MANILA, Philippines -- Family, friends and fans took to social media on Wednesday to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of rapper Francis Magalona.
"Thank you everyone for remembering FrancisM today," the late rapper's wife Pia Magalona said on her official Twitter account.
"Today marks the 4th death anniversary of my father, Manila's King of Rap, Francis Magalona. All hail the king." his daughter, actress Maxene Magalona, said.
"To the Master Rapper who has inspired a generation of movers via his music & poetry, you'll always be remembered. All hail, Francis Magalona!" host Tim Yap said.
Netizens also recalled Magalona, who died in 2009 after a year of battling leukemia. He was 44 at the time of his death.
"No one can beat the one and only Master Rapper Francis Magalona! Your songs and memories still lives on! Three-stars and a sun rules!!," Twitter user @erzzzie said.
"4 yrs may have passed since he left us. But his music, his legacy, & his impact will continue to live on. We miss you, Sir Francis Magalona," said another Twitter user @mikkeymari.
Launched as a teen actor in the 1980s, Magalona is the son of celebrity couple Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran.
Although he started as an actor in movies such as "Bagets 2," he eventually became more famous for his music, notably his hit rap song "Mga Kababayan" from the album "Yo!" released in 1990.
His other hits included "Ito ang Gusto Ko," "Meron Akong Ano," "Mga Praning" and "Kaleidoscope World."
