Spotted: Angel Locsin orienting Red Cross volunteers

MANILA -- Angel Locsin is playing a key role in the relief efforts of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for the victims of super typhoon "Yolanda" (international name Haiyan), as photos of her taking part in various charitable activities circulated online Wednesday. The 28-year-old actress, who is known to be an active volunteer of PRC, is said to be one of the team leaders of the organization's relief operations. A photo of Locsin packing goods for typhoon victims, along with a number of volunteers, was re-posted by the PRC on its official Twitter page. Its caption said the actress led the group in the activity. On a Facebook fan page dedicated to Locsin, a photo showing the actress interacting with another set of PRC volunteers was posted Wednesday. According to its accompanying caption, Locsin was orienting them on taking part in the relief efforts. As of writing, the photo already had over 42,000 likes, over 390 shares, and over 700 comments. Various photos of Locsin wearing a red PRC vest, as posted by other volunteers and by the organization itself, also made the rounds online. In one photo, the actress is credited for referring an online retail company to PRC for its donations. PRC on its Twitter page Wednesday also thanked Locsin for tapping a fastfood chain she endorses to sponsor the dinner of the re-packing volunteers. Car up for auction Locsin earlier made headlines when she was identified to be the owner of a vintage car up for auction to benefit ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya, which is also heading a massive relief drive. According to Sagip Kapamilya program director Tina Monzon-Palma, the actress had asked for the donation to be kept secret. However, a number of local automotive websites were able to track Locsin as the owner of the car, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, and reported it. Monzon-Palma noted that "vintage car aficionados" are apparently able to identify which ones own a certain vehicle within their vicinity. The price of the vintage car model, based on listings on various online buy-and-sell websites, ranges from $65,000 to $89,000 (roughly P2.8 million to P3.7 million). Speaking with "Kris TV" on Tuesday, Monzon-Palma then confirmed that it was Locsin who brought the vintage car to Sagip Kapamilya last Sunday to have it auctioned. "Sinabi niya na, 'Para sa inyo 'yan, sa Sagip Kapamilya.'" As of Wednesday morning, the death toll due to "Yolanda" has already reached 2,275, according to the national disaster management council. An estimated 11.3 million have been affected, with 673,000 left homeless, since "Yolanda" -- said to be one of the most powerful typhoons recorded -- battered parts of Visayas on Friday.
