MANILA -- A tragic death paved the way for a happy ending for the characters of Julia Montes and Enrique Gil at the conclusion of "Muling Buksan ang Puso."
In the drama series' final episode aired Friday, Sarah (Montes) and Francis (Gil) are seen getting married in the presence of their respective families, who, after feuding for decades, have finally reconciled.
Leonel (Enchong Dee), who died after a car accident, remains a presence in his loved ones' lives. His heart, it is revealed, was given to Francis to save his life from his worsening condition.
"I will forever be grateful to him. He lives inside of me, he lives in me, so we can both love you, Sarah, forever," Francis is heard saying in the closing scenes.
A Primetime Bida offering directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo and Nuel Naval, "Muling Buksan ang Puso" aired for three months.
It also starred veterans Susan Roces, Pilar Pilapil, Dante Rivero, alongside Cherie Gil, Agot Isidro, Jestoni Alarcon, Daniel Fernando, Christopher de Leon, Dominic Ochoa, Malou Crisologo, Jane Oineza, Matt Evans and Pooh.
Replacing "Muling Buksan ang Puso" in its timeslot starting Monday, October 7, is the ABS-CBN remake of the Mexican series "Maria Mercedes" with Jessy Mendiola as the title character.
