The 41-year-old actor will also be joining co-hosts Janice de Belen and Ogie Diaz in the 1st anniversary episode of the ABS-CBN entertainment talk show on Saturday.
Legaspi will sit in for comedian-host Joey Marquez, who has temporarily left the program as he pursues a congressional seat representing the second district of Parañaque in the May 13 polls.
"Unexpected talaga siya, hindi ko siya inaasahan," Legaspi said of co-hosting "SIR" with Villaroel.
The real-life couple formerly co-hosted a morning talk show that aired on GMA-7 from 2011 to 2012.
"Nabanggit sa akin si Carmina one day na parang interested ang 'SIR' na parang ako muna ang uupo sa upuan ni Manong Joey dahil nangangampanya siya. At the time, sabi ko parang hindi ata mangyayari 'yun dahil bihira ako sa Channel 2," he said.
Legaspi was also one of the co-hosts of a showbiz-oriented talk show aired on TV5 until 2012.
Shortly after his first sit-down interview with actress Maja Salvador and her mother as a co-host of "SIR," Legaspi said Friday that he intends to contribute to the program using his own "style of interviewing celebrities."
The format of "SIR" centers on weekly "inside reports" by each of its co-hosts, where they sit down for an in-depth interview with celebrities on their life, career, and current intrigues they are involved in.
The co-hosts then proceed to do a live round-table discussion after a report airs.
"[Ang paraan ko ay] i-make sure that I'm a friend and not an enemy para mag-open up sila," Legaspi said.
"In that way, both parties are happy. 'Yung show ng 'SIR' happy dahil mayroon silang nahuhugot doon sa celebrity. At the same time, 'yung celebrity naman magiging happy dahil nailalabas naman nila 'yung saloobin nila," he said.
Tips from wife
Asked on whether he has gotten tips from Villaroel on co-hosting the program, Legaspi said, "Huwag lang daw ako mag-blind item sabi niya."
"Kasi sabi ko meron akong pang-blind item. Sabi niya, 'Hon, 'yung show namin hindi pang-blind item!'
"'So 'yun lang 'yung kinakatakot niya sa akin nang live, baka raw mag-blind item ako. Meron akong mga alam, pero huwag na lang," he said, laughing.
Explaining his "dream interview" as an entertainment talk show host, Legaspi said he only hopes that his interviews become an effective venue to address and clarify intrigues to arrive at the "truth."
"Gusto ko 'yung may mga issues. I like to dig down there, malaman natin ang mga katotohanan," Legaspi said.
"Kasi ako po, ang rules ko po sa showbiz, pag totoo, let's talk about it, pag hindi totoo, i-stop natin. Doon na na nagiging masama," he said.
He added: "Pero if there's an issue na kailangan i-clarify, I think na dapat pag-usapan 'yan para hindi nagkakaroon ng kanya-kanyang opinyon."
