date night, the two were definitely together and hanging out in the same small clique. A source tells E! News that R.Pattz and Penn left around the same time after mingling with guests by the bar area and the back room. A second insider says that the Brit was quite the spectacle at the intimate gathering. "Girls were all flirting with him," explained the eyewitness. Both left separately, according to the insider, but were with the same group of approximately four people throughout the night. Of course, it would be far too obvious if the duo packed on the PDA during the party, so we're told that they remained friendly and not touchy-feely whatsoever. When the Penn rumors first surfaced in late September, insiders told us that it would be premature to label them as anything more than friends. But things could have definitely changed since then. The Twilight star paid a visit to Children's Hospital Los Angeles last Friday, surprising a number of unsuspecting patients in the facility's Teen Lounge and then sticking around to chat and do arts and crafts with some of the younger kids. "Robert was so nervous about meeting the kids—he didn't want to let them down—which is a testament to how humble he is," Child Life specialist Ana Vega said, via the hospital's We Treat Kids Better blog. "He was incredibly gracious and kind. He will probably never fully understand what a huge lift he gave to these kids today, and how it will positively impact them over the long term." And Rob probably had no reason to be nervous—he surely made the kids' (and hospital staffers'!) day just by showing up. "We couldn't help laughing and smiling when one of the patients was so starstruck she that couldn't speak," said Lyndsay Hutchison, senior public information officer for CHLA. "You could tell it meant the world to her—she was tearing up and smiling ear to ear as we were leaving." Another little girl, who sounds like a star-in-the-making, "teased him relentlessly and begged him to do an American accent," Hutschison added. "They were instant friends." The actor, who's been shooting Maps to the Stars, got busy painting picture frames and then signed each and every one of them. He also, of course, stuck around to take pics with the kids.
