/ PSY Opens Up About Alcohol Use: "If I'm Happy, I'm Drinking, If I'm Sad, I'm Drinking"

The world may know PSY as the extremely upbeat Korean rapper with the catchy tunes and dance moves, but this overnight celebrity has some surprising stories to tell. During an interview with the U.K.'s Sunday Times, Psy revealed that alcohol has become his right-hand man. "He drinks all day and all night. Korean vodka is his 'best friend' and his 'vice partner,'" according to the article. The story continued, "He'll also drink 'whisky, vodka, tequila, whatever,' he sighs. 'If I'm happy, I'm drinking, if I'm sad, I'm drinking. If it's raining, I'm drinking, if it's sunny I'm drinking. If it's hot, I'm drinking, if it's cold, I'm drinking.'" Psy also told the publication that the only time he isn't drinking is when he's "hungover," and he says he's hungover "a lot." Along with the drinking, the rap sensation spoke about his childhood and his "father, his 'desperate' need for attention and his time in jail." The interview claims that PSY's father "carried on hitting him even as an adult, until he wrote a song in 2006 about his father's 'loneliness' and the 'huge barrier between us,' and he heard from his mother that his father had decided he was going to make more of an effort. 'I thought, wow, the power of music,' he says." In 2001, Psy was arrested for possession. "I was 23, in my first year as artist. I went to jail for 25, 26 days. "Spending that kind of period [in jail] is not good, especially as a member of my family," he says. "But as an artist, the more experience, the better the creation. I'm a very positive person. So if shit happens, I think maybe this happens because a huge amount of happiness is coming to me." PSY quickly became a YouTube sensation after his debut video "Gangnam Style" went viral, ultimately fetching a record-breaking 1 billion views. His follow-up hit, "Gentleman," also showed that the rapper was not a one-hit wonder by holding the day-of debut record with 18.5 million hits, and was well over 200 million views less than a week after its release.

PSY's "Gentleman" Continues to Break YouTube Records

PSY's definitely doing something right. Recently, the South Korean rapper beat a world record when his video for "Gentleman" surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in less than a week, and now, less than a week after that happened he's breaking yet another record. His latest viral video was viewed 38 million times on April 14, according to YouTube's trends manager Kevin Allocca, which means he beat the single-day record of 30 million set by the KONY 2012 short film. Right now, "Gentleman," which also holds the day-of debut record with 18.5 million hits, is well over 200 million views. The only record left to beat is the most-viewed video of all time on YouTube, currently held by none other than PSY's original single "Gangnam Style" with over 1.5 billion views. Do you think "Gentleman" will become bigger than "Gangnam Style"? Sound off in the comments!

Psy's 'Gentleman' video smashes YouTube records

SEOUL - "Gangnam Style" star Psy's new music video had received more than 50 million views on YouTube by Monday, re-writing the video-sharing site's records for single-day hits. The dance video to "Gentleman", the South Korean singer's long-awaited follow up to "Gangnam Style, was only posted on YouTube at 9:00 pm (1200 GMT) on Saturday. In the first 24 hours, it racked up around 20 million hits, destroying the previous record for single-day views of 8.0 million, set by Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" video in May 2012. Now that record looks set to be stretched again, with the view count about 40 hours after release standing at 51 million. "51million views in 40hours!! My God~!!!" the 35-year-old star exclaimed on his Twitter account. The video shows Psy, wearing his signature sunglasses, dancing at various locations in and around Seoul including a high-end clothing store, restaurant, swimming pool and a library. The storyline features the singer teasing and playing practical jokes on women, such as pulling their chairs away as they are about to sit or untying a woman's bikini top at a swimming pool, before meeting his match. It was the video of "Gangnam Style", and in particular Psy's signature horse-riding dance, that pushed him to global stardom last year after it was posted on YouTube and turned into a viral sensation. A satire on the luxury lifestyle of Seoul's upscale Gangnam district, it has become the most-watched YouTube video of all time, registering more than 1.5 billion views since it debuted last July. "Gentleman" was ranked in the top 10 songs on iTunes stores in a number of countries Monday, including France, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark and Sweden. It also topped the chart in Finland. Critical reactions to the song were mixed but the video -- showing the quirky singer's signature self-mocking humour as well as the new hip-swivelling dance -- left many fans satisfied. "The song isn't all that great but let's face it. The video is actually hilarious," wrote one Youtube commentator. "I just love the fact that neither he nor the dancers are taking themselves too serious, but seriously enough to pelvic sway with perfect synchronization," wrote another.
