Philstar.Award-winning Filipino film director Mario O'hara died due to acute leukemia on Tuesday morning. He was 68.
The director, who was also a screenwriter and film producer, passed away in San Juan de Dios hospital in Pasay City.
O'Hara had worked with another award-winning Filipino film director Lino Brocka in critically-acclaimed films "Insiang" and "Tinimbang ka Ngunit Kulang."
O'Hara was the director of Babae sa Breakwater.
He worked with actress Nora Aunor in 2011 for the mini-series Sa Ngalan ng Ina for TV5.
The name Mario O'Hara has been trending in micro-blogging website Twitter with several artists and writers expressing their sadness over the passing of the director.
The National Commission on Culture and the Arts said it "joins the nation in mourning the passing of Mario O'Hara, actor, director, writer, a giant of Philippine theater and film."
