Lionsgate and the IMAX Corporation also announced today that they would be working together once more to bring out the sequel in the IMAX format.
Catching Fire is already hotly anticipated, after the opening film in the trilogy grossed over £250 million worldwide following its March release.
'We are thrilled to continue the productive partnership we enjoyed with IMAX on the first instalment of The Hunger Games, said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger.
'Our partnership on the first Hunger Games film was a resounding success, and we look forward to building on that experience with an expanded IMAX relationship on Catching Fire.
'IMAX delivers a unique and memorable experience that is the perfect way to celebrate this special moviegoing event.'
Catching Fire will be based on the second novel in Suzanne Collins' best-selling sci-fi series, with Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reprising their roles of Gale, Katniss and Peeta.
