Apl.de.ap explains choice on 'Voice PH'

MANILA – “The Voice of the Philippines” coach apl.de.ap took to the microblogging site Twitter to explain the decision he made during the most recent eliminations in the reality singing competition. During the Sunday episode of “The Voice,” apl.de.ap chose between Bangkok-based band singer Janice Javier and student Jessica Reynoso. Javier showed off her powerful vocals, taking on Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools,” while Reynoso chose the OPM hit “Ikaw” by Regine Velasquez. Following their respective performances, apl.de.ap gave Javier a high score of 65, leaving only 35 for Reynoso. In his personal account on Tuesday, apl.de.ap said he just really felt that Javier performed better that night. “I know a lot of people are really disappointed about my decision on Sunday. But I really felt that Janice had a better night,” he tweeted. Despite this, apl.de.ap said he remains one of the biggest fans of eliminated contestant Reynoso. “Jessica and I share something very special -- we're both Amerasians. Losing her this weekend was like losing my sister. I am her biggest fan,” the Black Eyed Peas member added. A contestant’s fate in the competition is determined by the combined scores of each coach and the votes from the viewers during the show’s commercial break. While apl.de.ap gave Javier a score of 65 and only 35 for Reynoso, the viewers clearly showed that they favored Reynoso over the Bangkok-based band singer. For the text and online votes, Reynoso garnered a wide margin, giving her 60.22% of the vote, compared to only 39.98% to Javier. But in the end, Javier won the contest with a combined score of 104.19. “The Voice of the Philippines” is now down to eight finalists on after four more contestants were eliminated during the hit TV show’s fourth live show. They are: 1. Klarisse de Guzman (Team Sarah) 2. Morissette Amon (Team Sarah) 3. Radha (Team Lea) 4. Mitoy Yonting (Team Lea) 5. Myke Perez (Team Bamboo) 6. Paolo Onesa (Team Bamboo) 7. Janice Javier (Team apl) 8. Thor Dulay (Team apl) “The Voice of the Philippines” airs every Saturday and Sunday on ABS-CBN.
