Maricar not pregnant but Richard wants twins

MANILA – Kapamilya crooner Richard Poon denied reports that his wife, actress Maricar Reyes, is already pregnant. However, he admitted that he would like to have a baby with Reyes 18 months from now. "Hindi totoo 'yun na buntis daw si M.R. Pero kung mabuntis siya, okay lang, ready naman kami. Ang plano namin is to have a baby maybe a year and a half from now,” he told entertainment website Pep.ph. Asked whether he wants a boy or a girl as his first child, Poon said he actually likes to have twins. “Ako both, lalaki at babae sana. Kapag sinasabi ko nga, 'Hon, puwede bang twins?' sasabihin niya, 'Huwag, ayaw ko niyan, hindi ko kaya!' Joke lang naman 'yun pero sana may isang boy, may isang girl. Kasi kami ganun, may isang lalaki at isang babae,” he said. However, Poon said he was told by some of their friends that they should enjoy their first year as a couple first before they finally decide to have children. "Advice 'yun ng mga married women sa akin. 'Don’t let Maricar mawala ang atensiyon sa kanya, huwag agad sa bata. Give her at least a year and a half para ma-enjoy niya na siya 'yung center ng marriage mo. Siya 'yung inaalagaan, inaasikaso,'" he said. Almost three months since they tied the knot, Poon said he is still discovering a lot of things about his wife. “Hanggang ngayon, may nadi-discover pa rin akong bago sa kanya. Sa pagkain, ayaw niya ng itlog. Napakasimple, di ba? Ako, mahilig ako sa mga egg, ayaw niya. Ayaw niya ng okra, gustung-gusto ko ng okra. So 'yun pa lang, ang dami ko nang nalalaman sa kanya,” he said. Poon also said he is absolutely enjoying his married life with Reyes. "Ako, I try my best lang na maglagay ng tamang pundasyon kasi alam mo naman ang pag-aasawa, pareho kayong different na tao. Minsan magkakatampuhan kayo, hindi magkaintindihan, pero you’re trying to work it out," he said.

Maricar, Richard don't want to have kids yet

MANILA – Newly weds Maricar Reyes and Richard Poon do not want to have children just yet. In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News’ Korina Sanchez, Reyes said they just want to enjoy each other’s company first before starting a family. “We want to know each other na kami na lang dalawa muna. Ideally, we’d like a year together at least,” she said. Poon and Reyes first met each other back in 2009 when the singer’s manager invited the actress to be part of Poon’s music video. Since then, the two began dating until they finally got engaged in 2012. The celebrity couple tied knot via a Christian wedding that was held at the Belleview Hotel in Alabang lasy Sunday. The event was only attended by the couple’s close family and friends. According to Poon, it was his idea to just keep the wedding small gathering. “We designed it that way. We talked to a lot of couples and they said, ‘You either go big or small. Huwag kang middle. We chose the small group,” he said. Saying he has attended and performed in a lot of weddings, Poon said: “Sometimes I look at the couple and alam ko 'yung ilang nila na maybe a hundred of those guests are business partners of their relatives pero alam kong hindi sila masyadong kumportable kasi hindi nila masyado kilala.” Poon and Reyes said they wanted the occasion to be solemn and intimate. Asked what for her the most memorable part of wedding is, Reyes said: “Ang dami. Gusto ko 'yung pagdating ko sa altar tapos he shook my parents hands tapos nag-kiss siya sa mom and dad ko tapos nag-join na kami sa altar.” She added: “Doon lang naging real. During preparations kasi, may fittings, may make up, I felt na para lang akong nagtratrabaho. Yung brain ko minsan iniisip niya na work lang. It really dawned on me lang talaga nung binigay na ako sa altar.” Poon, on the other hand, said his favorite moment was when Reyes emerged and was revealed in the ceremony. “The music was right. Somebody whispered at my back, best man ko yata, sabi ‘Chard parang anghel na pumapasok.’ I was looking at her walking down the aisle, sobrang ganda niya,” he said. Considering himself “very lucky,” Poon vowed he will forever take care of Reyes, as expressed in the lyrics of the song during their first dance. “First dance namin was ‘I’ll Take Care of You.’ It means a lot sa kanya kasi siyempre all girls naman are looking for that one guy who not just loves them but will stay and take care of them. Because women are naturally magaling mag-alaga ng lalaki so naghahanap din kayo ng mag-aalaga,” he said.

Maricar Reyes, Richard Poon eye wedding this year

MANILA, Philippines -- Singer Richard Poon and actress Maricar Reyes are eyeing to tie the knot in an "exclusive" wedding some time this year. Richard Poon and Maricar Reyes. File photo At the sidelines of the launch of watch brand Tomato Time at Glorietta in Makati City on Wednesday, Poon said preparations are now underway for his wedding with Reyes. The 31-year-old "ASAP" mainstay confirmed his engagement to the 27-year-old actress late last month. "I think naman she deserves it. I think any woman deserves a commitment, lalo na sa panahon ngayon na everything is trial and error lang and there's a back door," he said. Poon said he and Reyes prefer to have a private wedding with a limited number of guests. "Gusto namin sana ganoon, e, kaunti lang ang mga guest... kasi personal belief ko lang, I think pareho kami, na dapat na sa wedding lang mostly are the people na were there for you nung wala ka pa, wala kang success, wala kang pera. I think those are the people who matter," he said. The singer said they had originally planned to hold the ceremony by the beach, but eventually decided against it for practical reasons. "Initially, we were talking, mahilig siya sa beach, so ako, sige try natin, pero habang marami kaming kinakausap ngayon, parang pahirap nang pahirap i-set-up 'yung beach kasi maraming kailangan," he said. "For us medyo hindi [madali], because relatives are flying in -- sa akin [mula] Hong Kong, Taiwan, sa kanya naman, [mula] Cagayan de Oro, United States -- so para bang... baka Manila, somewhere near lang, hindi 'yung malayuang beach," he added. Poon also shared he personally prefers to have black and white for the wedding's color motif, and that he is now "researching" for a theme song. Asked if they have already set a date for the wedding, Poon said, "Sabi ko nga, kung pwedeng bukas e, pero suppliers need so much time, e." "Pero sana this year," he added, "kasi parang ang tagal pa kung next year pa." Poon and Reyes started dating in 2010 and officially became a couple in July 2012.

Richard Poon recalls fighting with parents over music

MANILA, Philippines -- Big band crooner Richard Poon admitted that pursuing a career in music was not easy for him. On ANC's Headstart, Poon told Karen Davila that as a young man, he ran away from home to pursue his singing career. "A lot of people don't know I ran away from home. I cooked for six years in our small family restaurant. Then I got, alam mo na I'm the only son and I'm working for my dad's business. As a young arrogant graduate, I was like 'kailangan mo ng computer, inventory sa food.' We were fighting all the time. One day after six years I said, since pinagbabawal konti na huwag ka nang kumanta, wala namang job security diyan, which is true. I took it not well, and I was like maybe, I just go my way so I ran away from home. We had a bad argument that time," Poon said. Poon is from an upper middle class family and his parents are both Chinese. Poon said his parents are already separated and his mother is now in Taiwan. The singer said he was stayed away from his home for about a decade. But he managed to work out his differences with his father. "When I left I made a vow to him, in business huwag nating pag-usapan kasi doon tayo nag-aaway, all our differences, all our different opinions and stuff. Sabi ko but I will take you out every week. Noong una ang hirap, the first date was ilangan. I told my dad, I will ever stop this relationship. Yung business natin huwag nating pag-usapan para hindi tayo mag-away but the personal relationship I would like to keep this and invest on it so I kept on dating him every week," he said. Now, Poon is just proud to say that his father is his number one fan. "But ngayon my dad is my like my number one. Every show he's like 'hey do you have a ticket for me.' It came to a point when we got comfortable one time I hugged him or hugged him back. Ngayon it's so cute, every time I'd leave my dad he have this gesture of his body na parang 'are you gonna hug me before you go.' When I see that like 'wow.' So dating him non-stop, we will just eat and we will talk about anything," Poon said. Poon admitted it was not easy growing up with a broken family. However, he hopes that his past will help him become a better man. "Every child who goes through a broken family has a certain valid fears na, will I commit this thing? Will the pattern continue? Have I unlearned my patterns? My character flaws? Ang hirap noon because sometimes it comes out," he said. Poon, who is currently promoting his first pop album "Legends", is also busy preparing for his upcoming wedding with Maricar Reyes.

Richard Poon plans dream wedding with Maricar

MANILA, Philippines - Singer Richard Poon revealed that he and fiancée Maricar Reyes are already planning their dream wedding. "All I can say is we are planning right now, talking about it, meeting some people. People have been recommending stuff, I'm asking some married (people) like how was it preparing, did you have any glitches on the day, so yung mga ganoon, talking, planning," Poon said on ANC's Headstart, Friday. Poon said he first met Reyes in September 2009, but it was in 2010 when they began going out. "I got to know her September 2009. There was already a good friendship there, pero may push and pull. And in about a year, I kind of laid low for a while and then came back 2010. We saw each other in Star Magic Ball. Usap ulit then the friendship rekindled there and we started all over again," Poon said. Now that they are about to settle down, Poon talked about the past controversy involving Reyes. Reyes was dragged in a sex video scandal with Hayden Kho in 2009. "You know, what she went through ang hirap ding pag-usapan but you know I just admire the way, I heard somebody say na if it happen to her, sa tao na yon parang they would have like disappear from the earth or go to other country. She took a different road a very graceful, quite road it was very graceful and I think many people admire her for that. They tell me about it 'hey you take care of that girl' and I'm like 'why?' 'because we like her and I'm like 'ok, if you like her'. I think that's the quality she has, grace under pressure," Poon said. On Monday, Poon has confirmed that he and Reyes are engaged. In a previous interview, Poon said that Reyes is the first woman in showbiz that he has pursued. He also said that Reyes is the "answer to his prayers of finding the right one." "Most of the things that I'm looking for ay nasa kanya... A lot of our differences complement (each other), so that's nice," he was quoted as saying.

Richard Poon, Maricar Reyes are engaged

MANILA, Philippines -- It's confirmed: actress Maricar Reyes is engaged to singer Richard Poon. Poon made the confirmation to members of the media on Monday during the launch of his first pop album titled "Legends." "Oo [engaged na]," the singer said, without giving further details about their planned wedding. "Kapag may detalye 'yan, probably dahan-dahan ay ibibigay namin," he added. "Sabi ko nga kung pwede, bukas na [kami ikasal]. Pero pinaplano talaga. I'm sure, if anyone is getting, you know... seriously, if you are planning for a wedding, ang daming detalyeng pumasok, kailangan ko munang magplano for a while." Poon said Reyes is set to talk about their engagement in an exclusive interview. He praised the actress for being a "very simple" bride-to-be. "I like her because she's very simple, 'di siya 'bilhan mo 'ko noon, bilhan mo ako niyan.' She's a very private person. Simpleng joy lang, [sasabihin niya] 'gusto ko makasama ka, usap tayo nang maayos.' [Gusto lang niya] maganda 'yung conversation," Poon said of Reyes. According to the singer, Reyes already met his parents. "Maganda, magaan [ang pakiramdam]. Amazingly, my dad, medyo mahirap i-please [pero] gustong gusto niya si Mars (Reyes) so I'm happy. Kapag nag-uusap ang mga 'yan ay maluwang, magaan," he said. Visibly happy that he and Reyes are set to tie the knot, Poon then recalled the day he first saw the actress. "Noong unang kita ko pa lang sa kanya, sa 'Betty La Fea,' ay crush ko siya. Pero noong nakilala ko siya, may character siya, grace under pressure. I think that speaks a lot... She's gone through a lot. I just like how her character handled it. Importante sa akin 'yon for the long term," he said. "Alam mo, sa totoo lang, a lot of us can be offended of many things. Kaya lang, ako mismo ay sablay din. So who am I to judge na I cannot accept a certain thing or another thing kung ako mismo ay sablay ako?" the singer said when asked if he has accepted Reyes' controversial past. "Ang dami kong shortcomings and character flaws. So, I'm not in the position to judge anyone, kahit na-offend ako ng kahit sino," he added. In a previous interview, Poon said that Reyes is the first woman in showbiz that he has pursued. He also said that Reyes is the "answer to his prayers of finding the right one." "Most of the things that I'm looking for ay nasa kanya....Sa kanya, a lot of our differences complement, so that's nice," he was quoted as saying. It was in 2010 when Poon admitted that he is going out with Reyes.
