Bangs Garcia gets first title role in indie film

MANILA – While she has been absent from TV screens for quite a while, actress Bangs Garcia has her hands full doing independent films. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Monday, Garcia said she just finished shooting her fifth independent film, "Lauriana." “This is my fifth indie but first title role. Different siya because it’s my most daring character that I have ever portrayed and by far most mature also. Marami akong ginawa dito na hindi ko pa nagawa sa ibang films kasi ito very extreme, and based on a true story pa,” she said. Asked what she meant by “most daring,” the actress said: “I can’t get into details. Sa love scenes, binigay ko lang ng hinigi ni direk. I went as far as I can. Nag-step up na ako acting-wise.” Garcia said the movie’s plot revolves around an ambitious domestic woman who falls in love with a soldier thinking he could help her improve her life only to become a victim of domestic violence. “This film could be an advocacy for women’s rights. 'Yung bata na kasama namin, he portrays a very important character also kasi maraming aral na mapupulot sa film naming,” she said. Aside from “Lauriana,” which will be shown in SM Theaters nationwide starting September 11, Garcia said she also has another upcoming independent film with Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca. Asked why she’s more into independent movies lately, Garcia said: “I don’t know, marami lang talagang nag-offer lately and I think it’s a good way to improve my acting kasi mas maganda na nahahasa ako sa craft ko.” She added: “For love also, kasi when you say indie, hindi din ganoon kalaki ang budget. Pero in terms of acting, mas nahahasa ka.”
