MANILA – Veteran actress Vilma Santos insisted that she is open to working with rival Nora Aunor in a movie and is just waiting for the script for the proposed project.
“Kung mabibigyan kami ng magandang script, I don’t think magiging problema yun,” she told entertainment website Pep.ph in an interview.
There have been reports that director Brillante Mendoza, who made "Thy Womb" with Aunor, wants to do a movie with the two award-winning actresses along with actor Coco Martin. Santos said she heard about the project but is still waiting to read the script.
“Pinuntahan ako ni Direk Brillante (Mendoza), binanggit niya sa akin iyan. But the thing is isa lang naman ang sinabi ko, ‘Direk, walang problema. Pero I need the script.' Pero hanggang ngayon, wala namang script,” she said.
Santos said if they are going to work together again, one of their requirements would be a good script.
“Sa edad namin ngayon, we’re not getting any younger, we need a good script. Sa tinagal-tagal namin sa industriya, palagay ko hindi naman dapat mapahiya pa kaming dalawa,” she said.
Santos, who has been dubbed "Star for All Seasons," said it would be an honor for her to work with Aunor again since they have already starred in several movies together in the past.
“Hindi naman kami first time magsama ni kumare ko, ni Ate Guy. Nakaapat na yata kaming pelikula together since we were younger. Ang huli namin yata ay yung T-Bird At Ako [1982]. So hindi imposible,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Batangas governor appealed to fans to spare her and Aunor from intrigues, comparing her first independent film “Ekstra” with Aunor’s “Thy Womb.”
“Huwag na nating gawan ng isyu. Huwag n’yo na kaming intrigahin ni Nora. Ang mahalaga ay kung ano ang magagawa namin para sa ikauunlad ng indie,” she said.
Santos revealed she even hesitated to deliver a line in her movie where she mentioned Aunor’s name because fans might put malice to it.
“Sinabi ko nga kay Direk [Jeffrey Jeturian], ‘Direk, iintrigahin n’yo kami.’ Ang sabi ni Direk, ‘Hindi, nasa script iyan.’ Sabi ni Direk, ‘Sagot kita,’” she said.
According to Santos, she just wants to promote the Filipino movie industry and competing against Aunor is not among her concerns.
