MANILA, Philippines -- Is controversial actress Claudine Barretto returning to ABS-CBN?
That was what her mother Inday Barretto was implying when she defended Claudine against sister, socialite-actress Gretchen Barretto.
In her morning show "KrisTV," Kris Aquino gave her thoughts on the latest rift between the Barretto sisters, as well as Mrs. Barretto's decision to disown Gretchen.
"Ang isa pang kinagulat ko, 'Did she tell you that or did you make it up again to block her entry to an ABS-CBN project?' So there was a possibility that Claudine will come back here. Sa statement ito ni Mommy Inday,'" Aquino told guest co-host John Lapus.
"Baka naman full circle din at babalik talaga si Clau dito. Tama naman talaga, one of the most talented dramatic actresses talaga si Claudine," Aquino added.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Barretto questioned Gretchen's alleged claim that Claudine supposedly called herself the "only Teleserye Princess of ABS-CBN ...until eternity."
"Did she tell you that or did you make it up again to block her entry to an ABS-CBN project? First of all, Claudine was not a Teleserye Princess. She was ABS-CBN Teleserye Queen during her time, just like you were ST Queen during yours," Mrs. Barretto said in her statement to Philippine Star's Ricky Lo.
"You told Claudine that she has no more career to go back to. Bakit, si Malou Santos ka ba, si Vic del Rosario ka ba? Ipadadampot -- for what? (Planted or framed up.) There are bashers -- 10, 15 or more, when one is popular — and still you would still like to accuse your sister as the culprit!" Mrs. Barretto added.
Sought for comment on Claudine's possible return to the Kapamilya network, ABS-CBN corporate communications head Bong Osorio said, "No word on that."
Last year, according to Star Magic head Mariole Alberto, Claudine tried to reach out when she called Star Magic chairman emeritus Johnny Manahan on his birthday but Manahan refused to speak to her.
In the interview, Alberto admitted that the rift between Manahan and Claudine "has never been fully healed."
The rift started in 2010 a year after Barretto left ABS-CBN to move to GMA-7 when Barretto accused Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban of spreading rumors that she was having an affair.
Barretto threatened to sue Panganiban but Mahanan told the "Apoy sa Dagat" star to keep her silence and did all the speaking for her.
