Vice Ganda explains illness

MANILA -- Amid his "sick leave" from his daily noontime show, Vice Ganda made an appearance Friday night at an awarding ceremony where he was named Comedian of the Year. The 37-year-old "It's Showtime" host claimed his trophy at the 2013 Yahoo! OMG Awards at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, following a procedure early this week in relation to his vocal cord's condition. Speaking with reporters at the sidelines of the event, Vice Ganda said, "Ito 'yung araw na in-allow ako ng doktor na magsalita ulit, pero with care dapat. Hindi ko pwede i-stress 'yung boses ko." Due to polyps on his vocal cords, Vice Ganda has been advised against speaking by his doctors. "Noong bumalik kasi ako sa doktor noong isang araw, nakita nila si digital sotroscopy na lumiit na 'yung mga polyps, pero nandoon pa rin," he said. In order to fully recover from the condition, the comedian added that he was advised to take steroids and to resume having total voice rest. "'Pag hindi siya naayos ng steroids, doon ko kailangan mag-undergo ng surgery," he said. Aside from his daily hosting duties on "It's Showtime" and his Sunday talk show "Gandang Gabi Vice," the Kapamilya star is busy with preparations for his upcoming comedy movie, "Boy, Girl, Bakla, Tomboy." Directed by Wenn Deramas ("Sisterakas," "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin") and co-starring Maricel Soriano, the film is an entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.
