MANILA, -- Comicbook artist and film director Carlo J. Caparas said he has already posted bail for the four warrants of arrest issued against for tax evasion.
Four cases of non-filing of value-added tax (VAT) were lodged against Caparas in the Quezon City Court of Tax Appeals in the four years (2007-2010) when he reportedly failed to declare his payment of taxes.
In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News on Friday, Caparas said he was not given any notice of the warrants and he only learned of it after the media asked him about the warrants.
Caparas said he has nothing to fear from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) since earlier tax evasion cases filed against him had already been dismissed.
He added that the contracts he had signed for projects indicated he was not to shoulder the tax obligations.
The BIR earlier said that they are likely to file more cases against Caparas for failing to meet tax requirements.
Caparas, however, maintained that he was not aware of other BIR requirements. He added that the BIR should make an effort to make the public more aware of tax obligations and related procedures.
