Zac Efron Plays Doctor, Smokes Cigarette in Parkland: Watch His Deleted Scene Now!

Zac Efron, Parklane

Zac Efron plays it cool in a deleted scene from the JFK assassination film Parkland. And only E! News has an exclusive look at the cut footage. Efron plays Dr. Jim Carrico, the real-life resident at Parkland Hospital in Dallas who was the first to treat Pres. Kennedy after Lee Harvey Oswald shot him. In the deleted scene, Efron wakes up from a nap at the hospital. "So on the menu today, we've got three routine evals and a special x-ray," he explains to a fellow doctor while smoking a cigarette. The special x-ray is for a blood clot in the lungs. A coin toss between the two doctors sends Dr. Carrico to the trauma room. Parkland (out on DVD on Nov. 5) centers on Dallas during the three days surrounding the assassination. "This day in history has never been examined this closely," Efron said during an interview on the set of the movie. "You've never had an inside like this. You're never been this close to probably the biggest American tragedy…I think we're making a real cool movie. So hopefully one to be watched for generations and to celebrate the man and the day and the heroes." The movie, directed by former journalist Peter Landesman, premiered at the Toronto Interntational Film Festival in early September. "The three days are really shrouded in so much mystery and controversy with conspiracy theories," Efron told E! News at the premiere. "Growing up, I didn't know what was fact or fiction. But the simple truths of what transpired that we know for a fact are all in this movie." Parkland was Efron's first movie in theaters after news broke that the actor had gone through rehab earlier this year. His next movie That Awkward Moment, a raunchy buddy flick costarring Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, is set to hit theaters in January.
